On September 6, 2020, the first day of principal photography on Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, Tom Cruise drove a motorbike off a mountain. Specifically, he drove a custom-made Honda Crf 250 off a purpose-built ramp on the side of Norway’s Helsetkopen mountain, a vertiginous rock face sat some 1,200 meters above sea level. Then he plunged 4,000 feet into the ravine below before opening his parachute barely 500 feet from the ground.

Mumbai, Feb 10 (Ians) National Award Winning director Sudhanshu Saria recently wrapped up his upcoming young adult show, tentatively titled ‘Masoom’.

Masoom is Amazon Prime Video’s young adult all-girls show, set in a boarding school. It is a multi-part series, shot in and around the queen of hill stations Ooty.

Source added, “There is no break for Saria this year, his production house Four Line Entertainment has already started the production work of LGBTQ+ themed relationship drama titled Taps.”

“He is currently in LA for the North American premiere of his film Sanaa at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. His upcoming directorial venture Ulajh rumoured to star Janhvi Kapoor will go on the floors later this year.”

According to reports, actress Avantika Vandanapu will be starring in the show.

Sudhanshu Saria’s Four Line Entertainment (“Loev”) has partnered with Kashish Arts Foundation and Lotus Visual Production to produce LGBTQ+ themed relationship drama “Taps.”

Written and directed by Arvind Caulagi, “Taps” revolves around a gay relationship in Mumbai. The film received the Kashish QDrishti Film Grant in 2022. The jury picks gay, lesbian and transgender-focused films that are diverse and rooted in real-life experiences. The 2022 jury comprised filmmakers Alankrita Shrivastava and Nupur Asthana, editor Apurva Asrani and producers Chhitra Subramaniam and Neeraj Churi.

Kashish also operates South Asia’s leading LGBTQ+ film festival in Mumbai.

Saria’s 2015 LGBTQ+themed 2015 feature “Loev” had considerable festival play including at SXSW, Tallinn and BFI Flare.

Saria said: “It’s the keenness and providence of the Kashish QDrishti film grant that such a rare screenplay has come our way. I’m honored and delighted to produce ‘Taps,’ a sensitive rendering of urban relationships and longing rarely witnessed on Indian screens.

Owen Roizman, a cinematographer who shot many of the premier films of a generation, has died. He was 86.

A representative for the American Society of Cinematographers confirmed the news. No further details about Roizman’s death are available at this time.

Roizman was Oscar-nominated five times, for “The French Connection,” “The Exorcist,” “Network,” “Tootsie” and 1994 Western “Wyatt Earp.” In 2017, Roizman was honored with an honorary Academy Award for his contributions to the medium.

In addition to his Oscar noms, Roizman was nominated for an Emmy for his cinematography of the 1972 Liza Minnelli variety special “Liza With a Z,” directed by Bob Fosse.

Roizman received the American Society of Cinematographers’ lifetime achievement award in 1997.

He worked with director Sydney Pollack on five films: “Three Days of the Condor,” “The Electric Horseman,” “Absence of Malice,” “Tootsie” and “Havana.”

Updated: Tom Cruise was lauded with a surprise Palme d’Or tonight at the Top Gun: Maverick premiere capping off a big day for the 3x Oscar nominee at the Cannes Film Festival.

The film received a five-minute standing ovation from the crowd.

Prior to receiving the Palme, which wasn’t expected, he was given a tribute reel before the film played. As a prelude, French fighter jets took the sky streaming blue, white and red smoke. The squadron did a second pass before the Top Gun: Maverick star took the stage at the Palais.

The sold-out crowd at the Grand Palais’ Debussy theater waited in line patiently for an hour under the blazing afternoon sun and could barely contain their impatience as festival director Thierry Fremaux introduced the event. On Sunday, Billy Ray Cyrus will join a cappella group Voices of Service for a special performance during the halftime of the Titans-Chiefs football game at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. After months of a grim drumbeat, Marvel’s message was likely aimed at parents of younger fans who might have fretted about the dour outcome of a superhero movie that, in preview clips, has the emotional tones of a funeral in an ash-covered field on an overcast day. These are already grim days in the real world and the featurette seems to acknowledge that, at some point, true hero movies need moments of heroic uplift.

The message comes across in the promotional video from interviews with cast members and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. The pep talk was led by Chris Evans, who portrays the never-give-up hero Captain America: “They’ve truly leveled us, not just literally but morally and emotionally…the good thing is that it’s always easier to build people back up after they’ve been broken down. That’s what Marvel’s great at doing. It’s that shred of hope that everyone is looking for.”

The featurette also has footage from the upcoming Avengers: Endgame (April 26) as well as scenes from Avengers: Infinity War, the grim, beat-down epic that hit theaters last April and finished as 2018’s top-grossing global release ($2.05 billion worldwide). The movie ended, now infamously, with the tyrannical alien Thanos (Josh Brolin) snapping his fingers and erasing half of the universe’s living organisms, among them Spider-Man (Tom Holland) and Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman).

In the months since the existential dust-up, Marvel fans have reacted with many emotions to the devastating sequence of events. Some, for instance, chided Chris Pratt via social media, others complained that Feige and the Russo Brothers directing tandem had gone too far by wantonly killing off such beloved heroes. Feige addressed that in the new promotional video: “The fans’ reaction to the end of Infinity War, when half their favorite characters turned to dust, really was indicative of how emotionally connected the world has gotten to these characters.”

In actuality, of course, the characters are alive on every toy aisle in America and will remain that way. The film was simply following in the grand tradition of the American comic book industry, which has “killed” every one of its major characters at least once and, in some unlucky cases, three or more times. The notion that Spider-Man might not return from the dead doesn’t hold up too well when you consider a trailer has already been released for his next solo-adventure film, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and the footage contains neither zombies nor angels. It’s also worth noting that Peter Parker was back in action already in Sony’s Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse (or at least he was in the first half of the film…).

The featurette starts to wind down with the space-marooned Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and a line that surely foreshadows a big bounce-back moment in the new film (“I know I said no more surprises but I was really hoping to pull off one last one…”) and it ends with a wink and a smile (via the first meeting of Chris Hemsworth’s mighty Thor and Brie Larson’s even mightier Captain Marvel). It’s a moment that fans are loving. There will be life after Endgame, the exchange reminds us. Will every hero survive the film, which is billed as the climatic chapter for the Marvel Studios saga to date? No, probably not. There’s a good chance, for instance, that Taps might be playing for Captain America) but an on-screen funeral is just career downtime for a hero. n the other side of Boot Hill, after all, is Reboot Pasture.

Following an extensive search, Amazon Studios has tapped Jd Payne and Patrick McKay (Star Trek 4, Jungle Cruise) to develop its forthcoming big-budget take on The Lord of the Rings. Cruise was feted Wednesday night on the third day of Cinemacon, the National Association of Theater Owners’ annual convention in Las Vegas. The pioneer of the year award is given to a member of the motion picture community to honor professional leadership, service, and commitment to philanthropy.

The writer-director-producer had a hand in creating million-dollar tentpoles out of Transformers and Star Trek, in addition to scripting the second installment in The Amazing Spider-Man series. The Peacock Net made recent buzz official Wednesday by announcing it will broadcast a live staging of Aaron Sorkin’s play in early 2017.

Sorkin’s 1989 play — which was later adapted as a feature film starring Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson — follows military lawyer Lt. Daniel Kaffee as he defends three Marines in a murder trial.
