22 September 2023
Four girls meet in Madrid while asking for donations for the Red Cross. They are Julia (Luz Márquez), Isabel (Mabel Karr), Paloma (Concha Velasco) and Marion (Katia Loritz), four girls from Madrid belonging to different social classes, are preparing to apply for the Red Cross on Flag Day. The four kind-hearted women will be sought after by as many young people at the time and in very different circumstances. They are girls from different social backgrounds who become close friends through their volunteer work touring Madrid for the Red Cross. Along the way, the four girls realize that they are being united by the same great aspiration. Finally at a party they find again previous loves are remade or some new ones. The couples that are formed are as follows: Katia Loritz and Arturo Fernandez, Mabel Karr and famous footballer Ricardo Zamora, usual couple: Concha Velasco with Tony Leblanc and Luz Marquez with Antonio Casal who plays a botcher doctor.

A routine fillm of Spanish cinema, Madrid comedy of manners and a sample of the good work of our main and supporting cast. Nice, silly, topical but very pleasant with its fits and starts. Typical pre-developmental comedy, in which a series of Hollywood models were adapted with some skill and sympathy, but in ordinary way . The whole film results to be as nice as it is limited in its silly and predictable situations. Amusing, but mediocre comedy about some young women, during the Red Cross day, that make friends themselves, while collecting money for the Red Cross. They are from different social classes, rich and poor, but for a common cause they become very close friends while they intend to marry a handsome man. Of course, along the way they flirt, argue with their boyfriends, and meet new sweethearts. The main cast includes top-notch actors such as: Concha Velasco, Tony Leblanc, Antonio Casal, Luz Márquez, Katia Loritz, Arturo Fernández and Mabel Karr who married Fernando Rey . Of course, the main distraction of the movie is guessing which notorious secondary characters will appear in the next frame, they include the following: Ángel Ter, Raúl Cancio, Milo Quesada, José María Lado, Francisco Bernal, Mercedes alonso, Manuel Arbó, Barta Barri, Erasmo Pascual, Luis Sánchez Polack, Mara Laso, Carmen Porcel, Jesús Puente, Vicky Lagos, Rafael Hernández, Ángel Menéndez, Antonio Molino Rojo, Lorenzo Robledo, among others.

Las chicas de la Cruz Roja(1958) stands out the colorful cinematography in brilliant Technicolor by Alejandro Ulloa who had a prestigious career as one of the greatest Spanish cameramen. The motion picture was professional but middlingly written and directed by Rafael J. Salvia , he was born in 1915 in Tortosa, Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain and died in Madrid 1976. He was a prolific writer and director, being especially known for Las chicas de la Cruz Roja (1958), La gran familia (1962) and El Judas (1952). Salvia wrote and shot a lot of films with penchant for comedies . As he directed the following ones : Proceso a una estrella , La cesta , Isidro el labrador , Una tal Dulcinea, La gran familia , Festival en Benidorm , Vida sin risas , Días de feria , Nacido para la música , Las chicas de la Cruz Roja , El puente de la paz , Pasaje a Venezuela and two successful pictures starred by Manolo Morán : Manolo, guardia urbano and ¡ Aquí hay petróleo . Rating : 5/10. So-so film, exclusively for fans of Spanish cinema from the fifties with its luminous actors and actresses.
