Tim Allen hasn’t been making a ton of movies or TV shows lately, but he has been making a lot of headlines for being a giant asshole. There were the reports that Allen previously threw his Home Improvement co-star Patricia Richardson under the bus during contract negotiations with ABC, allegations that he exposed himself to “Tool Girl” Pamela Anderson in 1991 and claims that he was “so fucking rude” while working with Casey Wilson, which seems especially egregious because he was literally dressed like Santa Claus at the time.
So it’s not entirely shocking that a new anecdote about Allen being a dick to his collaborators just dropped.
As reported by Slash Film, director Barry Sonnenfeld’s newest book, Best Possible Place, Worst Possible Time: True Stories from a Career in Hollywood, describes the process of making the 2002 film Big Trouble. The largely forgotten crime comedy starred Allen, as...

Tim Allen is a complicated figure for a lot of folks of a certain age. Tim "The Toolman" Taylor on "Home Improvement" turned him into a beloved TV dad, voicing Buzz Lightyear in "Toy Story" made him synonymous with the childhoods of a generation, and perhaps most importantly, he's Santa Claus. He's also an actor who has been very open about his conservative political beliefs, going so far as to star in the right-wing sitcom "Last Man Standing" for nine seasons. This makes him a polarizing presence in the overwhelmingly left-leaning Hollywood, but Allen's controversies are far worse than his views on the American government.
In Pamela Anderson's memoir "Love, Pamela," she noted that Allen flashed her on the set of "Home Improvement" when she was only 23 and claimed, "He said it was only fair because he had seen me naked.

Disney’s long-expected move to fold ABC Signature into 20th Television brings to an end the media conglom’s in-house TV studio, which started off as Touchstone Television a decade before Disney bought ABC, subsequently being renamed ABC Studios and more recently ABC Signature.
Launched in 1985, Touchstone TV’s first major hit was Golden Girls, which ran on NBC for seven seasons. Other successful series from that era include Blossom, also for NBC, and Home Improvement, Ellen and Boy Meets World for ABC.
In the first years after ABC became part of Disney, Touchstone Television continued to sell to all networks — which is how 20th Television operated for its entire run at Fox — with shows such as Felicity and Popular for the WB and The PJs for Fox/WB.

Roadside Attractions has acquired North American rights to Pamela Anderson’s “The Last Showgirl,” after making a splash and premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival, the company announced on Friday.
The film was directed by Gia Coppola and will be released only in theaters for 2024 Awards Season.
In his review of the film, The Wrap’s Matthew Creith wrote, “Director Gia Coppola takes a modern audience into the dazzling world of Las Vegas revues and showgirls in the aptly titled “The Last Showgirl.” Anderson stars as Shelley, an aging performer who reveres The Razzle Dazzle, a seemingly ancient remnant of Las Vegas’s golden past. Equipped with dance skills and a love of live performances, Shelley is heartbroken when it’s announced that the show she’s dedicated her life to will close for good in two weeks’ time.”

Kids of the 1990s know Jonathan Taylor Thomas quite well. The actor began his professional career at age eight, playing the title puppy in the animated series "The Adventures of Spot." He first appeared on-screen playing Kevin Brady in a failed "Brady Bunch" spinoff called "The Bradys" in 1990. The following year, he was cast as the ultra-cool and super-precocious Randy on the hit sitcom "Home Improvement." That series was a massive success, and made Thomas a household name. Thomas appeared in 178 of the show's 204 episodes, and he became a teenybopper icon, regularly gracing the cover of oversaturated tweener mags like Bop and Tiger Beat.
During his time on "Home Improvement," Thomas also stepped away to appear in multiple high-profile feature films, perhaps most notably playing the voice of the young Simba in 1994's "The Lion King." He was a take-charge youth in "Man of the House," and also played Tom...

Emmy turned 76 this year, but her wrinkles still aren’t showing thanks to the tireless efforts of the production crew that helped put on this year’s awards show. (See the complete winners list.) After watching the ceremony on television all my life, I actually got to attend it this year and bore witness to “Hacks” and “Shōgun” winning the night’s biggest prizes. While seated in the Orchestra section of the Peacock Theater, I uncovered these five secrets about the 2024 Emmys that you wouldn’t know unless you were actually there.

All of those classic tunes you heard while watching the ceremony on your screens was just the icing on the cake. During the commercials, attendees were treated to dozens more TV theme songs as the event was taking a break. It’s easy to take Home Improvement at face value. It’s a simple story about a Michigan family man named Tim Taylor, his wife Jill, his three sons and, of course, his next-door neighbor Wilson, who perpetually hides the lower portion of his face as if it were Austin Powers’ junk.

In retrospect, even though it regularly featured the raw sexual charisma of Richard Karn, Home Improvement was actually pretty dull. Thankfully, one viewer has come along with a wildly outlandish theory that makes the sitcom far more intriguing.
A fan on Reddit proposed an elaborate theory that Home Improvement is really biblical in nature, with Tim “the Tool Man” Taylor acting as a metaphorical “Christ figure.” Which may seem pretty tough to swallow, if not for the fact that Tim Allen does have some experience when it comes to playing bearded deities associated with Christmas.

Do you love Tim Allen? Well, you’re about to get more of him because ABC has approved a series order for ‘Shifting Gears’ that he will be helming. So we’re about to get more of that good old Tim Allen humor we love so much.
Tim Allen Returns To ABC With Comedy Show ‘Shifting Gears’
Tim Allen is going to be returning to ABC in a new comedy show. The network recently greenlit the series that will see Allen star as a widower and owner of a classic car restoration business whose adult daughter (Kat Dennings) and teenage kids move back in with him. Drama, I know right?
This will mark a return to ABC for Allen, who led the hit series ‘Home Improvement’ in the 1990s. He also appeared across six seasons of ‘Last Man Standing,’ which later moved to Fox channel for its final three seasons.

Comedy icon Tim Allen is revving back up for his return to ABC, the network that launched his legendary TV career in the 1990s. The alphabet network has given a series order to the multi-camera sitcom “Shifting Gears,” which will star Allen and rising star Kat Dennings.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Tim Allen back where it all started with ‘Home Improvement,'” said ABC president Craig Erwich. “His signature blend of humor and heart is exactly what we’re hoping ‘Shifting Gears’ captures.”
In “Shifting Gears,” Allen will play Matt, a recently widowed gearhead who owns a classic car restoration shop. His orderly world is turned upside down when his estranged daughter Riley (Dennings) and her two teenagers temporarily move back in. As Riley and the kids bring modern chaos to Matt’s garage, they all might finally shift into a higher gear as a family.

After formally picking up to series Shifting Gears, starring and executive produced by Tim Allen, ABC has opted not to proceed with its other multi-camera comedy pilot, Forgive & Forget, starring and exec produced by Ty Burrell.
The pickup of Shifting Gears was fully expected. While not too surprising, the pass on Forgive & Forget was not.
ABC does have comedy shelf space: By the end of this season, the network will be down to one returning series, flagship single-camera half-hour Abbott Elementary, as The Conners is set for an abbreviated seventh and final season.
Both Shifting Gears and Forgive & Forget are in the cost-effective multi-camera format and feature popular ABC comedy stars in Home Improvement and Last Man Standing‘s Allen and Modern Family‘s Burrell.
As Deadline reported, ABC was so determined to get Allen back on the air that it developed two scripts for him to choose from.

In the 1990s, Tim Allen was one of the biggest family comedy stars in the game. Beginning his career as a stand-up comic at the Comedy Store, his brand of family-friendly, relatable comedy made him stand out from his contemporaries. This led to ABC building a sitcom around him, Home Improvement. The show, where he played Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor, became one of the biggest shows of the nineties, regularly ranking near the top of the Nielsen ratings. It wasn’t a critical darling, but families loved it, with Allen becoming a household name.
However, his career hit a turning point in 1994 when he signed on to star in Disney’s The Santa Clause, where he played an everyday businessman who becomes the heir apparent to Santa’s mantle. The film was a total smash, making him a movie star overnight. The following year, he voiced Buzz Lightyear in the first Pixar movie,...

In what must be this week’s biggest forehead slap, Reuters has squashed an online rumor that CBS has offered Tim Allen and Richard Karn a billion dollars — billion with a B — to create a non-woke sitcom that’s “bound to make waves.”
The story, which was picked up by clickbait peddlers as truth because of course it was, originated on a site that claims to publish satirical news and commentary. Despite promising “laughs at the expense of American culture,” there’s nothing particularly funny about any of the site’s stories — they’re just lies dressed up as “satire.”
The original article reported (satirically!) that, “in a groundbreaking move that promises to redefine sitcom television, CBS has offered Tim Allen and Richard Karn a staggering $1 billion deal to create a non-woke sitcom. This bold investment reflects CBS’s commitment to fostering creative freedom and addressing the evolving landscape of entertainment.

Not every comedy series can achieve the level of satirical excellence that The Simpsons once enjoyed — especially not those shows made by Seth MacFarlane.
Television has always played an important role within the universe of The Simpsons. After all, the sadly discontinued intro sequence famously ends with Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie all crowding together on the couch to watch TV together before being sucked into a black hole, turning into butterflies or getting crushed to death by Rick and Morty. And, since the show prided itself on holding up a playful, yellow, four-fingered mirror to American society and pop culture, it inevitably had to playfully jab the other comedies on TV that were inferior to what Matt Groening and his writers had cooking.

Over the years, dads like Ward Cleaver (“Leave it to Beaver”), Mike Brady (“The Brady Bunch”) and Howard Cunningham (“Happy Days”) have dispensed sound advice and doled out stern but gentle discipline when needed. New dads such as Ricky Ricardo (“I Love Lucy”) and Jack Pearson (“This Is Us”) have shown the joy and wonderment of being a new parent, and the various dilemmas all parents face when raising young children. Andy Taylor (“The Andy Griffith Show”), Steve Douglas (“My Three Sons”) and Danny Tanner (“Full House’) are widowers trying to be both mother and father to their broods,...

Can you believe ‘Home Improvement’ did not end because of pay disparity, even though it’s been going on for years that Patricia Richardson co-starred alongside Tim Allen?
While Richardson, at the time, wanted to make it seem as though she ran because she wasn’t being offered a good deal, no amount of money in the world, per her own words, would have made her film another season for ABC. Why? She’s finally opening up about the reason she left the hit show.
Patricia Richardson Didn’t Want To Return For Another Season of ‘Home Improvement’ For This Reason
When the time came for Richardson to exit the sitcom, she found a way to rub it in Disney’s face as well and requested for everything Disney had denied her through the years.

According to Patricia Richardson, the 1990s sitcom Home Improvement would have gotten a ninth season had Disney, which co-produced the ABC series through its Touchstone Television company, accepted her request for equal pay between her and co-star Tim Allen. “When I took the job, they said it wasn’t meant to be the Tim Allen show. It was meant to be our show,” Richardson said in a new interview with the Los Angeles Times, reflecting on her time playing Jill Taylor on the hit series. “I’ve always said, I don’t want to play the thankless wife.” For Season 3, Richardson got a new deal entitling her to four Jill-centric episodes per season and a profit share point for a portion of the back-end money, she told the Times. “I knew that residuals just get less and less, and I felt that I am going to end up being a...

Patricia Richardson was a major reason why the ’90s sitcom “Home Improvement” was as successful as it was for eight seasons—and she knew it. So when it came time to re-up for Season 9, she wanted to strike a deal with Disney: the same pay rate as costar Tim Allen and a producer credit.
Predictably, the network turned her down, so Richardson walked.
“I knew that Disney would in no way pay me that much. That was my way to say ‘no’ and was a little bit of a flip-off to Disney,” she told the Los Angeles Times in an interview published Thursday. “I’d been there all this time, and they never even paid me a third of what Tim was making, and I was working my ass off. I was a big reason why women were watching.”

Patricia Richardson, who starred as family matriarch Jill Taylor on the hit ABC sitcom Home Improvement, said she used the large pay gap between her and co-star Tim Allen to avoid continuing with the show.
“I told everybody, ‘There’s not enough money in the world to get me to do a ninth year,'” she said in a new interview with the Los Angeles Times. “This show is over. It needs to end.”
Richardson claims ABC offered her $1 million per episode and Allen $2 million per episode for a 25-episode ninth season. Allen was willing, but Richardson wanted to spend more time with her family in the wake of her divorce from Ray Baker.
Still, she claimed gave her pitch to ABC: pay her the same amount as Allen and give her an executive producer credit on the show. Then would she sign on for another season.
She offered it knowing it was doomed.

Diane Ford, a stand-up comic and Las Vegas headliner who drew laughs on HBO specials and A&e’s An Evening at the Improv, died April 30 of cancer in Sarasota, Florida, her nephew Wes Roberts announced. She was 68.
Ford also showed up 13 times on Fox’s Comic Strip Live and eight times on Jerry Lewis’ Labor Day telethon, which raised money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Ford was on the HBO specials Women of the Night II in 1988, Command Performance in 1990 and episodes of One Night Stand in ’90 and ’92. She made 13 appearances on Evening at the Improv and had three shows recorded for the BBC.
When Tim Allen was asked by Bon Appetit magazine which three comedians he would invite to dinner, he replied that one “would have to be a woman who wouldn’t be afraid to tell us if we were being full of it, and it would be one of my contemporaries.

There are some moments when we all want to get some comfort in our lives and seek nostalgia. That is when the TV shows and movies from our childhood come into play. But while some of them have aged well and are still just as funny and heartwarming, others will only bring disappointment.
This list may seem perfect for any 80's and 90's kid, but if you take a closer look, you'll realize that none of these shows are actually good by today's standards.
Baywatch (1989-2001)
To say that Baywatch was bad would not even be a controversial opinion or a hot take. Despite its longevity, the only thing the show could rely on was the good looks of its cast, which is why it was so overly sexualized. The creators must have hoped to hide the lousy production and all the plot holes behind a bunch of conveniently attractive people.

CBS sitcom "The Bob Newhart Show" was a staple for American TV audiences of the '70s, thanks in large part to clever writing and Newhart's much-loved performance as psychologist and comedic straight man Bob Hartley. The show ran for six seasons from 1972 to 1978, but it had a surprisingly long pop cultural afterlife. Characters from "The Bob Newhart Show" have popped up in everything from "Murphy Brown" to "St. Elsewhere" to "Alf," though their most famous reappearance came in the jokey "Newhart" finale in 1990. In it, Newhart wakes up in bed next to his wife from the previous series and discovers that this entire sitcom was all an elaborate dream. "The Bob Newhart Show," it turned out, was his real world.
When it wasn't being resurrected for increasingly meta crossovers, "The Bob Newhart Show" was a pretty straightforward sitcom about the life of a mental health clinician and the assortment...

New data from Ampere Analysis shows how much HBO titles like ‘Band of Brothers’ and ‘Insecure’ have risen in popularity since becoming available on Netflix.
It’s been nearly a year since reports first surfaced that Warner Bros. Discovery was in talks with Netflix to send some HBO original titles to stream on that platform, while at the same time remaining on Wbd’s platform Max. At the time the move was considered somewhat controversial, as the prevailing wisdom at the time held that media companies should keep their prized content in order to draw viewers to their own services. But months after the licensing deal between HBO and Netflix became official, new data from Ampere Analysis shows that many HBO shows doubled in popularity after being sent to stream on Netflix.
“Ballers” saw the biggest jump in relative popularity, quadrupling its score in the month after its Netflix premiere.

It isn’t uncommon for sitcoms to get off on the wrong foot and eventually find their footing along the line, and similar was the case for Larry David’s Seinfeld. Often regarded as one of the greatest sitcoms of all time, during its original run on NBC, the sitcom didn’t begin on a high note, as its pilot was completely different from what the show would become later on.
Similar to some of NBC’s other hit shows, which were too off to a rough start, the reception to Seinfeld‘s pilot was brutal, but the network decided to stick with it nevertheless.

The complaint also claims the sitcom star refused to take a sobriety test, although police officers say he had a blood alcohol level of 0.15, nearly twice the legal limit. In addition, the court documents allege Bryan was involved in an accident the night of his DUI arrest, which resulted in property damage. It also claims he failed to stop to provide his name and address after the accident. Bryan was originally arrested in the early hours of February 17 and booked...

Very sad news today as it’s been reported that M. Emmet Walsh has died at the age of 88. No matter the size of the role, the prolific character actor always made a unique impression throughout his long career, which spanned six decades.
M. Emmet Walsh is best known for playing Bryant in Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner, the captain of the Los Angeles Police Department who tasks Deckard with tracking down the replicants at the beginning of the film. He told THR that the cast and crew weren’t quite sure what the make of the movie when they first saw it. “I don’t know if I really understood what in the hell it was all about,” Walsh said. “We all sat there and it ended. And nothing. We didn’t know what to say or to think or do! We didn’t know what in the hell we had done!

"All in the Family" might've been Norman Lear's finest half-hour as a sitcom producer, but I'm not sure he ever put a funnier show on the airwaves than "The Jeffersons." For 11 seasons, Sherman Hemsley's dry-cleaning magnate George Jefferson and Isabel Sanford's good-hearted Louise "Weezy" Jefferson led a stellar cast that delivered edgy-for-network-television laughs revolving around race, class, gender, and whatever happened to be grinding the hot-headed George's gears that particular week. It was the African-American answer to "All in the Family" (on which the characters of George and Weezy originated), and might actually be more shocking today for its fearless deployment of the n-word (particularly early in the series' run).
And if you're making a list of the most memorable theme songs in television history, "The Jeffersons" better be in the top five. Anyone who grew up watching the show in prime time or via syndication should...
