Wonderful documentary on the American female expatriate community in Paris, France in the 1920s and 1930s. Uses home movies, old photos and interviews to bring that creative period to life in a real way. The film doesn not shy away from the fact that many of these women were lesbian and lived that lifestyle quite openly in the permissive atmosphere there then. The film discusses the era by looking at the lives of several women. Gertrude Stein and Alice Toklas are discussed as are Josephine Baker and many more women who may not be household names in the U.S. but were well known back then. A great feminist history documentary that has much to say about life in a richly creative community. Recommended.
