The courtroom scenes include counsel shouting "Objection!" and the Judge replying "Sustained" or "Overruled" and occasionally ordering things "stricken from the record". These terms are routine in courts in the United States but are never heard in courts based on English jurisprudence, as was the case in colonial Kenya in 1941.
In the movie, the cuckolded Sir Henry Broughton, played by Joss Ackland, commits suicide at his Kenyan estate during an argument with Diana, played by Greta Scacchi following his trial and acquittal. In truth, snubbed by the Happy Valley set after the scandal, he returned to England and died of a drug overdose in a Liverpool hotel in 1942.
