Lady Gaga pulling strings behind the scenes to make Diddy’s legal team abandon ship? Now that’d be a music industry power move for the ages. Rumor has it that Mother Monster flexed her influence to send Diddy scrambling for new legal representation. The idea of Gaga, known for her boundary-pushing artistry, quietly making her mark on courtroom drama’s the kind of tea that fans love to sip.

Whether it’s true or not, it’s fun to imagine a world where pop divas don’t just rule the stage but also have the power to shake up the legal world. A little too wild? Maybe. But in Gaga’s universe, anything is possible.

Gaga has opened up about the meaning behind the lyrics.
“I am wrestling, on that record, with a lot of feelings about so much that I’ve been through as an artist, everything I went through growing up in the public eye, and the industry since I was a teenager,” she told Apple Music. “One of the lyrics is, ‘I’m acting in this play of comedy with tragic words. The audience was smiling, cheering on a scene, absurd.’ I was thinking about when women play these broken characters in music or in films or theater,...

Lady Gaga joined Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday night (October 1st) to promote her upcoming role as Harley Quinn in Joker: Folie à Deux and her new companion album, Harlequin. During her appearance, Gaga channeled her character while performing “Happy Mistake” and sat down for an interview with the late night host.
Gaga stepped on the stage in a flowy white dress and matching heels to belt out the ballad. Initially standing on a slightly elevated platform, the artist came down to join the backing band and put her entire soul into the song, even falling to her knees. It was another case of Gaga’s live performance topping the studio recording, showing why she has one of the most powerful voices in pop music today.

Todd Phillips’ musically infused sequel Joker: Folie à Deux opens this week and is currently not expected to emulate the business of 2019’s Warner Bros movie Joker, which ultimately wound up as the second highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time at $1.07 billion, scoring 11 Oscar nominations and winning two including for Joaquin Phoenix as Best Actor.
As for the sequel, so far worldwide looks better than domestic at $140 million, with a now lower-projected $55M-$60M at 4,000 U.S. theaters with all the tricks of Imax and Plf screens. The original domestic forecast was at $70M+ when it hit three-week tracking.
The first Joker blew past its $80M domestic projection with the highest opening of all time at $96.2M, and outstripped its $155M worldwide forecast with $248.2M (2019 figures unadjusted for inflation and currency swings).
Still, with a net production cost of $190M+, Joker: Folie à Deux‘s expected business at this point isn’t bad for exhibition,...

Five years after the release of the first Joker — which made over $1 billion and won Joaquin Phoenix an Oscar — the sequel has now arrived and is expected to be the end of the supervillain road for writer-director Todd Phillips.
Joker: Folie à Deux sees Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck meeting the love of his life, Harley Quinn (played by Lady Gaga), while incarcerated at Arkham State Hospital and awaiting trial for his crimes as Joker. At the film’s Los Angeles premiere on Monday, Phillips admitted that he was nervous to go out to Gaga for the role, but she was quickly on board.
“I think we sent her half the script, and she texted me pretty quickly that she was really into it, that she loved it and everything you want to hear,” the filmmaker told The Hollywood Reporter. “And then I went out to her house, and we...

Lady Gaga had plenty of inspiration for her upcoming album Harlequin.
The Academy Award winner opened up about the “deep experience” she had playing Harleen ‘Lee’ Quinzel (aka Harley Quinn) in Joker: Folie à Deux, explaining how her portrayal of the DC comic book character sparked the companion album.
“This idea of dual identities was always something that was a part of my music making,” she told Apple Music‘s Zane Lowe. “I was always creating characters in my music and when I made Lee for Joker, she just really had this profound effect on me. The film had so much music in it, so much music that I love, and I was able to discover the character through the story, through the music that we did live every day as well as dance and the costumes and the makeup. Not since 2011’s Born This Way has Lady Gaga found a musical project big and brawny enough to contain her penchant for vocal bluster and over-the-top theatricality. But the singer turned actress’s role as Harley Quinn in Todd Phillips’s Joker: Folie à Deux and its companion album, Harlequin, seem to have given her all of the elbow room she needs to let her freak flag fly.
Harlequin, whose title refers to the stock pantomime figure after which Harley Quinn was named, aptly begins with an interpretation of “Good Morning,” originally sung by Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney, whose agile performances captured the heady elation of a romantic all-nighter. Gaga is no Frances Gumm, but she imbues a newly written opening verse with a dewy-eyed wonder. Then, though, she quickly reverts to the kind of mannered affectations that marred her jazz albums with Tony Bennett.

Joker: Folie à Deux is the upcoming sequel to 2019's Joker, a smash hit Batman spinoff starring Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, a mentally ill wretch who becomes Gotham City's clown prince of crime. In Folie à Deux, he'll meet Harley Quinn, the love of his life, and together they will make beautiful, demented music.
Although director Todd Phillips has gone back and forth on whether Folie à Deux is actually a musical or not, there will definitely be singing in it. Pop star Lady Gaga is playing Harley Quinn, after all, and you don't let a set of pipes like those go to waste. Gaga is even releasing a companion album for the movie called Harlequin, to come out on September 27. She dropped a snippet of one song, "The Joker," on social media:

Could you imagine an Oscars ceremony without the glitz, glamour and a heavy dose of pop stardom? Can you imagine the ratings?
Well, the Oscars could get much more musical. This awards season, brace yourself for a “pop star era,” with music icons such as Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez and Ariana Grande all competing to receive acting attention from the Academy Awards, and in the same supporting actress race no less.
Pop stars have long dominated the stage, captivating millions with their music. However, some megastars have proven they can conquer more than the Billboard charts. Take legendary artist Cher, for instance — the “Goddess of Pop” didn’t just give us hits like “Believe,” she also took home an Oscar for best actress for her unforgettable role as Italian widow and bookkeeper Loretta Castorini in the 1987 rom-com classic “Moonstruck.” That crossover has also come from other genre artists.

The odds of Joker ever getting a sequel always seemed slim but, if and when one did happen, the hope was that it might pit Arthur Fleck against a Bruce Wayne who came seeking revenge as Batman.
An exploration of the Caped Crusader's mental health juxtaposed with Arthur's had the potential to be fascinating; instead, Joker: Folie à Deux will explore Joker's twisted relationship with Lee Quinzel, a.k.a. Harley Quinn, within the confines of Arkham Asylum.
Talking to IGN, filmmaker Todd Phillips revealed what he believes Arthur would think about the World's Greatest Detective.
"I think Arthur would be in awe of the alpha male that is Batman. I really do. I think Arthur would look up and appreciate it," he said. "I think he'd be in awe of that.”
"I think Arthur always had a fascination with men at ease, and he is not a man at ease.

If you’re gonna have someone like Lady Gaga star in your movie, it only makes sense to have her contribute, in some way, to the soundtrack. Indeed, when she did A Star is Born, Gaga received a Best Actress Oscar nomination, but she also won the award for her contribution to the soundtrack, “Shallow.” While Joker: Folie a Deux is being called a jukebox musical, in that most of the songs are covers of already existing tracks, Gaga has nonetheless recorded a ton of music inspired by the film and the character she plays (Harleen “Lee” Quinzel aka Harley Quinn), and now has announced a companion album called Harlequin, which is a pretty apropos title.

The track list for “Harlequin” includes renditions of famous hits such as “Oh, When the Saints,” “World on a String,” and “Smile.”
The full list is below:
1. Good Morning
2. Get Happy (2024)
3. Oh, When the Saints
4. World on a String
5. If My Friends Could See Me Now
6. That’s Entertainment
7. Smile
8. The Joker
9. Folie à Deux
10. Gonna Build a Mountain
11. Close to You
12. Happy Mistake

Lady Gaga has announced Harlequin, a companion album to the upcoming film Joker: Folie à Deux. The album is set for release this Friday, September 27th — one week before the movie will open in theaters worldwide on October 4th.
In the Todd Phillips-directed Joker: Folie à Deux, Gaga plays Harley Quinn opposite Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck / the Joker. The film has been described as a jukebox musical, featuring covers of jazz standards like “Get Happy,” “That’s Life,” “Oh, When the Saints,” and Frank Sinatra’s “I’ve Got the World On a String.” All of these songs are included on the tracklist for Gaga’s Harlequin, as are several originals.

Lady Gaga’s next album, Harlequin, will be a companion to Todd Phillips’ Joker: Folie À Deux, which hits theaters Oct. 4.
The album will arrive Friday, Sept. 27. Gaga had been teasing her next album, LG7, for a while, and she dropped hints about the project along with her press schedule at Venice Film Festival. That could still be a separate album, as the first single for that work will arrive at some point in October after the film and ‘Harlequin’ have released.
Before she posted the album cover, which features Gaga with an inflatable live vest beneath a running shower head, Gaga posted five slides that tipped her followers off as to an announcement coming.
Written on the slides are “Still Not October,” “Moondust Gets Everywhere,” “No Ducttape No Mission,” “Don’t Tell Me What To Wear” and “I’m Ready For My Interview.” She also recently released “Die With...

“Harlequin” will be released on Sept. 27 and feature 13 songs. In the lead up to the announcement, Gaga teased fans with posts to Instagram “I’m ready for my interview,” read one post, while another said: “Don’t tell me what to wear.” A third post, which was accompanied by the lone plucking of an acoustic guitar, read: “No duct tape. This Batman article contains spoilers.
Joker continuity is a bit messy by design. Ever since the Clown Prince of Crime declared that he “preferred multiple choice” in Alan Moore and Brian Bolland’s seminal 1988 comic Batman: The Killing Joke, it’s been very tough to nail down just what is true and what isn’t about the villain’s origin story. Was the Joker once a failed comedian who went mad after criminals murdered his family and he fell into a vat of chemicals? Maybe. Or was he originally a crime boss known as the Red Hood? Is his real name actually Jack?
Multiple choice has mostly worked well for the Joker, who is meant to be Gotham’s embodiment of true evil. The fact that his story is indecipherable and ultimately unknowable makes him that much scarier of a threat for Batman. But things are getting a little too convoluted now.

The Bad Batch is the next Star Wars animated series, a direct sequel to The Clone Wars that brings back the colorful characters of Clone Force 99. The series finds elite clone troopers Hunter, Echo, Tech, Wrecker, and Crosshair struggling to fit into the newly-established Empire in the days after the war. While the mutations that made them unique proved to be a boon for the Clone Army of the Republic, the Empire isn’t so welcoming.
A new trailer for the show teases that the titular heroes, whose squad of clone misfits is literally referred to as “the Bad Batch,” will end up at odds with their new masters, specifically Grand Moff Tarkin, who wants them wiped out. True to form, the Bad Batch aren’t about to just stand there and let it happen. It seems that they’re off on a rip-roaring adventure after their fallout with the Empire.

Virgin River ended the run of The Crown in the top spot in Nielsen’s weekly streaming rankings, racking up almost 1.8 billion minutes of viewing from November 30 to December 6.
The show’s 10-episode second season debuted in the latter weeks of 2020 and has risen steadily through the ranks. (See the full top 10 below.)
Netflix said in December it had renewed the romantic drama for a third season, with Zibby Allen and Stacey Farber joining the cast. The series is based on the bestselling Harlequin book series by Robyn Carr. It centers on a nurse practitioner played by Alexandra Breckenridge, who moves to the remote California town of Virgin River and finds that life there isn’t as simple as she expected.

Exclusive: Orlando Jones has booked a recurring role opposite Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba in the second season of Spectrum’s L.A.’s Finest.
This is Jones’ first TV series casting following his two seasons on Starz’s American Gods as trickster god Anansi, aka Mr. Nancy. Jones made headlines recently, claiming he was fired ahead of Season 3 and alleging racial bias. Series producer Fremantle has insisted that Jones was not fired, but that the company decided not to pick up a third-season option on his contract because of the narrative focus of the upcoming season.
Union, who made her own headlines late last year with her controversial firing from the Fremantle-produced NBC reality series America’s Got Talent, triggering an investigation, was among the first to reach out to Jones after he revealed his ouster from American Gods on social media.

Harmony is an ideal. If everyone just got along, the world could be one big campfire sing-along, a Coke commercial writ large, right? But unfortunately that’s not human nature; certainly not as it pertains to our fellow earthly citizens, or to the globe itself. The ‘70s saw the rise of the eco horror film; “Mother Nature’s back, and she’s pissed” practically emblazoned across posters from the likes of Frogs (1972), Phase IV (1974), and Day of the Animals (1977). Australia threw their hat in the ring at the tail end of the cycle with Long Weekend (1979), a fascinating look at environmental and personal disharmony.
Produced by the Australian Film Commission and the Victorian Film Corporation, and premiering at the 1978 Sitges Film Festival, Long Weekend was released in its native land and the U.S in March of ’79, and didn’t do much business at either end. Perhaps audiences were expecting something a little more visceral,...

Antony I. Ginnane has long been concerned about what he regards as a high level of film illiteracy among many writers, producers and directors, both established and emerging.
And the veteran producer/distributor believes that even among those filmmakers who are steeped in screen history, some have little or no knowledge of the countless classic films produced in the decades before the 1970s.
That.s part of the motivation for Ginnane.s new book, The Unusual Suspects: 104 Films That Made World Cinema, which Currency Press is launching next month.
His eclectic choices range from D.W. Griffith.s Way Down East (1920) through to Quentin Tarantino.s Kill Bill Volume 1 (2003).
Omitting any title produced after 2003, he explains, does not suggest that no great films had been made since then, but rather that the grammar of cinema had already been laid down.
He is quick to point out his list, which includes Alfred Hitchcock.s Vertigo,...

Prolific screenwriter Everett De Roche, who died in Melbourne yesterday, was one of the instigators of the Ozploitation genre movement of the 1970s and 80s.
The Us-born writer, who migrated to Australia with his wife in 1968, was 67. He had battled with cancer for three years. He started as an in-house writer for Crawfords for four years in the 1970s, penning episodes of Homicide, Division 4, Ryan and Matlock Police.
His first feature screenplay was Colin Eggleston.s Long Weekend in 1978. Among his film credits were Richard Franklin.s Patrick (1978), Simon Wincer.s Harlequin (1980), Franklin.s Roadgames (1981), David Hemmings. Race to the Yankee Zephyr (1981), Russell Mulcahy.s Razorback (1984) and Franklin.s Visitors (2003).
In 2008 he and director Jamie Blanks collaborated on a remake of Long Weekend, for which he added two characters, a baby dugong and several scenes. "The basic environmental message works as well today as it did in 1978," he said.
