Denis Villeneuve’s Enemy, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, will compete as part of the official selection of the 61st San Sebastian Film Festival (Sep 20-28).

At a press conference in Madrid today, festival director José Luis Rebordinos revealed the Spanish titles that will compete for the Golden Shell. Spanish films set to feature in other sections of the festival were also revealed.

Villeneuve’s Enemy stars Gyllenhaal as a man who seeks out his exact look-alike after spotting him in a film. The co-production between Canada (Rhombus Media) and Spain (Roxbury Pics) is Villeneuve’s follow-up to the Oscar-nominated Incendies.

David Trueba (Salamina Soldiers) will introduce Vivir es Facil (Living Is Easy). Set in 1966, Javier Cámara (Talk to Her) stars as an English teacher who sets off across Spain to find John Lennon, who was taking a break from Beatlemania to feature in Richard Lester film How I Won The War.

MADRID -- Take My Eyes, Iciar Bollain's dramatic look at domestic violence, led the pack Wednesday as Spain's Film Academy announced nominations for the XVIII Goya Awards, snatching noms in nine of the 28 categories. Eyes will compete for best film against Isabel Coixet's My Life Without Me, Antonio Mercero's The 4th Floor and David Trueba's Soldiers of Salamina, Spain's candidate for the foreign-language Oscar. Soldiers, a Lola Films/Fernando Trueba co-production, Life, produced by El Deseo, and Eyes, produced by La Iguana and Alta Prods., also will see their helmers vie for best director. Also nominated in the directing category is Cesc Gay for his In the City. Gay and co-writer Tomas Aragay will face off for best original script with Bollain and Alicia Luna for Eyes, Jaime Rosales and Enric Rufas for Hours of the Day and Pablo Berger for Torremolinos 73.

PARIS -- Two Spanish-language titles have been added to the sidebar Un Certain Regard at the upcoming Festival de Cannes, organizers said Tuesday. The films are La Cruz del Sur (Cross of the South), directed by Pablo Reyero of Argentina, and Los Soldados de Salamina, directed by Spaniard David Trueba. Mauritanian filmmaker Abderrahmane Sissako will head the Un Certain Regard jury, which is composed mainly of film journalists. The panel will award the Grand Prix for what it considers the best film in the 19-strong lineup and also has been given the freedom to decide on two other awards for whatever the jurors think should be rewarded.
