Michael Keaton recently appeared on Saturday Night Live, taking on hosting duties for the fourth time. The actor’s opening monologue was crashed by a few familiar faces. In fact, while sharing the stage, they also had a special request for Keaton.

Michael Keaton brought nostalgia and laughs to “Saturday Night Live” during his most recent hosting appearance celebrating the show’s 50th season. In his opening monologue, Keaton looked back on his long history with SNL dating back to his debut in 1982. He shared a funny anecdote about working as a production assistant on “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” in the 1970s.
The monologue took an unexpected turn as Keaton started talking about the newly released “Beetlejuice” sequel film. As he joked about fans still recognizing him as his iconic character from the 1988 movie, two surprise guests joined him on stage dressed as Beetlejuice. Former SNL cast member Andy Samberg and current cast member Mikey Day both wore Beetlejuice’s signature striped suit.
Samberg used Beetlejuice’s growling voice to reminisce about attempting but failing many times to bring the character to SNL. This led Keaton to remind everyone to just call him “Beetlejuice” instead of other nicknames.

Saturday Night Live‘s “Weekend Update” gave a spotlight to a newcomer on Season 50, in Emil Wakim, who used his time to unpack young people’s support for Gazan and Palestinian people.
During the segment, co-host Colin Jost invited Wakim, who is Lebanese, to the table, where he tested his stand-up material in front of a live audience, including a bit about why a talking point previously uttered by Bill Maher against Chappell Roan won’t fly with Gen Z.
“I don’t think people are being honest with stuff over there,” Wakim said. “Like a lot of young people now that are for gay rights and women’s rights will be like ‘Free Palestine, free Gaza,’ and then people on the other side are being like,...

Michael Keaton returned to “Saturday Night Live” this week, marking his fourth time hosting at Studio 8H after first appearing on the show in 1982. “Man, I am excited to be back here hosting ‘Saturday Night Live’s’ 50th season,” he said before reminiscing on where his career stood when the show first premiered.
“I was a Pa on ‘Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,’ he said. “And in the ’70s, you know, ‘SNL’ and ‘Mister Rogers’ have a lot more similarities than you would think. Lots of puppets. Tons of cocaine” — though Keaton then praised Fred Rogers as “everything you’d think he was.”
Keaton then touched on “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” the recently released film that saw him reprise his role from 1988’s “Beetlejuice.”

In his fourth time hosting Saturday Night Live, Michael Keaton is egged on toward memory lane.
During his opening monologue for SNL 50, the Beetlejuice actor is forced to share the stage with Mikey Day and Andy Samberg, both of whom crash the stage in full Betelgeuse attire: untamed green hair, pinstripe suit and ghastly makeup to boot.

Noel and Liam Gallagher might not be doing press before their world tour kicks off in 2025, but that’s not stopping “Oasis” from taking interviews… at least on “SNL.” Though last night’s sketch may have entertained some fans, Liam wasn’t having any of it. Season 50 of “Saturday Night Live” started strong with an exciting unveiling of new political impersonations from Andy Samberg, Jim Gaffigan, Dana Carvey, Bowen Yang, and others. An episode hosted by Nate Bargatze that proved the show is at its best when working off talent with a comedic background, but this week’s episode, hosted by Ariana Grande, proved that maintaining a hot streak after 50 seasons isn’t always possible. The episode started with a traditional political cold open that saw Vice President Kamala Harris (Maya Rudolph) and former President Donald Trump (James Austin Johnson) face off in a game of Family Feud rather than a regular debate. Hosted by Steve Harvey (Kenan Thompson), Harris was joined by her husband, Doug Emhoff (Samberg), her VP pick Tim Walz (Gaffigan), and President Joe Biden (Carvey), while Trump reluctantly brought along his son, Donald Jr. (Mikey Day), and his running mate, Jd Vance...

Ariana Grande continued to showcase her impersonating skills on Saturday Night Live, giving life to Jennifer Coolidge.
SNL cast member Chloe Fineman joined Grande for a sketch spoofing a Maybelline commercial starring Coolidge.
As Fineman applies the lip color, she says she will look in the mirror “and make sure I didn’t miss any spots.” Grande appears on the other side of the “mirror,” mirroring Fineman’s look.
Fineman and Grande take turns impersonating Coolidge’s unique vocal modulation. The two seem to have so much fun with the sketch that they almost break character several times, cracking tiny giggles throughout.

A chaotic “Weekend Update” on Saturday Night Live spoofed an overworked Amazon employee on Prime Day in Ego Nwodim’s Monica and the Gallagher brothers of the rock band Oasis, with James Austin Johnson and Sarah Sherman playing the oft-feuding siblings.
First, Nwodim’s frenzied worker tells host Michael Che that her Prime Day experience was great, in the way that Hanukkah is — as in, she “worked eight straight days.”
“I worked so much, I had to make a whole new day of the week — Fluesday, that’s when you close your eyes on Friday and wake up behind the wheel on Tuesday,” Nwodim said, delivered in rapid-fire speech.
When asked by Che if she had a work-life balance, Nwodim assured him that she did, saying, “Once a week, I order an Amazon package to my own address, just so I could drive by my house and wave to my kids.

Nearly a year before their much anticipated Oasis reunion tour, Noel and Liam Gallagher shared the stage for the first time together in year on “Saturday Night Live.” Well, sort of…
James Austin Johnson and Sarah Sherman took to “Weekend Update” as the long estranged Gallagher brothers, promising host Colin Jost that they won’t break up again before their tour next year.
“Everyone’s wondering, are you guys gonna be cool to tour a year from now?” Jost asked the Gallaghers.
“I’m cool if he’s cool,” Johnson’s Noel responded.
“I’m cool, I’m cool, I’m cooler than you are,” Sherman’s Liam shot back.
Jost wasn’t convinced. “Great. So, that’s a no.”
The Oasis reunion tour is already shaping up to be the biggest concert experience of 2025, with U.S. tour dates recently added and thousands of fans scrambling to nab seats online.

Comedy fans love to complain about the current quality of Saturday Night Live, but Laraine Newman believes two of her former castmates would be fans. “Well, I think they’d be amazed,” she told People. “It’s hard to know whether they would have been excited about the evolution of comedy tone, but I think they would be. Both Gilda and John had a very progressive perspective on the world, as well as comedy.”
While much about the show has changed over the past 50 years, the way SNL is assembled from Monday to Saturday night has remained remarkably consistent. “In format, that hasn’t changed,” Newman explained. “The behind-the-scenes function of pitching to the host, assigning sketches, writing all night and preparing for the live show — that’s all the same.”
What’s different? “They have technology that we didn’t have,” she said, although it’s not clear exactly...

Heidi Gardner both shone and disturbed in Saturday night’s “Mile High Burger Challenge” sketch on “SNL.” With her skill for physical comedy on display, Gardner joined host Nate Bargatze and cast members Bowen Yang, Mikey Day and Sarah Sherman as family members wrestling with making health-related decisions for their aging patriarch.
Though Gardner’s character was ostensibly only there to be a “silent resource” after having faced similar decisions for her own mother, she quickly took center stage after her order — the Mile High Burger — arrived at the table, shocking Gardner with its unexpected girth. Waiter Andrew Dismukes explained that finishing the burger and accompanying milkshake in under 10 minutes would result in a free trip to Hawai’i, something that Gardner decided to go for as she listened to the solemn discussion.

Saturday Night Live‘s unpredictability is one of its trademarks. It’s a live show, so anything can happen in the three to five minutes a sketch is aired. But sometimes, even the most well-written and rehearsed elements of the sketch comedy series can go haywire. Here are four times actors totally broke character and made their sketch even funnier than originally intended.
Every ‘Saturday Night Live’ Ryan Gosling ‘Close Encounter’ sketch with Kate McKinnon
This now-classic Saturday Night Live sketch, “Close Encounter,” is a recurring bit about three friends abducted by aliens and questioned by the Nsa and Seti. Kate McKinnon, Ryan Gosling, Cecily Strong (the longest-tenured female cast member in the series history), and later Sarah Sherman played the friends. Aidy Bryant, Mikey Day, and Bowen Yang all played Nsa officers.
Two friends had peaceful experiences with the aliens, sharing the glow and warmth they felt from the otherworldly creatures.

Charli Xcx thought Bowen Yang’s impression of her on Saturday Night Live was very brat.
In a recent appearance on The Howard Stern Show, the dance music artist was asked by the host if she saw the sketch, part of the Season 50 opener episode, as a “compliment, or were you just ticked off about it?”
But the self-titled “365, party girl” was a fan.
“Oh no, no, no, I think SNL is iconic, and Troye [Sivan] and I, we had an inkling it was coming,” the singer, who is currently co-headlining the Sweat tour alongside Sivan, said. “We were very excited about it, and I love Bowen, and honestly, I think he did a great job. I was very impressed with the hair texture actually, I thought it was a really good wig. Yeah, it was good. It was cool.”

Charli Xcx is sharing her reaction to Bowen Yang’s recent impression of her during the Saturday Night Live season 50 premiere.

Rena Sofer changed her ways as the new non-Brooklyn-accented Lois Cerullo on General Hospital. She did a complete change almost overnight, and we wondered how long it would last. But so far, she’s keeping her new way of speaking, and the fans adored her for it.
To Speak or Not to Speak
Sofer was ahead of the pack with 48% of the fan votes, beating out Rebecca Herbst (Liz), Sawandi Wilson (Isaiah), and Tabyana Ali (Trina). Although it seemed like junior high school drama, Lois was upset when a fan and even the crew on Home & Heart insulted her Brooklyn accent as she was selling Deception’s cosmetic products on live TV. She was disconcerted by the insults.
Tracy hired a dialect coach named Robin Finch (Sarah Sherman) and presto change-o, Lois’ accent was gone. For a while, Lois sounded like a robot as she chose her words and pronunciation carefully,...

I hope the first cold open of Season 50 isn’t a harbinger of what Saturday Night Live will look like during its anniversary year. With an opening sketch devoted to — what else? — the upcoming Presidential election, SNL hit the ground running by stumbling into the show’s most common criticisms.
Overly long sketches? Check. The look at the Harris and Trump campaigns clocks in at over 13 minutes. Won’t we get enough of the political screaming during the commercial breaks?Unnecessary cameos? Check. Maya Rudolph as Kamala Harris? Of course. But this wouldn’t be post-Trump SNL without a mixed bag of celebrity cameos. Jim Gaffigan shows up as Lorne’s second choice to play Tim Walz, a reminder that the affable pale comic is more of a stand-up than a sketch comedian. Dorky Andy Samberg does better as Kamala’s enthusiastic husband Doug. Then Dana Carvey dodders out as Joe Biden,...

“Brat” summer might be over, but nothing is truly dead until “Saturday Night Live” gets its hands on it.
On Saturday’s season opener of the NBC sketch comedy series, Bowen Yang transformed into Charli Xcx to host a fictional series called “The Talk Talk Show,” in a nod to one of the British pop star’s song titles.
In the segment, Yang welcomed “Australian dingo twink Troye Sivan,” with whom Charli Xcx is currently on the Sweat Tour. Playing the “Rush” singer was Sarah Sherman, who lifted up her shirt to reveal fake washboard abs.
“Troye, are you happy to be here?” asked Yang, to which Sherman responded, “Naur!”
Yang then ran through recent events and deemed them either “brat or nat.” The verdict: Hunter Biden’s laptop is “brat,” and Mark Robinson’s search history is “nat.” Barron Trump going to NYU is “brat,” but NYU itself is “nat.

NBCUniversal recruited “Saturday Night Live” duo Colin Jost and Michael Che for the first-ever live comedy special for its streaming service Peacock on Thursday evening. The pair poked fun at the unproven format and distributor of their comedy hour, titled “Colin Jost & Michael Che Present: New York After Dark,” in their opening monologue.
“Tonight’s going to be like group sex. If it goes well, then we can do it again every couple months with our friends. And if it goes really bad and it’s a disaster, we’ll never talk about it again. And either way we’re going to film it.” Jost started, taking the stage at the The Bell House in Brooklyn. “We’re on Peacock! You guys know Peacock right? You know Peacock from the phrase, ‘I can’t believe the NFL made us download fucking Peacock.'”
“The fuck is wrong with you man?...

While few were surprised by the exits of Punkie Johnson (she had struggled to break through for four seasons) and Molly Kearney, Troast showed tremendous promise in sketches that featured her powerful singing voice and offbeat comic sensibilities.
While Johnson and Kearney were vague about the reason behind their departures, Troast made it clear in her Instagram post that the decision was not hers. “Unfortunately i was not asked back to SNL this season. I wish I was going to be back with all the amazing friends i made there, it truly felt like home. But it wasn’t in the cards.”
Current and former Saturday Night Live cast members responded with kindness.
