Born in the small town of Mutare in the east of Zimbabwe, Thea grew up on a farm and attended private boarding school up until the age of sixteen. After the political uprisings in Zimbabwe, she then relocated to an international school in Struer, Denmark, where she discovered her passion for comics and animation. She went on to study at The Animation School, a tertiary institution based in Cape Town, South Africa, where she received a full scholarship and was awarded the 2012 Mzansi Film Festival Grand Prize in the Short Film category as the Best Short Film, as well as other awards for Best Character Animation, Outstanding Technical Achievement, and Best Visual Execution for her team's graduation film. A move to France in 2018 found her working for Paris based 2D animation Studio La Cachette, with whom she has worked on an episode for the first season of Netflix's Love, Death & Robots, and then later the Emmy and Annie Award winning Adult Swim series 'Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal.'
