Review of Quizmania

Quizmania (2005–2007)
One of the Best Game Shows around
28 February 2006
This is one of those programmes you start to watch for a while and it starts to suck you in. Quizmania is a very professional, Funny, highly addictive game show that is on the SKY Digital satellite Channel (UK & Ireland) on Sky Channel number 139 (Life Showcase) starting at 9PM (UK Time) every evening (UPDATE 1st APRIL 2006 - No longer available on this channel) and just recently has been broadcasting on the UK ITV1 Channel at around 12 Midnight or 1am and some nights carries on until 5am!!

(UPDATE 1st APRIL 2006 - No Longer on ITV1, Now on ITV2)

Made by Fremantle Media (Who also produce the popular show 'The X-Factor' in the UK) and has a very good selection of presenters who are all most enjoyable to watch and help the show make it as popular and as entertaining as it is. Watch out for zany Greg Scott (or Greggles) as he likes people to call him, he used to be a warm up man for the audience for popular TV shows in the UK before they went onto the air. He is a very witty man and also quick and sharp with his wit - he is a favourite with a lot of callers into the show but don't get me wrong there is more to the show than just his presenting and the other presenters are equally as entertaining.

About the Programme. Well its a game show shown on Television with Cash prizes on offer Sometimes early on in the evening the most you might win is 300.00 UK Pounds the least you could win is 50.00 UK Pounds. Sometimes there is a tower game which require you (the phone caller to the show)to fill in a blank word or name a popular type of fruit say, the easy answers are normally placed at the bottom of the board and are worth around 50 pounds and as the answers get more up to the top of the board the answers can be quite obscure at the top of the board but this reflects in you getting a substantial cash prize.

When the show 'transfers' to ITV1 at Midnight* the cash prizes get much larger and normally if you answer a question right the presenter will lead you to a plasma TV screen with a cheque with 5000.00 UK pounds and 2 blank spaces at the end of the cheque (the pence) if the caller gives the correct amount of the pence they win the 5000 Pounds on top of what they have already won.

*(UPDATE 1st APRIL 2006 - Now Broadcasts on ITV2 from 1AM Every Night)

To play along callers are encouraged to phone into the show (number up on the screen) and be over 18 to play. Calls cost 60pence whether the caller is selected or not to go through to the studio and speak to the presenter who is live on screen and give them a correct answer and win the cash. Callers who phone up go into a pool with other callers if they are Lucky enough to be chosen they will be asked (by an automated answering device) to hold on the telephone line whilst you get transferred straight through to the studio and speak directly with the presenter who is currently presenting the show on screen. Thats it, directly through to the studio if you are successful, no speaking to an operator or anyone first.

Along the show the presenters will tell jokes, and chat with the camera operators and also read emails from viewers that email into Quizmania and also show photos that viewers have emailed in of themselves. Every now and again the camera crew will step away from operating the camera's to have a bit of banter with the presenter (look out for a camera operator called Flash, he is on some nights) he is crazy and in his spare time he is a lead singer in his own rock group called King Lizzard. You get the feeling that everyone is one great big happy family working together there, well thats what it comes across as when you are watching the show.

This Quizmania game show has really taken off big time in the UK with its show getting longer and longer through the night on ITV1 - and you can find out why if you start watching it for around 15 minutes and start shouting out your answers at the TV screen and you want to stick with the show to see the remaining answers you can find yourself getting hooked when you should be going to bed. You find yourself staying awake throughout the night watching this game show and indeed every now and again you will get the presenters ask the callers what they are doing up so late and they will say that since Quizmania started that they cannot break off from watching it when they should be asleep! Every now and again you could get someone who wins 2 grand at 4am in the morning and the caller lets out a subdued yelp of excitement and the presenter will ask them to contain their excitement but the caller will say that they cant shout because the other half and the kids are fast asleep in bed or if they shout they will wake up the next door neighbours!! I strongly recommend if you have not seen this show yet to try and tune in and get to watch it you will feel the same as me that its a very enjoyable show, very well and cleverly done with very enjoyable funny presenters.

Andy.
