Two empires struggle in Mechs they don't fully understand. One for land and power using revisionist history to motivate the rank and file and the other empire just to hold on to what remains and try for peace.
The overall story and character falling into traditional archetypes but have enough unique to make them interesting.
Longer episode runtimes give the story more depth and makes each episode a bit more engrossing.
My only wish is more time was spent on the Mecha design and use, but not every anime can have the attention to detail Knight's & Magic" showed.

Pros:
- Dark, vibrant and clean animation.
- Nice epic scale and longer episodes give a more engrossing feel.
- Brutal battles, especially the final episodes.
- Not everyone gets along, infighting among allies is realistic.
- Broad scope of characters which have a little more depth than normal.
- The "evil" Empires motivations and brainwashing was a nice touch.
- Well scored music that helps set the tone.
- English Dubbing.
Cons:
- Some stilted dialog in early episodes (English Dubbing).
- Protagonist whines a lot in early episodes and has an unusually "young" sounding voice (English Dubbing).
- Unusually developed 12 year old (Cleo) without an explanation why the Athens Empires children develops quickly (just bugged me).
- Protagonist makes very bad choices, repeatedly, and never seems to learn.
