Garci has said on several ocassions that the Academy leaked him, days after the 1985 Oscars ceremony, that."Asignatura Aprobada" had lost the award of best foreign film by only two votes. His film, with a title that is related with his first film "Asignatura pendiente" but with a plot closer to oscar winner "Volver a Empezar", has all the ingredients of his concerns and interests. Nostalgy, writing, divorce, lost loves, friendship, pop culture, Asturias, emotional monologues and wanderings, death or classical music. Because Jesus Puente role, main character, is once again a Garci image, and the story is his own. If the films "Cancion de cuna" o "El Crack" are probably his most well-rounded, Asignatura Aprobada would be his best film about him, and the last one to take place in the age when it was shot.
