Chester (Chesty) O'Connor : [snags Gladys' arm at the naval shipyard] I phoned you this morning, they told me you checked out and gone to Frisco.
Gladys Hawkins : So what.
Chester (Chesty) O'Connor : Well, you're not makin' much headway.
Gladys Hawkins : Mmm, I don't know, I'm doin' alright.
Chester (Chesty) O'Connor : Are yuh? From the looks of your kisser, his aim was awful bad. Who is it?
Gladys Hawkins : A gentleman.
[checks mirror in purse and dabs lipstick off of her chin]
Gladys Hawkins : And he's awful nice.
Chester (Chesty) O'Connor : Oh, I get it. I don't have to have a house fall on me. So we're washed up, huh? Through?
Gladys Hawkins : Funny, huh, how quick you catch on.
Chester (Chesty) O'Connor : Who is it, that guy Martin?
Gladys Hawkins : Maybe.
Chester (Chesty) O'Connor : Well, listen, I'm startin' out right now to catch up, and when I do, it's gonna be too bad.
Gladys Hawkins : Hmm, you're pretty safe making cracks like that with him on the water.
Chester (Chesty) O'Connor : What water?
Gladys Hawkins : He just left on the Arizona for San Pedro.
Chester (Chesty) O'Connor : Well, even so - I'm just showin' up to join the Navy to get even with him.
Gladys Hawkins : They only want *men* in the Navy.
Chester (Chesty) O'Connor : Oh yeah? Well, look here, twist. When I catch up with that guy Martin, the Navy's gonna know they made a mistake in takin' him in for a man.
Gladys Hawkins : Ha!
