A LITTLE MURDER TO TELL YOU ABOUT...
1 August 2024
For all us mystery buffs, there's lots of history to this fabulous episode. It's an early story from the award winning team of Richard Levinson and William Link, famous for COLUMBO, also creators of MANNIX. It's interesting to see how they put this script together, and with shades of some outstanding writing yet to come.

Hitch could not have chosen two better leads; his old pal, James Mason (NORTH BY NORTHWEST) and popular actress Angie Dickinson. They make a very intriguing team. I agree with the last reviewer, Levinson and Link borrowed from the James M. Cain (POSTMAN ALWAYS RINGS TWICE) school of mystery, all about getting rid of somebody's husband, the sooner the better...

Mason plays a writer named Warren Barrow who sends some tape recorded "ideas" for a new story to his publisher -- which turn out to be more than just a story idea. Complicating matters is the appearance of beautiful, young Angie Dickinson (Janet West), definitely the femme fatale of the tale, who just happens to have a retiring husband she would like to get rid of. What a tangled web they weave a la Hitchcock.

James Mason is always a treat, also look for veteran actor Roland Winters (CHARLIE CHAN) as Mr. West. Another Hitch favorite, deep voiced Arnold Moss plays Victor. Moss, without too much surprise, was a network radio announcer for years. Excellent direction by Alf Kjellen, who when not playing bad guys himself, cranked out some memorable tv episodes.

SEASON 1 EPISODE 5 remastered. Note the dvd box set from Universal was produced in Europe and may not play on American made dvd players. Best to check with the seller concerning Region 2 dvds.
