This year, Ryan will present a special screening of the 1998 hit film and also host a masterclass about writing and directing her sophomore 2023 film “What Happens Later,” which will additionally be screened at the Festival. The masterclass will be moderated by “No Man’s Land” director Danis Tanović.

Ryan made her directorial debut with 2015’s WWII drama “Ithaca,” which marked a reunion for Ryan and frequent collaborator Tom Hanks.

Hulu is giving Shark Week a run for its money this July with not one but seven National Geographic specials dropping on the streaming service at the start of the month. Starz has announced the movie and TV titles coming to the service in June. The Starz June 2024 schedule includes the season four premiere of Power Book II: Ghost.

On the film front, Bros, Ticket to Paradise, How I Learned to Fly (featuring Cliff “Method Man” Smith), Get On Up, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Billy Madison, Carlito’s Way, How High, Jarhead, Law Abiding Citizen, and several other notable titles join the Starz app this month.

The fourth and final season of “Power Book II: Ghost” debuts on Friday, June 7, at midnight Et on the Starz app, which also coincides with the 10th Anniversary of “Power’s” debut on Starz.

For context, “Rashomon” is a 1950 Jidaigeki drama from Akira Kurosawa that was the first Japanese film to receive international acclaim, winning the Golden Lion at the 1951 Venice Film Festival, as well as an Honorary Oscar in 1952. The film tells the story of how a samurai was murdered, multiple times through multiple vantage points. Meg Ryan's new romantic comedy, What Happens Later, has a mixed reception on Rotten Tomatoes with a 51% score from 35 critics. This continues a streak of negative reviews for Ryan, who hasn't had a Fresh-rated movie since 1998's You've Got Mail. Although not her highest-scoring film, What Happens Later is her best score in 22 years, coming close to reaching a Fresh rating.

In her latest movie, which she also directed and co-wrote, Ryan stars as Willa, a woman who accidentally runs into her ex Bill (David Duchovny) and winds up spending the night trapped in the airport with him when they get snowed in, which causes them to reminisce about their past.

The Young Guns movies featured a star-studded ensemble cast, including Emilio Estevez, Kiefer Sutherland, Charlie Sheen, and Lou Diamond Phillips. Notable actors such as Tom Cruise, Terry O'Quinn, Viggo Mortensen, Christian Slater, and Terence Stamp also appeared in the films. Rock music legend Jon Bon Jovi made a cameo and provided the end credits theme for Young Guns 2.

The Young Guns movies featured a wealth of acting talent, including some surprisingly familiar faces. 1988's Young Gun featured an all-star ensemble cast for its action-adventure Western. The sequel, 1990's Young Guns 2, expanded the cast even further with a packed line-up of famous actors.

Young Guns starred Emilio Estevez as William H. "Billy the Kid" Bonney in an adaptation of the infamous gunslinger's life. After their benefactor is slain, Billy and his troupe of renegades (known as the Regulators) enact a violent revenge which leads to them becoming the hunted.

Matt Damon went through great lengths for his starring role in the 1996 feature Courage Under Fire. But transforming for his character the way that he did came at a physical and mental price.

Courage Under Fire was a very important film for Damon at the time. Damon played a former soldier and medic who was traumatized from the experiences he faced in a war. Damon’s character turned to drugs to curb that trauma, which later led to extreme addiction. The actor was willing to do whatever it took to prepare for the role, including losing 40 pounds to achieve his character’s emaciated look.

But losing all of that weight so quickly came with long term physical complications. In a resurfaced interview with Film Scout, Damon revealed he ate excessively after filming the movie.

The month of April for Hulu is jam-packed with TV and film goodies, from Adam Sandler’s 1999 comedy “Big Daddy” to Fox’s hit sitcom “New Girl.”

Hulu’s list of new releases for April 2023 don’t feature many blockbusters, but if we dig a little, I’m sure we can find some gems.

Perhaps the most promising items are on the TV side of things. Tiny Beautiful Things premieres on April 7 and stars Kathryn Hahn as “a floundering writer who becomes a revered advice columnist while her own life is falling apart.” That will be followed by comedy Am I Being Unreasonable? on April 11 and two documentaries: high school football story Algiers, America (April 19) and Tupac Shakur piece Dear Mama (April 22).

The best TV candidate this month, however, is probably Saint X on April 26. This series, told via multiple timelines, “explores and upends the girl-gone-missing genre as it explores how a young woman’s mysterious death during an idyllic Caribbean vacation creates a traumatic ripple effect that eventually pulls her surviving sister into a dangerous pursuit of the truth.

One of the most anticipated television releases of April is coming to Hulu on April 7. “Tiny Beautiful Things” stars Kathryn Hahn as troubled writer Clare. Ironically, she becomes a great advice columnist as her life falls apart. Her marriage is in trouble and her teen daughter hates her. Plus, her writing career is going nowhere.
