The story of two young music students (they meet, she gets pregnant, they marry, he has an affair with an opera diva...) is nothing to write home about in originality, but the actors and some very witty lines save the day and more. Brodin and Ekborg are charmingly innocent in many ways, but not too much as they show in two very different ways. Brodin is a bit whiny in the beginning, yet as soon as she discover that she has talents in more ways than one (singing), she soon exploits them to her advantage. But it's the older actors that has more to work with and grab this opportunity with relish! Pettersson and Löwenadler are simply a hoot as Brodins parents, arguing about almost everything in a very funny way, and it is Löwenadler who gets the best lines, like when Brodin is telling them that she was accepted at the academy and Pettersson claims "Like I said, she inherited her voice from me", Löwenadler answers back with "Don't scare the poor child!". Dahlbeck has a field day with her diva part, hamming it up where it's appropriate and to great effect. Her final lines, delivered like she was in a Shakespeare play, are a hoot! This movie is very entertaining while it lasts and some parts of it may linger in your mind afterwards, but on the whole it is to lightweight to be really memorable.
