Producer Otto W. Retzer later starred in Ein Schloß am Wörthersee (1990) which he also partly directed and which also took place at Lake Wörthersee and was set in the same palace hotel which in this movie is shown as Bittermagen's house. The scenes of the water show were also recreated in the intro of the show. The show was also created by Erich Tomek.
When Otto W. Retzer appears as a Kojak-type detective he is voiced by Edgar Ott, the German voice actor of Telly Savalas, who played Kojak on Kojak (1973). Ironically the real Telly Savalas later appeared in Ein Schloß am Wörthersee (1990) in the episode Ein Glatzkopf kommt selten allein (1991) which was directed by Otto W. Retzer and featured him too and was written by Erich Tomek, like this movie..
In this movie Heinz Schenk is playing a choleric director of a Karl May play complaining about the staff. Later he starred in Kein Pardon (1993) in which he played a choleric TV show host also complaining about the staff.
The plot about seeking 5 pillows with something inside and finding something valuable at the end is taken from the 1927-book "The Twelve Chairs" by Ilja Ilf and Yevgeniy Petrov in which three people are chasing chairs with diamonds in them. In 1997 writer and producer Erich Tomek wrote the screenplay for Mein Opa und die 13 Stühle (1997), another very loose adaptation of the novel. Rainer Basedow also appeared in Rabe, Pilz & dreizehn Stühle (1972), which is also very loosely based on the same novel and, like this movie, was directed by Franz Marischka.
