It's a Wonderful Life is a surprisingly good film, that doesn't feel particularly dated. It's a little slow at times, but it's particularly heartfelt. It's sort of like a modern day Christmas Carol, if the modern day was set 85 years ago.
It's quite satisfying hearing the segment of when he's talking to his wife, and states "I want to build bridges, I want to build skyscrapers 100 stories high". His degree of optimism is simply inspiring, and you can't help but get drawn into me, and really root for him.
The point of It's a Wonderful Life can be summarised by a Bob Marley quote. "Some people are so poor, all they have is money". The main antagonist is constantly shown to be quite poor, due to his benevolent nature, whereas Potter is very selfish, and yet all he has is money. In the end, the main antagonist wins, as when he loses his money, the community helps out. The message is ultimately about not losing one's self to greed, or losing one's sense of self.
