As we start gearing up for the Holiday Shopping Season, there are a new batch of home media releases arriving this week, and a few of those titles might feel right at home on your wish list this year. Heathers, a personal favorite of mine is getting the Steelbook treatment this Tuesday, courtesy of Rlje Films, and in terms of recent horror releases, both 47 Meters Down: Uncaged and Bliss are both hitting Blu-ray and DVD as well.

Scream Factory is showing some love to Stacey Keach and Road Games (1981) this week, and for those of you who enjoy your sibling survival stories with a bit of a nasty twist to them, Arrow Video has put together a special edition release of Flowers in the Attic.

Other Blu and DVD films coming home on November 12th include Wicked World, The Attic, Polaroid, Darkslide, Small Town Killers, and Southern Chillers.

Originally published in 1979, Vc Andrews novel Flowers in the Attic was a smash hit, spawning four sequels and going on to sell over 40 million copies worldwide. With undercurrents of incest and child abuse and a haunting score by Christopher Young (Hellraiser), Flowers in the Attic is a dark and chilling Gothic suspense thriller in the classic tradition.

Numerous actors have occupied the role of Sherlock Holmes over the decades, some more suited to the shoes of author Arthur Conan Doyle's famous consulting detective than others. One of the finest portrayals is that by Ian Richardson. Yet, sadly, his is also one that is often overlooked, not leastways because he played the character just twice (in a pair of 1983 films made for television), but also because his light was to be quickly eclipsed a year later by the arrival on TV screens of Jeremy Brett, whose interpretation of Holmes is considered by many to be the definitive one.

Sy Weintraub – who produced several Tarzan movies throughout the 60s and was executive producer on the popular long-running Ron Ely TV series –teamed up with Otto Plaschkes (whose producer credits include Georgie Girl and The Holcroft Covenant) with the intention of making several Holmes adventures headlining Richardson.

Daniel Barber's "Harry Brown" will provoke justifiable comparisons to 2008's surprise hit "Gran Torino" -- geezer with a past decides to clean his neighborhood of punks -- but in some ways, it feels closer to that winter's other surprise hit "Taken" -- likable actor kills legions of faceless hoods.

Michael Caine is the geezer in question -- a former British soldier who was stationed in Northern Ireland, now widowed and living in a rundown council estate (the UK equivalent of a housing project) that's going to the dogs. Mild-mannered Harry minds his own business, preferring to spend time in his local pub playing chess with his friend Leonard (David Bradley), even as drug transactions and acts of senseless violence increasingly swirl around him. When Leonard is killed, Harry loses it, deciding to take justice into his own hands. And... well, he does.
