A star-studded event to honor Willie Nelson is premiering tonight!

Willie Nelson’s 90th Birthday Celebration will air on Sunday (December 16) at 8:30 p.m. Et on CBS. Viewers can also stream the special on Paramount+.

A 12-time Grammy winner, Willie is widely regarded as a country music legend. Accordingly, some of the genre’s biggest stars, in addition to other A-list celebrities, took part in the television special commemorating his 90th birthday!

The show was taped on April 29 and 30 at the Hollywood Bowl.

Sarah McLachlan has plotted a 2024 North American tour to celebrate the 30th anniversary of her third studio album, Fumbling Towards Ecstasy. Fellow Canadian singer Feist will serve as a special guest on all dates except for Toronto, where McLachlan will be joined by Allison Russell.

The 30-date “Fumbling Towards Ecstasy 30th Anniversary Tour” will see McLachlan playing the album in its entirety, and kicks off in Seattle on May 25th with a two-night stand at Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery. From there, the singer will stop in Los Angeles, Chicago, Toronto, New York City, and Nashville before wrapping up on July 6th in Sugar Land, Texas. An incredibly star-studded audience stepped out to witness Brandi and her legendary group of friends perform an intimate night of music on Saturday (October 14) in Los Angeles.

Brandi was joined on stage throughout the night by pals Joni Mitchell, Annie Lennox, Allison Russell, Wendy & Lisa, Lucius, Blake Mills, and her wife Catherine. The evening ended with the entire stage rotating to reveal everyone sitting on couches with Joni sitting on a throne in the center. They all performed three songs together to conclude the show!

Kicking off on July 28th in Milwaukee, the trek includes shows at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles and Wolf Trap in Vienna, Virginia — both of which will feature support from Aimee Mann. Radical joy and consistent action were the messages at Nashville’s Love Rising benefit concert on Monday, an event that drew supporters to the city’s downtown Bridgestone Arena. Hosted by Drag Race alumna Asia O’Hara and featuring performances by Hayley Williams, Hozier, Sheryl Crow, Jason Isbell, Maren Morris, Allison Russell, Joy Oladokun, and Nashville’s drag artists — among many others — the concert raised money for four Tennessee organizations working to fight the state government’s ongoing legislative attacks against the LGBTQ+ community.

As Tennessee lawmakers attempt to push some members of the LGBTQ+ community out of the public sphere, Jason Isbell and Allison Russell organized Love Rising, a joyous fundraising event that offered support for those under attack. The March 21st concert hosted sets by Sheryl Crow, Brittany Howard, Julien Baker, Hozier, several members of country supergroup The Highwomen, and more, including Hayley Williams with the live debut of “Inordinary” and a cover of Deana Carter’s “Did I Shave My Legs for This?”

The fundraiser benefited Tennessee Equality Project, inclusion tennessee, OUTMemphis, The Tennessee Pride Chamber, and The Looking Out Foundation, which offered to double any donations it received up to $100,000. Donations remain open and ongoing.

The night was a whole a who’s-who of performers: James Taylor, Mavis Staples, Sheryl Crow, Pat Benatar, Neil Giraldo, Warren Haynes, the John Mayer Trio, Rufus Wainwright, Gary Clark Jr., Jim James, Ledisi, Allison Russell, The War and Treaty, and former Yankee Bernie Williams all took the stage throughout the evening.

In light of Tennessee’s anti-drag legislation, Allison Russell and Jason Isbell have organized Love Rising, a concert benefitting local LGBTQ organizations set for March 20th at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.

Love Rising will also feature performances from Hayley Williams, Sheryl Crow, Maren Morris, Hozier, Brittany Howard, Brothers Osborne, Amanda Shires, Julien Baker, Joy Oladokun, Yola, Jake Wesley Rogers, and Mya Byrne, with more artists to be announced.

The concert benefits the Tennessee Equality Project, inclusion tennessee, OUTMemphis, and The Tennessee Pride Chamber. Additionally, The Looking Out Foundation will double any donations it receives up to $100,000.

Love Rising comes after Tennessee passed Senate Bill 3 and House Bill 9, two pieces of legislation that ban drag performances from taking place on public property, as well as in any location where minors could be present. The bills stem from the belief that drag shows are somehow dangerous to young people, an extension of transphobic and homophobic ideology.

Jason Isbell, Maren Morris, Sheryl Crow, Paramore’s Hayley Williams, and Allison Russell are among the artists set to perform at a Nashville benefit concert for several organizations that serve the LGBTQ+ community. “Love Rising Tennessee,” held in partnership with the Looking Out Foundation, will take place March 20 at Bridgestone Arena.

Jason Isbell and his band The 400 Unit have a new album on the way. It’s called Weathervanes, and before it’s out June 9th via Southeastern Records/Thirty Tigers, Isbell has today unveiled the lead single “Death Wish” as well as a long run of North American 2023 tour dates.

A press release describes Weathervanes as “a collection of grown-up songs” that span topics like love, change, and nostalgia: “There is something about boundaries on this record,” Isbell explains in a statement. “As you mature, you still attempt to keep the ability to love somebody fully and completely while you’re growing into an adult and learning how to love yourself.” Pre-orders for the record are ongoing.

AmericanaFest has announced new safety guidelines for this year’s event in response to the Delta variant of Covid-19. All attendees will now be required to provide proof of vaccination or a negative Covid test prior to entry to any of the festival’s concerts, showcases and panels. Masks are also encouraged for any indoor functions, including for people who have already been vaccinated. AmericanaFest runs September 22nd to 25th at venues throughout Nashville.

The news follows weeks of speculation over how organizers would address the latest surge in Covid-19 cases.

Farm Aid's annual festival — a full day of music, family farmers, Homegrown food and a Homegrown Village with agrarian experiences — is returning to Hartford, Connecticut, this year live and in-person on Saturday, Sept. 25, at Xfinity Theatre.

The first three days of this year’s Newport Folk Festival closed with an unforgettable surprise: soul and R&b legend Chaka Khan. The singer joined an ensemble cast of performers including Kam Franklin, Brandi Carlile, Adia Victoria, Joy Oladokun, Margo Price, Kyshona, Yola, and Amythyst Kiah on the festival’s main stage headlining set titled “Once and Future Sounds,” curated by Allison Russell.

Two years after supergroup quartet Our Native Daughters released their stunning debut album, Songs of Our Native Daughters, the collective of Rhiannon Giddens, Allison Russell, Amythyst Kiah, and Leyla McCalla are releasing a documentary that chronicles the band’s story.

Over hypnotic, murky bass, Dobro, and violin tones, Giddens stands her ground against a cruel lover. “You wouldn’t treat a dog that way, don’t call me names,” she sings. Over the past two years, Rhiannon Giddens has emerged as one of American music’s most vitally prolific artists, collaborating across mediums as she’s written music for the theatre (the ballet Lucy Negro Redux), appeared as a regular on a television drama (Cmt’s Nashville), formed folk-roots supergroups (Songs of Our Native Daughters) and hosted a podcast dedicated to her love of opera.

She’s also released two solo albums, the latest of which, There Is No Other, is a collaborative concept LP of sorts with Italian jazz multi-instrumentalist Francesco Turrisi.

As she tends to do, Rhiannon Giddens had an idea. The singer-banjoist and MacArthur Genuis had convened a group of fellow artists — Allison Russell, Leyla McCalla and Amythyst Kiah —in January 2018 to record the collaborative concept album Songs of Our Native Daughters to interpret and revive long-extinct forms of music.
