I know a lot of you are excited about Avengers: Infinity War, so while we wait for it to be released, which seems like a lifetime away, we have a great retro mashup trailer for you to watch! It comes from Darth Blender and it features a mashup of footage from several classic superhero films that were made in the 80s and 90s. I'm sure you'll remember some of these if you were up to speed with what Marvel was doing during this era. Below the video, you'll find a list of all the films that were used and all the characters that the actors are meant to play.
I love that Chuck Norris in The Punisher! It also features Burt Reynolds as Iron Man, David Hasselhoff as Nick Fury, Jean-Claude Van Damme as Winter Soldier, Dennis Quaid as Star-Lord, Eddie Murphy as Falcon and more!

The Defenders marks something of endpoint for all of the Marvel series on Netflix. We've reported that the main storyline in The Defenders folds-in key plot elements from Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. We also noted that each of the characters will grow or change, stemming from events in this mini-series. Now we're learning that The Defenders may also launch the next phase of Marvel shows on Netflix. So, what does that mean?
As we approach the end of Phase 3 in the McU films, there's been a ton of speculation (some of it ours) regarding Phase 4. A good deal of this speculation has dealt with who lives and who dies, but some are wondering if Iron Man and Captain America might hand off their mantles, allowing someone else to wear the suit and carry the shield, which is an exceptionally commonplace event in the comics. Consequently, it's...

We chat to Jon Bernthal about his new film, Pilgrimage, as well as The Punisher, Daredevil and more...
Jon Bernthal is a very busy man. In 2017 alone he’s got seven projects listed and you’d be hard pressed not to catch at least one of them, with Pilgrimage just hitting the shelves, Baby Driver currently across cinema screens, and the rather exciting prospect of The Punisher series hitting Netflix in November.
In Pilgrimage Bernthal plays a mute, channelling his performance through an unspoken relationship with a young, naïve monk (Tom Holland) which gives the film its heart and drive, as they set off as part of a group to try and remove a sacred relic from harms’ way. The film is, for the most part, a tense game of cat and mouse with various threats closing in on them from all sides (including an especially nasty...

Well, director James Wan's Aquaman just got a helluva lot more interesting! Legendary action star Dolph Lundgren has been cast alongside Jason Mamoa in the film!
According to THR, Lundgren will take on the role of King Nereus of the aquatic kingdom of Xebel, "who claims Mera as his own and wants to kill Aquaman." I never expected to see Lundgren pop up in any of these modern day superhero films that are being made these days, but it looks like Wan found the perfect role for him and it gonna be a lot of fun to see him in this role!
As an Atlantean from Xebel, Nereus is a skilled warrior and has a number of superhuman powers that follow that include super strength, durability, Hydrokinesis, which is the ability to control water.
Lundgren will also join Amber Heard as Mera, Aquaman's royal love interest; Nicole Kidman...

It looks like Dolph Lundgren’s recent stint on Arrow has given him a taste for superheroics, because The Hollywood Reporter says he has just signed on to James Wan’s Aquaman. This will be Lundgren’s first role in a comic book movie since The Punisher in 1989, and this time he’ll be playing King Nereus, the ruler of an aquatic kingdom known as Xebel. That means he’s from the same place as Amber Heard’s Mera, and since the THR story says Lundgren’s character “claims Mera as his own,” that’ll probably make him yet another antagonist alongside Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Black Manta and Patrick Wilson’s Ocean Master. Presumably, the idea behind throwing in this many villains is that it might discourage people from making fun of this incarnation of Aquaman, since he has to be pretty badass to take on an underwater ...

With Jean-Claude Van Damme hitting the big screen this month in Kickboxer: Vengeance (a remake of his 1989 smash hit) we decided to find out who is the greatest of the legendary Eighties action heroes. Who kicked hardest, fought longest and has the staying power to be the last man standing? Let the fight begin!
Sylvester Stallone
Evidence: Sylvester Stallone is not only an enduring action star of note – from Rambo and Rocky, Cobra to Cliffhanger, right through to The Expendables, Sly has always set the box office cash tills ringing; but he is also an Oscar-nominated writer, a director, and even a painter. There is, it seems, very little he cannot do.
Verdict: Stallone is more rennaisance man than action hero king.
Dolph Lundgren
Evidence: At 6ft 5 and built like a Sherman tank, Swedish powerhouse Lundgren has taken on James Bond and Rocky, played The Punisher, a Universal Soldier and was one of The Expendables.

It’s been quite some time since Dolph Lundgren has ventured into the superhero genre, as 1989’s The Punisher is long behind him. Thanks to the TCA press tour though, we now know that’s all set to change when the action movie icon joins the cast of Arrow this coming season – as a villain.
Not much is known about his character as of now, aside from the fact that he will be playing a member of the Bravta, a Russian organized crime syndicate, and factor heavily into this year’s flashbacks.
Executive producer Marc Guggenheim thankfully spilled a few more beans when talking to Collider, revealing the following:
“We always said that Oliver had a five-year journey when he was marooned on the [island]. This year, Oliver spends his time in the flashbacks in Russia. We know from various seeds we planted back in the pilot that he knows how to speak Russian,...

We took a close look at the Daredevil season 2 trailer to see what Marvel Universe goodness might be hiding within...
The first real trailer for Daredevil season 2 is here, and it's no joke. The focus is put squarely on Jon Bernthal as the Punisher for this one, and (if you can believe this) it appears to be even darker than the first one. I went hunting for Marvel Universe details in the trailer and found a few fun things.
Watch the Daredevil season 2 trailer, and then we'll get into some analysis...
Alright. Let's get going. Beware, because there are potential spoilers in this, so don't read if you're not into that sort of thing...
Unlike the first trailer for season one, the Daredevil season 2 trailer isn't exactly dripping in Marvel Universe references. That's not a bad thing. The trailers for Jessica Jones took a similar approach, and...

Ever since Marvel took a more direct role in producing its own movies, starting with Iron Man in 2008, our expectations have changed. Nowadays we expect blockbuster superhero adventures featuring top-of-the-line special effects in productions. We also expect those movies to be generally suitable for most of the family, i.e. rated PG-13. It wasn't always that way, though. Back in 1989, Dolph Lundgren starred in The Punisher, the first R-rated adaptation of a very violent comic book series. (Two more versions would follow.) As the 1990s got rolling, we saw The Crow, Timecop, and Judge Dredd, among others, followed by the Marvel property Blade in 1998. (Ryan Reynolds costarred in a sequel, Blade: Trinity, in 2004.) More recently, Watchmen became a big success in 2009, directed...

Jim Carrey scored a huge hit with The Mask, yet the comic books leave the door open for more films. Here's why they could work...
In some ways, 1994's The Mask was ahead of its time. Sure, when we try to pick out the greatest comic-book adaptations today, we're spoilt for choice: with Marvel entering the third phase of their cinematic universe, transforming formerly obscure characters into mainstream icons, and DC's Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice ready to kick their movies up into a higher gear, the list of adaptations looks set to grow and grow.
Still, movies based on comic books remain largely superhero-centric, which is a shame considering the huge range of fantastic titles out there deserving of a larger audience. Just over 20 years ago, particularly in the UK, comic books and their respective characters were generally seen as childish, goofy, for nerds only – and the lack...

“Twenty five years. Makes a girl think.” So said Marilyn Monroe in Some Like it Hot, and she was rarely wrong about anything, except maybe her taste in husbands. Cinematically, an awful lot can happen in 25 years and Hollywood as we know it today, emerged from seismic developments that took place a quarter of a century ago. 1989 was a game-changer; an absolutely pivotal year in the evolution of 21st century Hollywood. Chances are, whatever you watch at the multiplex this weekend will be genetically traceable to that dark, iPad-less, internetless, Jedwardless time. For those of us who are not going gentle into the dark night of their forties, the specific date of this Big Bang was August 11th 1989. That was the day that Batman finally opened in the UK.

To paraphrase Sir William Wallace, every movie dies. But not every movie lives. It costs a lot just to release a film, let alone promote it. Those efforts are sometimes shirked for a chance to make a quicker, cheaper buck. In today.s age of rampant straight-to-dvd markets, that dollar has grown smaller, but only because so many more people are chasing it. But before the days where details of a movie would be everywhere during filming, movies were being filmed and held from release all the time. One such occasion for this was 1994.s The Fantastic Four. Marvel foolishly sold the film rights to their characters in the seventies and eighties, and their licenses were abused for several cheap attempts at bringing the characters to the big screen. What resulted was efforts like Albert Pyun.s micro-budget Captain America and Mark Goldblatt.s (actually pretty cool) direct-to-video The Punisher...

Before 1998's Blade, Marvel Comics couldn't seem to catch a break when it came to movie versions of their different properties. In the wake of Iron Man 3 and The Avengers, I know that's very hard to believe. There was a serial for Captain America released in 1944 through Republic Pictures. George Lucas executive produced a live-action adaptation of Howard the Duck in 1986.
The next few years up to Wesley Snipes' take on the legendary vampire slayer were plagued with low-budget versions of the comic book publisher's characters. Dolph Lundgren's The Punisher couldn't even muster a theatrical release in the U.S. Roger Corman's The Fantastic Four never officially saw the light of day anywhere, although bootleg copies float around.

Seconds out - ding ding! Movieland is replete with tales of similar films coincidentally finding themselves fighting toe-to-toe: Robin Hood and Prince Of Thieves; Capote and Infamous; Snow White & The Huntsman and Mirror Mirror; most recently Olympus Has Fallen and White House Down. Joining that fine tradition we now have a pair of old man boxing movies. In the red corner, Sly Stallone and Robert De Niro in Grudge Match. And now, newly arrived in the blue corner, please welcome James Caan and Louis Gossett Jr. in Fighting Man.Ok, so it's not quite the heavyweight Rocky / Raging Bull pairing of its rival, but Caan has The Godfather and a Peckinpah film under his belt (not to mention the excellent and underrated Peckinpah homage Way Of the Gun), while Gossett took the gloves off for four Iron Eagles and the Dolph version of The Punisher. Dolph Lundgren once played Frank Castle in a god-awful The Punisher movie, so clearly, he an expert on all things Marvel. Which sort of explains why the once-mighty action star took a few swipes at Joss Whedon.s The Avengers for its deceptive use of on-screen violence. While talking with the L.A. Times on behalf of The Package (now out on DVD), Lundgren guaranteed himself a few headlines by going after the highest-grossing movie of 2012, claiming that its PG-13 approach to guns and violence does more harm to an audience than good: There will always be an exploration of new technology in things like The Avengers -- that was a great movie, by the way -- but I think certainly for part of the audience, if you fire a thousand bullets and there.s not a drop of blood, there.s something wrong with that. Part of the audience...

Dolph Lundgren has been the consummate action star since the 1980s, when he burst onto the film scene in the Bond flick, "A View to a Kill," before playing Rocky's Russian nemesis Ivan Drago in "Rocky IV" and He-Man in "Masters of the Universe."
He took on a different-than-usual challenge recently, playing the famous psychologist Dr. Sage Mennox in the ensemble comedy-drama, "Small Apartments."
Lundgren talked briefly with NextMovie about black hair dye, being honest with yourself, and which cast member of "The Expendables" would pose a threat to him in a fight.
Congratulations on "Small Apartments." You're obviously known for taking roles that show off your ability, you know, to beat the crap out of people.
(laughs) Exactly.
How much fun was it to play a guy who manipulates people mentally?
It was cool. Yeah. One of the first times I've played a guy who's educated, or at least he pretends to be.

Chicago – Not to be confused with Todd Haynes’s 1995 masterpiece featuring Julianne Moore in the performance of her career, “Safe” is a forgettable would-be blockbuster that puts star Jason Statham through the emotional wringer in order to justify a marathon of repetitive carnage. This is as predictable a star vehicle as one could imagine, yet the direction by Boaz Yakin is so strong that it nearly saves the material.
A sense of palpable tension pervades all 92 minutes of this fast-paced thriller and doesn’t end after the final fade-out. It seems like everyone in New York is conspiring to take down the film’s two protagonists: a former detective (Statham) and a pint-sized Chinese prodigy (Catherine Chan) kidnapped by thugs intent on exploiting her extraordinary math skills. The first half-hour of the picture is so oppressively doom-laden that it leads the audience to cheer on the bloodletting once it finally arrives.

Confession time here, the wife and I have been fans of Dolph Lundgren since way back when. We even dug him in The Punisher. The man is one of the rarest of action stars. He has the brawn yet he is also an incredibly smart guy which makes for a very unique action hero. And yes, Mr. Lundgren brings that quality back to the silver screen as he returns in this explosive sequel. When Dolph and I spoke at the junket for his latest feature The Expendables 2, we talked about giving his character a...

This past weekend saw Marvel reveal “Phase 2″ of their film line-up at the San Diego Comic Con so I thought what better film to pick for today’s Movie of the Day than a movie based on a Marvel character. Only this film is one of the most vilified, yet at the same time celebrated, of the early Marvel movies, Captain America.
I know what you’re thinking “Hang on, Captain America only came out last year”. Well yes, That Captain America movie came out last year, but there have been numerous other Captain America films released over the years – a Republic serial, two TV movies in the 70s starring Reb Brown and the movie that is my pick for Movie of the Day, 1990′s Captain America.
Directed by prolific talent Albert Pyun, who in the late 80s and early 90s was an unstoppable force in low-budget movie making – Cyborg,...

Jason Statham returns for yet another action movie, and this one may well be his best yet. Here’s Duncan’s review of the mighty Safe…
It’s amazing what a physiological effect a film can have on me sometimes. Despite the high expectations I had of Safe after the thoroughly entertaining trailer, mixed with my ardent love of Jason Statham, I was exhausted when I went to the screening. So tired in fact, that when I spoke to a friend of mine just before the film started I was barely able to string two words together, even using the word ‘magical’ to describe my hopes for Safe.
Now, I’ve used many superlatives to describe the films of our man Statham over the years, but ‘magical’ isn’t a logical fit. Regardless, by the time Safe had finished, I was running high on adrenaline and in a state of absolute joy,...

The unoriginality in Hollywood is well-documented, even expected at this point. 2011 set an all-time record for sequels, accounting for a fifth of the year’s wide releases, and there seems to be no end in sight to the prequels, sequels, remakes, and reboots as studios continue to invest in stale ideas. Unfortunately, it’s spreading. A trend shows the movie industry’s lobotomized, risk-averse decision-making is infecting TV now more than ever.
Previously: “Zombieland” and “The Punisher” TV Series in the Works at Fox
Creative, original, scripted shows already compete for attention with “unscripted” reality programming on thousands of channels, or network remakes of old TV series (like NBC’s upcoming “Munsters” or ABC’s failed “Charlie’s Angels”). Now, TV remakes of popular film titles could crowd the channels until, like the box office, there’s only a fraction of “new” left.
Recent attempts at movie-to-tv adaptations have been flops,...

The 69th Annual Golden Globes may have begun as a story about unleashing the risqué Ricky Gervais on the industry for his third and final time as host, but the narrative ended with more of the same this dull awards season. The Globes’ split categories predictably anointed presumed “best pictures” The Descendants and The Artist, the only two horses to bet on for Oscar glory in six weeks. As the returning host said truthfully, “It’s just like the Oscars, without the esteem.”
Earlier: Ricky Gervais toothless after all that talk
The Hollywood Foreign Press’ reputation for fawning over high-profile celebs and, allegedly, accepting under-the-table encouragement also loomed large Sunday night as both films solidified their front-runner status in the spotlight.
Johnny Depp, last year’s inexplicable double-nominee, emerged early then disappeared, though not before playing the good sport about The Tourist (again) and unofficially passing the torch to George Clooney,...

All too often, fans of any genre of literature find that the characters they love don’t translate well to film. Sometimes changes to character or costume are necessary to keep it believable to filmgoers (even I had to accept that Wolverine’s yellow spandex and bat-mask wouldn’t do any X-Men movie any justice). More often than not, it’s because filmmakers either don’t know what to do with a character, or they have to bend to studio notes. While every comic book film has its share of characters that don’t fit how they’ve been written over the years, there are some that simply got screwed...

While the last two films at least made the effort to try to stay close to the source material, 1989’s The Punisher is nothing more than a low budget 80s action flick with a comic book title tacked on.

The new movie is written by Boaz Yakin (Prince of Persia, The Punisher) and Edward Ricourt. According to the Rcmp, six people were injured after a propane explosion on the film set of the video game adaptation, "Dungeon Siege 2" near Maple Ridge, outside of Vancouver, BC.
Emergency crews arrived at Golden Ears Provincial Park, where the movie is being filmed, with BC Ambulance taking injured cast and crew to hospital with varying degrees of burns. One person had a broken leg, which may have happened as the person ran from the explosion, police said. Apparently crew members were filling up fuel canisters at a propane truck when there was a small explosion, after a supply hose became disconnected and a nearby heater ignited the gas.
"In the Name of The King: Dungeon Siege 2" is directed by Uwe "I Hate Film Critics" Boll, starring Dolph Lundgren ("The Punisher").

80s action legend Chuck Norris is on a “wish list” for the sequel to The Expendables according to one of the film’s stars.
The 2010 summer blockbuster starred Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Mickey Rourke and Dolph Lundgren and took over $103 million at the box office worldwide. Inevitably, a sequel is already in the works.
Dolph told Upbeat Productions:
Chuck Norris is on my wish list. He’d be great as a General or something like that.
I’m not privy to who didn’t sign for the first one and for what reason and all of that because Stallone was the one who hired people but Jean Claude (Van Damme), who I have worked with before and is a nice guy, was asked and (Steven) Seagal didn’t want to do it but maybe he’ll be in the sequel.

I have no idea how these folks managed to do this, but the people behind Norwegian television show Gylne Tider somehow gathered a whole group of celebrity icons from the Seventies through the Eighties and into the Nineties to sing/lip dub Let It Be by The Beatles. Essentially, this video below is a whole bunch of Wtf mixed with a session of "Where Are They Now?" -- or more accurately, a video version of the 4chan game "You Nostalgia, You Lose".
Featured in the video are a few of our geek icons, such as Dee Snider from Twisted Sister, Lou Ferrigno (The Incredible Hulk), Roger Moore (James Bond), Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger from A Nightmare on Elm Street), Mickey Rourke (Whiplash from Iron Man 2), and Dolph Lundgren (The Punisher, Masters of the Universe, Rocky IV, The Expendables).

In the next few days I'll (Alex) be speaking to Dolph Lundgren, Terry Crews and Randy Couture who are all promoting the November 23rd DVD and Blu-ray release of "The Expendables." I have all my questions ready to go, but if you guys have anything that you want to ask them, let me know in the comments section below. I'll end up taking several of your questions and then give you credit in eventual article that we'll write. Do you want to know what Lundgren thinks about "The Punisher" movies or whether Crews knows anything about an "Idiocracy" sequel? Any Mma questions for Couture? And I'll obviously take all the "Expendables" questions you have.

In the early years of the American Revolution, the fledgling nation known as the United States appeared to be participating in what could only be described as a lost cause. The Continental Army was routinely harried by the superior-trained British Regulars, supplies were short, food stores were dwindling, and the outlook was, to put it mildly, dangerously grim. The country's tottering economy was so weak and inflation so high that, in the exasperated words of General George Washington, it took "a wagonful of money to buy a wagonful of hay".
"Wait a minute," you ask. "I thought we were talking about comic book films here." That we are. But give me just one more moment. Washington's frustration at the worthlessness of his nation's currency was due to an overload in product. A million-dollar-bill certainly seems like it would be worth a fortune, especially so if it was the only one in existence.

The buddy cop sub-genre is always a hard task to nail as witnessed in Kevin Smith’s groan-inducing Cop Out. The key is getting two likeable leads that can play off each other and who can bring a balance to the predicaments that come their way. The best of the best in this department is Running Scared with Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines. Coming in a close second is Dead Heat, a film that not only has action and comedy, but one that adds horror in the form of the undead.
If Dan O’ Bannon directed Beverly Hills Cop it would look something like Mark Goldblatt’s directorial debut. Hardcore horror fans pushed aside the lighter side of cinema in the latter half of the 80′s, and in the wake of such arrogance pictures like Dead Heat were left out in the cold. I take movies for their face value,...

When you bring together some of the biggest action stars from the 80s in a flick like The Expendables, you're guaranteed of one thing: body counts that make Jason Voorhees look like a slacker. If you need further convincing, check out this absolutely awesome poster for the film -- it gives you a title by title breakdown of kills for each cast member.
Coming in last, it's a tie between Terry Crews and Randy Couture -- each has a paltry two kills. Each has only done one previous action film -- and let's face it, Crews can't kill people on Everybody Hates Chris. Steve Austin fares slightly better with 14 movie kills in two films. I'm curious about Mickey Rourke's tally of 31 -- only because Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man isn't on there and I can't recall if he killed anyone in that movie or not. Jason Statham, who shows up with 141 movie kills,...

With the biggest, greatest, most over the top action film of all time coming out on 19th August in the form of The Expendables (our review here), HeyUGuys is bringing you the ultimate run down of the kill count that these historic action actors have each tallied up.
From throat rips to decapitations, martial art assassins to robotic killers and Yippee Ki-Yay’s to Asta La Vista’s, they have dealt death in every way possible with every weapon imaginable.
Each death reaches the same conclusion but each actor carries it off in their own unique style, often adding a personal touch. Be it an Arnie verbal send off like “Stick Around” after being stuck with a huge knife against a post or adding some humour by playing games with the baddies like John McClane in Die Hard ” Now I have a machine gun, Ho Ho Ho”. A memorable death...
