‘SNL’ Taps Timothée Chalamet to Serve as Both Host and Music Guest, First Non-Pro Singer in 30 Years
In the 50-year history of NBC’s Saturday Night Live, only 41 people have ever been invited by Lorne Michaels to serve as both host and musical guest on the same night, including icons like Paul Simon, Ray Charles, Elton John, Britney Spears and Taylor Swift. Of them, only four have been non-professional singers or musicians, the most recent example coming some 30 years ago: Lily Tomlin, on Nov. 22, 1975 and Jan. 22, 1983; Desi Arnaz, on Feb. 21, 1976; Gary Busey, on March 10, 1979; and Deion Sanders, on Feb. 18, 1995.
On Jan. 25, you will be able to add Timothée Chalamet to that list. The star of the hit new Bob Dylan drama A Complete Unknown, in which he impressively sings dozens of Dylan’s songs himself, has been invited to Studio 8H at 30 Rock to serve in that dual role. Scottish actor Rory McCann, best known for playing the burly brute The Hound on HBO’s Game of Thrones, will replace late actor Ray Stevenson for a second season of Star Wars show Ahsoka, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Stevenson played the hulking former Jedi known as Baylan Skoll in the Disney+ series. He died after a brief illness in May 2023, three months before the series premiered. The actor was a fan favorite, thanks to his resonant voice, humor and roles in Punisher: War Zone, the Thor movies and TV’s Rome.
Ahsoka stars Rosario Dawson as another former Jedi, the titular Ahsoka Tano, who teams with a former apprentice in order to stop the evil Empire from reforming. Two obstacles in her path were Skoll and his apprentice, Shin Hati, played by Ivanna Sakhno.
It is unclear when the new season is to begin shooting or who will be directing.

The Young and the Restless star Eric Braeden is one of the thousands who have lost homes to the ongoing spate of wildfires in Southern California. Braeden saw the remains of his Pacific Palisades residence of 45 years as he and Entertainment Tonight’s Kevin Frazier visited the actor’s neighborhood this week. “Forty-five years, man,” he told Frazier as he saw the destruction. “I didn’t think it would hit me this much, man. … I’m devastated, man. I’m devastated. All the memories. I don’t want my family to see this. … Boy, obviously you’ve seen a lot of coverage on television over the last few days, and I never imagined this. I really didn’t ever imagine this. … It’s such a feeling of loss, man. It’s indescribable. It leaves you totally disoriented.” Braeden also likened the decimation to that of World War II, which he witnessed as a young boy.

Weslie, 16 — Holker’s daughter from a previous relationship, whom Boss later adopted — refuted assertions that Holker called Boss a drug addict. “My mom never said that Stephen was an addict,” Weslie said, as seen in clips shared by The Shade Room on Instagram. “But when you have two years after somebody committed suicide to sit here and question every interaction you had, every single thing they did, obviously my mom’s like, maybe I should have paid more attention…” Weslie also explained why her mom asked Boss’s loved ones to sign NDAs after his death. “My mom asked for NDAs to be signed when we were seeing Stephen’s body, because God forbid somebody that went to...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Way Home Season 3 Episode 2 “The Way We Were.”] Are Kat (Chyler Leigh) and Elliot (Evan Williams) finally figuring out their relationship on The Way Home? That certainly seems to be the case in Season 3, and in the second episode, “The Way We Were” — also the name of a great movie, by the way, do watch it if you haven’t — they make a big decision about their future. It’s been a lot of one step forward, two steps back, but that’s now changed. The two are very much together, and in this episode, Elliot asks her to move in. After apologizing for what she said earlier — while worried about her daughter Alice (Sadie Laflamme-Snow), she (understandably) told him she didn’t want to take care of him, too, if he jumped into the pond with her — she said yes! “For Kat to take this next step is...

Talk about a comeback king. Drew Goins is officially one of Jeopardy!‘s 2025 Second Chance champions! Goins admitted to TV Insider that at the end of the first of the two-game finals, he was getting “absolutely dog-walked,” as his younger brother, Zach, phrased it. “I went back into the green room in between the games as we were changing, and I said, ‘Well, congratulations, Enzo. Good luck in Champions Wildcard whatever, whatever.’ It took a real ‘what do I have to lose?’ mentality going into the second game to make up that ground. It’s only because I just kind of went full send that I was able to pull it off.” And he did just that. Entering Final Jeopardy, the fan favorite led the pack with 18,400 against Sam Cameron’s 16,600 and Enzo Cunanan’s 3,000. The Weeknd Aka Abel Tesfaye is reflecting on the tumultuous production and controversial reception to “The Idol.”
The 2023 HBO series starred Tesfaye as a sleazy club owner turned music manager who becomes entangled in the life of a pop star (Lily-Rose Depp). Sam Levinson co-created the series with Tesfaye.
Tesfaye told Variety that a scheduling overhaul in production led to him balancing an international music tour with filming the show.
“I just think it was the last straw, man,” Tesfaye said of the change. “There was a lot of self-imposed pressure: flying to L.A. between concerts, getting into character, shooting, and then flying back for the next show.”
After the series wrapped and Tesfaye later lost the use of his singing voice temporarily, he said that he “knew that I really needed to sit the fuck down and figure out my life, to understand what happened, face it, learn something new and start again.

Spencer Treat Clark’s family home burnt down in the Eaton fire in Altadena, Calif.
“We have had so many friends and family reach out,” Clark tells Variety over the phone. “I’ve been in this town for 15 years and feel grateful for the friends I’ve made, and so we’re leaning on that big time right now.”
The actor, who has appeared in films like “Gladiator” (2000), “Glass” (2019) and “Salem’s Lot” (2024), had just spent Thursday morning rummaging through the remnants of his family’s house. While surveying what used to be home, he found a sake glass shaped like his dog,...

Giant worms, political betrayals, a shadowy religious order ruled by mysterious women, and a ton of sand. That’s the story of Dune, an epic sci-fi saga about two noble houses that seek to control the production of spice, an extremely valuable psychedelic substance found only on the planet Arrakis.
When 2024’s Dune: Part Two begins, the message is clear: “Power over spice is power over all.” The film picks up where its 2021 predecessor Dune ended, with House Harkonnen and House Atreides fighting for control of Arrakis, while the Fremen people native to the desert planet seek liberation from the outsiders who ravage their lands. Meanwhile, the Bene Gesserit, a holy order of women who have quietly been working to gain control over the galaxy, have their own agenda to bring forth the Kwisatz Haderach, a super-being with the power to hold the universe’s collective memory and lead humanity...

On Friday’s (January 10) new live episode of The View, the cohosts started the hour by talking about the memorial service for former President Jimmy Carter, which was attended by all five living presidents and some of their spouses — Bill and Hillary Clinton, George and Laura Bush, Barack Obama (Michelle Obama was absent), Donald and Melania Trump, and Joe and Jill Biden — as well as some of the vice presidents — Dan Quayle, Al Gore, Mike Pence (with wife Karen), and Kamala Harris (with Doug Emhoff). “I couldn’t take my eyes off of the body language,” Joy Behar said before showing a much-seen moment in which Trump made Obama laugh. “It looks like Trump is asking Obama which country the Panama Canal was in!… I wish I was a fly on Mike Pence. I would have liked to have really seen what was going on, but I didn’t have any sound.

“I don’t know if there are any good decisions he could have made in Season 2,” Gabriel Basso admits of his Night Agent character, Peter Sutherland. That’s an understatement: In Season 1, all he was supposed to do was answer a phone and help the agent on the other end. A call from civilian Rose (Luciane Buchanan), after her aunt and uncle were attacked, threw him headfirst into a conspiracy that went all the way to the White House. After he saved the president (Kari Matchett), he was offered the job on the other side of the Night Action program (off-the-books investigations involving national security). Now, in Season 2 (January 23 on Netflix), he’s a night agent. His first mission takes him to Bangkok, Thailand, and then New York, for a threat that could wipe out Manhattan. By filming on location, “we were able to get away with more cinematic, wider,...

Vince McMahon to Pay $400,000 Fine to Settle SEC Charges Over Hush-Money Payments He Made as WWE CEO
The SEC announced Friday that it settled charges against Vince McMahon, former CEO of WWE, that he made personal payments that “circumvented WWE’s system of internal accounting controls” and caused “material misstatements” in the company’s 2018 and 2021 financial statements.
McMahon consented to the entry of the SEC’s order finding that he violated the Securities Exchange Act by “knowingly circumventing WWE’s internal accounting controls and that he directly or indirectly made or caused to be made false or misleading statements to WWE’s auditor,” the agency said. “Without admitting or denying the SEC’s findings,” McMahon agreed to cease-and-desist from violating those provisions,...

It’s not just the animals that take center stage on PBS’s All Creatures Great and Small. In the fifth season of Masterpiece’s positively poignant British dramedy, based on veterinarian James Herriot’s beloved books, the humans are stepping outside their usual roles as World War II continues to impact the pastoral Yorkshire community of Darrowby in 1941. For executive producer Debbie O’Malley, who wrote two of the season’s seven episodes, that presented a challenge. “The things people love about the show are the warmth and the humor and the sense of community,” she says. “We wanted to preserve all of that but also not do a disservice to the very real hardships and sacrifices that people made.” Two of Skeldale House’s animal docs already have left to serve their country: Tristan (Callum Woodhouse) in the Royal Army Veterinary Corps, and James (Nicholas Ralph) as the pilot...

Morning Joe hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski are getting fresh backlash over their controversial meeting with President-elect Donald Trump in November, this time directly from one of their own regular guests. On Friday’s (January 10) episode of the MSNBC news program, former chairman of the Republic National Committee, Michael Steele, challenged the hosts on their argument that people should “be civil” to Trump as he prepares to return to the White House later this month. Steele, who serves as a co-host on MSNBC’s The Weekend, tried to make his point only to be talked over by Scarborough, who clearly took issue with what his co-worker had to say. “Joe, you had your moment; let me just finish my point,” Steele said. “I’m telling you something you seem to forget, so let me make my point. You may not like it, but I’m going to make it.

After almost 30 years as a co-host on The View, Joy Behar is practically a part of the furniture on the long-running ABC daytime talk show. However, there was almost a reality where the comedian never accepted the job. Speaking on the latest episode of The View‘s Behind the Table podcast, Behar told the show’s executive producer, Brian Teta, that her agent initially advised her not to accept the gig back in 1997. “When I got this job — when was it? 1997? — I was sort of on the cusp of getting a sitcom. I had been in a sitcom already, and I’d done a pilot,” Behar said, per People. She was referring to the short-lived NBC sitcom Baby Boom, an adaptation of the 1987 film of the same name, which aired from November 2, 1988, to July 13, 1989. Behar had a recurring role in the series as Helga Von Haupt. Following the show’s cancelation,...

After Fallon shared before-and-after photos of where his guest was living, Lee acknowledged that “some people are going to be mad at me” for mining his tragedy, one of thousands in the Los Angeles area this week,...

Hoda Kotb officially said goodbye to the Today show with her final episode on Friday, January 10. It was an emotional morning for the news anchor, who was joined by daughters Haley, 8, and Hope, 5, for part of the broadcast. Earlier in the show, co-host Savannah Guthrie teamed up with the control room to have some fun with Kotb. “We’re back at 7:30. It’s Friday morning, and it’s a day of mixed emotions as we get ready to say goodbye to an icon here at 30 Rock,” Guthrie said during the first hour of the broadcast. Of course, Kotb and viewers thought she was talking about the icon’s last day, as she continued, “Let’s face it. All around the world we’ll be counting down to it.” However, the cameras then panned to the famous Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree and Guthrie laughed as she added, “Yes, our beloved...

Venu Sports, the planned sports-centric streaming service that was a joint venture from ESPN (Disney), Fox, and Warner Bros. Sorry about that whole thing, Venu staff, especially you, CEO Paul Distad.
