Kerwin Young was born in New York City, and is a concert & media composer, recording producer, educator, multi-musician, and Hip-Hop Cultural Ambassador. Kerwin is a producer-member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted group, Public Enemy. He's written and produced original songs for motion pictures as Green Card, Sister Act 2, and He Got Game; and for television series as Euphoria, and the Midnight Club. Composer credits for film and television include Shame of Chicago, After College, Cut Me a New Path, and New York Undercover. As a concert composer, Young has composed nine symphonies, several orchestral fantasies, arias, ballet suites, chamber, wind band, and jazz big-band works; with commissions from Opera Memphis, the Chautauqua Opera Company, Tesla Quartet, the Albany (NY) Symphony, the DC Youth Orchestra, and many others.
Kerwin Young earned a B.M. and M.M. in music composition at the UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance, where he studied with Chen Yi, Zhou Long, and Jazz Messenger legend, Bobby Watson.
