Anyone who’s ever worked in an office knows what a mind-numbing, soul-sucking experience it can be. And if you haven’t worked in an office, you know someone who has because they’re probably intent on telling you what a depressing bummer it is, day in and day out.
We’ve seen plenty of movies take place in the corporate world, but few of them have ever touched upon the monotony of the experience quite like “Office Space,” Mike Judge’s incisive takedown of cubicles, office managers, and the drudgery of a Nine to Five in a soulless office building. In fact, one needn’t have worked in an office to relate to its characters who search for something meaningful in their boring jobs. Most everyone’s had a job that made them want to slam their head against the wall, and “Office Space” seems dedicated to those of...

Starring Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Dolly Parton, 9 to 5 highlighted issues like sexism, equal pay, and workplace abuse. It follows three secretaries who get revenge on their sexist boss and run the company themselves. Parton’s accompanying song, “9 to 5,” became an anthem for women’s rights and workplace equality and was a great commercial success.

Filming romantic or intimate scenes can be challenging for some actors, a problem often mitigated by the presence of an intimacy coordinator on set. However, it’s a luxury the beloved singer Dolly Parton did not have while filming her debut movie. After making reigns as a singer-songwriter with hits like Jolene and Here You Come Again, Parton embarked on her journey on the silver screen, debuting with the 1980 comedy film 9 to 5.

Following three women office workers who take revenge on their s*xist, egotistical boss by conspiring to run the company more efficiently in his absence, Parton portrayed the role of a secretary Doralee in the film, alongside Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Dabney Coleman. And she has shared that she was nervous to film some of the love scenes opposite her friend’s husband for the film.

While Dolly Parton is primarily a musician, she has acted in her fair share of movies. After her debut film role in Nine to Five, Parton established herself as an actor, picking up critical acclaim and even several awards nominations. Parton enjoyed acting, but some films were more enjoyable than others. She revealed one movie that was a particular joy to make.
Dolly Parton loved working on one movie
Parton starred in a handful of movies and said that her experience varied from set to set. One movie she particularly enjoyed making was not all that popular with critics, but that mattered little to her.
“One movie that was an absolute joy to make was Straight Talk,” she wrote in her book Dolly: My Life and Other Unfinished Business. “I am as proud of it as of anything I have ever done.”
She contributed to the film’s soundtrack, a major high point for her,...

Dolly Parton has always described her husband as handsome, and Jane Fonda apparently agrees. While they were on set for Nine to Five, Parton’s husband, Carl Dean, dropped by. After a bit of flirtatious banter from Fonda, the two began discussing Parton. She said she was incredibly flattered by what her husband said about her.
Dolly Parton’s husband spoke highly about his wife
Dean stopped by the Nine to Five set to visit his wife and to see Fonda. She had been his celebrity crush for years and he wanted to see her in person. They talked for a bit — Fonda apparently thought he was very good-looking — and the conversation eventually became about Parton.
“That day on the set, after talking to Carl, she came over to me and asked, ‘What did Carl mean when he said that you’re an angel?’ I didn’t know what he had said,...

Dolly Parton and her husband, Carl Dean, have been married for decades, but that hasn’t stopped either of them from having crushes. For years, rumors have swirled about Parton’s alleged affairs, and she wrote “Jolene” about an interaction her husband had with a bank teller. Parton revealed that her husband has always harbored a crush on one of her former co-stars.
Dolly Parton shared why her husband has always had a crush on Jane Fonda
While Parton was shooting Nine to Five, she and Fonda spent time discussing men they found attractive. As they spoke, Fonda pointed out a man she found good looking. Parton could hardly keep from laughing when she saw who Fonda had pointed out.
“I was laughing my butt off inside, but biting my lip. The man was my husband, Carl,” Parton wrote in her book Dolly: My Life and Other Unfinished Business, adding,...

The NBC sitcom "Night Court" was a satirical take on the zany and chaotic underworld of the midnight shift at the courthouse. With an unconventional, free-loving judge at the helm of this circus, there's no telling what might happen. The series was such a massive hit that it ran for nine whole seasons, featuring a cast of relatively unknown actors that, when assembled, formed one of the most acclaimed ensembles of all time. The show won eight Primetime Emmys and was nominated no less than 32 times. "Night Court" won in a variety of categories, but the actor that ended up taking home the most gold was John Larroquette, who played egotistical D.A. Dan Fielding.
A "Night Court" reboot landed on NBC in 2023. Sadly, few members of the original cast are still around to reprise their old roles, and the show is comprised almost entirely of new characters. Harry Anderson,...

In 1982, Dolly Parton starred in the musical film The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. While the film was a success — Parton even picked up a Golden Globe nomination for her acting — she did not enjoy her on-set experience. Parton struggled behind the scenes and dealt with problems in her personal life. When reflecting on her work in the film, she felt she needed to apologize for any pain she’d caused anyone on set.
Dolly Parton felt she might have caused pain on the set of ‘The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas’
After thoroughly enjoying her experience acting in 9 to 5, Parton felt let down by The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. While things weren’t perfect on set, she noted that her personal life was the root of much of her dissatisfaction.

Bryan Cranston is clarifying his recent comments about his retirement plans. In a June 8 interview with British GQ, Cranston, 67, explained that he intends to retire in 2026 when he'll be 70. And his retirement won't just be from acting: he also wants to shut down his production company and sell his half of the mezcal tequila company he runs with "Breaking Bad" costar Aaron Paul.
"I want to change the paradigm once again," Cranston told the outlet about his decision, adding his wife, Robin Dearden, is at the center of his choice. "For the last 24 years, Robin has led her life holding onto my tail. She's been the plus one, she's been the wife of a celebrity. She's had to pivot and adjust her life based on mine. She has tremendous benefit from it, but we're uneven. I want to level that out. She deserves it."

“You make billions/pay us some!” striking Writers Guild of America members chanted on the street of New York today near where filming was going on for Showtime’s Billions.
For the second day in a row, scribes showed up at a Big Apple work site for the Wall Street drama.
On Friday afternoon, they picketed a Billions location site at a commercial building in the trendy Manhattan neighborhood of Chelsea. Previously, on May 4, picketers were outside sound stages in Brooklyn and shut down production for several hours on the seventh and final season of the Brian Koppelman, David Levien and Andrew Ross Sorkin. Amid skirmishes with arriving drivers and work crews, Billions cast and crew members decided not to cross the WGA picket lines outside Seret Studios
Unlike Thursday, today’s high profile picketing of Billions did not interrupt filming, we are told. Production on the show continued after the picketers left mid-afternoon NYC-time.

Twelve songs, nine sets, two musical theater-loving pals and a talk show visit: “Soundtrack To A Bromance” won’t be forgotten anytime soon by the superfans of Dear Evan Hansen‘s Ben Platt.
Platt, doing the publicity rounds for his recently released debut album Sing To Me Instead and the launch next month of his first North American tour, opened last night’s The Late Late Show With James Corden on CBS with a mini-musical of a dozen pop hits mashed into duets with Corden.
“Bromance” begins in middle school when the boys meet at a bus stop and break into The White Stripes’ “I Can Tell That We Are Gonna Be Friends.” From there they move – literally, as the duo works its way through nine specially-created studio sets while a camera trails every move – through the milestones of young friendship: high school,...

Tuesday’s Oscar music nominations produced some of the day’s biggest surprises, inevitabilities and near-inevitabilities that still produced a sigh of relief. Some notes on the shocks and happy affirmations in the Best Original Song and Score fields:
1. No “First Man.” That was the biggest shocker of Tuesday’s announcement. Justin Hurwitz, who won song and score Oscars for 2016’s “La La Land,” was widely expected to be among the final five for his music for Damien Chazelle’s moon-landing saga. After all, he already won the Golden Globe and Broadcast Film Critics awards. Clearly the film had lost momentum in the marquee categories, but it was well seen and highly regarded enough to place in four of the Oscars’ technical divisions, leaving Hurwitz’s Mia status all the more mysterious.
2. Terence Blanchard’s first nomination. Sound the trumpets! Blanchard was singled out for his music for Spike Lee’s “BlacKkKlansman,...

Dolly Parton has livened up the Oscar trail this year with her new song “Girl in the Movies,” from the Netflix movie “Dumplin.'” Following a live performance of the song for a select industry crowd (mostly journalists and Golden Globes voters) at the Four Seasons on Monday, the recording icon stopped by a screening of the film with “Dumplin'” star Danielle Macdonald to field questions from the audience.
When told the crowd was primarily Screen Actors Guild Awards voters, Parton gestured to her trademark curves and quipped, “I took care of all my saggin’!”
Parton has previously been Oscar-nominated for “Nine to Five,” from the 1980 song of the same name, and “Travelin’ Thru,” from 2005’s “Transamerica.” This year, the original song race is shaping up to be a star-studded affair, with Warner Bros. submitting three Lady Gaga songs from “A Star is Born,” Kendrick Lamar in the mix with...

“I didn’t think about their age when I was thinking about who they were,” reveals “Grace and Frankie” costume designer Allyson B. Fanger. “I was thinking about who they were, and how they’d express themselves through dress.” Fanger has worked on all four seasons of this Netflix comedy about the title characters who become friends after their husbands (Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston) announce they’re in love with each other. She made a conscious effort not to make Grace or Frankie “look like old ladies,” which “is very in-keeping with the times.” Watch our exclusive video interview with Fanger above.

We have the highlights of what's coming and going from HBO Now and HBO Go in October 2018.
You may or may have not noticed it but HBO's horror options have gotten pretty grim. Not grim as in scary but grim as in incredibly sparse.

The catch is that they'll all be gone by month's end. Not cool! Oh well, it's better than nothing. The Descent will also be arriving at the beginning of the month for a much longer stay.

On the new NBC show Bent (premiering tonight at 9 p.m.), Amanda Peet is a divorced lawyer, David Walton her contractor, and Jeffrey Tambor his unemployed dad, Walter, who inserts himself into their lives because he can't find work as an actor. Walter likes to reminisce about past glories — stints on China Beach, Herman's Head, and Picket Fences — which feels like an inverse of Tambor's career: In the eighties, he was an omnipresent failed-sitcom star (The Ropers, the TV version of Nine to Five) and itinerant guest (The Love Boat, Hill Street Blues), but later in life became a TV-comedy icon on such ahead-of-their-time programs as Max Headroom, The Larry Sanders Show, and Arrested Development, which he'll return to as soon as the new seasons currently planned for Netflix get scripts. (Could that mean he'll have the chance to juggle appearances on Bent and Arrested at the same...
