In "Magnetic Rose," the opera singer's lover is named Carlo Rambaldi. This is most likely a tribute to film special effects creator Carlo Rambaldi who has contributed effects to "Alien" and "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" (among others).
In "Cannon fodder" the S character is represented by the nazi "Schutzstaffel" (aka SS) division symbol, two S letters in a form of lightning. Notice them when the officer is elevated to the cannon to fire, written on the floor "SStep".
The sound effect of the Nostromo's computers turning on in the opening scene of Ridley Scott's Alien (1979) can be heard briefly at an elapsed time of 00:24:57 (Region 1 DVD).
Above the entrance to the cannon it appears to read, SKLUF ACCURATE AND MAGNIFICENT PLAY OF VOLUMES IN LIET(UVOS), this is actually a reference to, "Architecture is the skillful, accurate and magnificent plays of volumes seen in light." - Le Corbusier.
In the vignette Cannon Fodder, several scenes are based on photos of the French Maginot Line.
