The fate of American Auto is still up in the air, but NBC has confirmed the fate of half-hour comedies Grand Crew and Young Rock. Grand Crew, starring Echo Kellum, Nicole Byer, Aaron Jennings, Justin Cunningham, Carl Tart, and Grasie Mercedes, is closing shop after just two seasons. The third season of Young Rock – based on the life of Dwayne Johnson and starring/executive produced The Rock – is the series’ final season, as NBC has opted not to renew the comedy for season four.
Filling one of the now vacated primetime slots will be St. Denis Medical, a new mockumentary-style comedy that’s just been given a series order by the network. NBC’s announcement of the scheduling moves included this description of the new show: “A mockumentary about an underfunded, understaffed...

NBC has yet to make decisions about three of its comedies.
American Auto, Grand Crew and Young Rock all remain on the bubble after the network unveiled its fall schedule with these three shows absent from fall and midseason.
NBC said “decisions are yet to be made” on the trio.
American Auto comes from Superstore creator Justin Spitzer. The series premiered its second season in January and it ended its 13-episode run in April.
Starring Ana Gasteyer, Harriet Dyer and Jon Barinholtz, American Auto hails from Spitzer and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment. Written by Spitzer, American Auto is set at the headquarters of a major American automotive company in Detroit, where a floundering group of executives try to rediscover the company identity amidst a rapidly changing industry.
Harriet Dyer, Humphrey Ker, Michael B. Washington, Tye White and X Mayo also star.
Spitzer executive produces via his Spitzer Holding Company with Kapital’s Kaplan.

TV can give viewers false expectations of adult friendship. How many people who watched “Friends” or “Living Single” or “New Girl” got into shenanigans nearly as often as the characters? But Phil Augusta Jackson, creator of NBC’s “Grand Crew,” he swears it’s based on his own friend group and the wine bar where they hung out… with a few liberties taken.
“When you have a hangout show like this, what we’re showing are the moments that they get to spend time together,” Jackson told IndieWire via Zoom. “They’re always at the bar, multiple times an episode, and that doesn’t necessarily feel like real life as far as the actual frequency. It can start to feel like they just, like, live at this place… but that’s what you have to do for storytelling.”

With great power comes great responsibility, and that might be something that Sherm (Carl Tart) and Wyatt (Justin Cunningham) need to keep in mind in the April 7 episode of Grand Crew. In “Wine & Roasts,” Wyatt doesn’t know how to roast, so Sherm agrees to teach him… but in this matter, there is such thing as going too far. Elsewhere, Noah (Echo Kellum) tries to make things right with a disgruntled customer, Nicky (Nicole Byer) dates a sleep talker, and, of course, there’s wine. Tart previews the roast and teases what else is coming up for Sherm. On a scale of one to 10, where are Sherm and Wyatt’s roasting skills at the beginning of the episode? Carl Tart: Sherm’s roasting skills are 10. Wyatt’s roasting skills are probably 0.7. How does the fact that Wyatt can’t roast come up? We get into a little roast battle with...

The gang is back for a second season of “Grand Crew” on March 3, and cast members Nicole Byer, Echo Kellum, Justin Cunningham, Aaron Jennings, Carl Tart and Grasie Mercedes break down what we can expect in this exclusive trailer for the NBC series.
Says Tart, “We heard your messages. We read the tweets. This season we are drinking real wine, so now we are drunk as skunks.”
In a scene from Season 2, which you can watch above, Wyatt (Cunningham) toasts the crew with a glass of water, even though everyone tells him it’s bad luck. Sure enough, he chokes on the water, his stool falls over and his pants split. When he sighs and says, “Someone get me a damn glass of wine,” every one of his friends offers their own glass.

NBC has delayed the premiere of criminal drama “Found” from a midseason launch on Feb. 19 to a fall 2023 premiere.
“Found,” which stars Shanola Hampton as public relations specialist Gabi Mosely, shines a light on the 600,000 people reported missing in the U.S. — more than half of which are people of color. As Gabi was once a forgotten missing person, her crisis management team works to ensure that no person becomes a faceless case. As Gabi relentlessly works to safeguard others’ wellbeing, a chilling secret of her own comes back to haunt her.
In addition to the shift, NBC has ordered additional scripts to showcase its commitment to the series.
“After watching the first few episodes of ‘Found,’ it quickly became clear that our love for this show has continued to grow and grow with each step of the process,” said Susan Rovner, chairman of Entertainment Content for NBCUniversal Television and Streaming.

Consider yourself a “Friends” or “Happy Endings” fanatic? Then “Grand Crew” is the show you need to binge-watch next.
With a bunch of 30-something friends from Los Angeles discussing the ups and downs of life and career in a local wine bar called ‘Wine Down,’ “Grand Crew’s” plot will have you rolling on the floor with laughter.
The show also touches upon some serious themes that men in America face, but it never fails to keep you laughing. It depicts how men can be dismissive of exploring or showing their vulnerabilities; be it therapy, father/son issues, or even bad breakups. Each episode deals with one issue with plenty of doses of wine and humor.
About the Makers of “Grand Crew”
This friendship comedy premiered on December 14, 2021, and is created by writer and producer Phil Augusta Jackson (who also created “Insecure” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”). Dan Goor is the executive producer.

Nicole Byer is, it has become increasingly clear, a star of uncommon charisma. The comic is best-known to many viewers as the host of “Nailed It!” on Netflix, and on that show she has displayed a keen ability to let others in on the joke even while laughing at them.
She is a welcome presence throughout the likable if uneven early episodes of “Grand Crew,” an NBC sitcom featuring friends in a major American city — Los Angeles, in this case — who meet during off-hours to process stories from their lives. “Grand Crew” is warm and well-intentioned, and it is at its best when digging into the dynamic between its circle of friends. The show’s occasional absurdist notes can seem effortful; the show is best when it allows Byer’s askew delivery to be “Grand Crew’s” most stylized touch.

NBC is planning ahead.
The network announced Tuesday that it had picked up three new shows from Universal Television – comedies Grand Crew and American Auto, and drama La Brea”for the 2021-2022 season.
Lisa Katz, who was recently named President of Scripted Content, made the announcement:
“Our driving force has always been to seek out talented storytellers who have a strong point of view,” Katz said.
“While these shows are very different thematically , what they have in common is a unique voice, excellent world building, and compelling storytelling. We can’t wait to share them with TV fans everywhere.”
La Brea certainly sounds like a good show to pair with Manifest. Here's the logline:
When a massive sinkhole mysteriously opens in Los Angeles, it tears a family in half, separating mother and son from father and daughter.
When part of the family find themselves in an unexplainable primeval world, alongside a disparate group of strangers,...

Netflix’s miniseries “When They See Us,” directed by Ava DuVernay netted 16 Emmy nominations, half of which were for its cast members. Among the nominees is Asante Blackk, who’s up in Best Limited Series/TV Movie Supporting Actor. The youngest Emmy winner is Roxana Zal, who nabbed the Best Limited Series/TV Movie Supporting Actress Emmy at the age of 14 in 1984 for playing Amelia Bennet in “Something About Amelia.” The second and third spots belong to the same person, Kristy McNichol, who took home her first statuette on her 15th birthday in 1977 in Best Drama Supporting Actress for “Family” and her second one two days before her 17th birthday for the same show in 1979. “When They See Us,” Ava DuVernay’s dramatization of the wrongful arrest and conviction of five black teenagers in New York City after the rape of a Central Park jogger 20 years ago, has been the most-viewed series on Netflix for the past 13 days.
“‘When They See Us’ has been the most-watched series on Netflix in the Us every day since it premiered on May 31,” the streamer tweeted Wednesday.
But Netflix didn’t provide any additional info beyond that, and it has selectively doled out self-reported numbers in the past to tout the popularity of some of its original series and films.
The four-part Netflix series was created by DuVernay, who also co-wrote and directed. She retweeted Netflix’s post about “When They See Us,” commenting only: “*faints*.”

Netflix closed its Emmy Fysee space on Sunday, June 9, with an emotionally charged screening of Ava DuVernay‘s limited series “When They See Us.” The event, hosted by executive producer Oprah Winfrey, included a Q&a with DuVernay, the cast and producers, followed by a separate interview with the Exonerated Five, whose devastating life stories formed the basis of the show. The discussion, which took place at Raleigh Studios in Hollywood, will air in its entirety on Netflix and on Winfrey’s Own Network on June 12. Watch a clip above.
“When They See Us” recounts the true story of Antron McCray, Korey Wise, Kevin Richardson, Raymond Santana and Yusef Salaam. In 1989, when they were teenagers, they were wrongfully convicted of raping a white jogger in New York City and spent years in prison and as registered sex offenders before their sentences were vacated in 2002 when the actual perpetrator came forward.

”A large part of what the story is, is about redressing the media narratives and how these boys — and men now — were done wrong in the narratives that were told that around them and about them and that’s one of them,” ‘When They See Us’ actor Joshua Jackson told Variety on the red carpet at the Aclu SoCal’s luncheon. The actor was talking about reframing the men as the “Exonerated Five.”
“In calling them the ‘Central Park Five,’ we reinforce this idea — that they were there and had anything to do with this — that that was the central backbone of their life. But they’re not allowed to move on from it. They are exonerated and they are the victims of this case, not the perpetrators.”
Jackson noted that the series was initially titled “The Central Park Five,” before it was changed to “When They See Us.” “I’ll just say for myself,...

When They See Us
In 2012, Ken Burns made the documentary called The Central Park Five. Wamg’s Melissa Thompson wrote how the film told of the story of five black teenagers who were arrested in 1989 for the brutal beating and rape of a woman jogger in New York’s Central Park .
“What followed was one of the worst miscarriages of justice anyone could ever imagine. Starting with the New York City cops who interrogated the boys without parents or lawyers present, to the media, who created a mob-mentality screaming with bloodlust, with their tabloid headlines and made up term “wilding wolf pack” to whip the public into a frenzy of demands for the death penalty.
And all the while these poor kids had nothing to do with the horrific crime, other than the fact that they were in the park on that same night. There was absolutely no evidence connecting them to the case,...
