Earlier this year, Full Moon founder Charles Band announced that his company was launching a new production label called Pulp Noir, which will focus on “edgier, weirder, darker horror and dark fantasy films.” They also set up a Patreon account where fans can subscribe and show their support for the company while getting a behind-the-scenes look at the making of these films. The first movie in the Pulp Noir line, a female serial killer story called Quadrant, wrapped production a while back – and now Full Moon has announced that the movie will be getting Blu-ray, DVD, limited edition VHS, and streaming release on August 23rd!
Directed by Band, Quadrant was written by C. Courtney Joyner and is described as being an unholy blend of steampunk terror and sci-fi slasher, with a female serial killer using the titular VR device to stalk her prey and channel the legacy of Jack the Ripper,...

Charles Band’s company Full Moon will be releasing the goofball comedy Barbie & Kendra Crash Joe Bob’s Drive-In Jamboree this Friday, June 28th – and in anticipation of that release, the Full Moon streaming service Full Moon Features is shining a spotlight on the entire Barbie and Kendra franchise, a series they say “started out of the necessities of pandemic lockdowns and has since become one of our most beloved franchises!” Barbie & Kendra Crash Joe Bob’s Drive-In Jamboree is the fourth chapter in the franchise that began with Corona Zombies (now known as Barbie & Kendra Meet the Corona Zombies) back at the height of the pandemic and has continued through Barbie & Kendra Save the Tiger King and Barbie & Kendra Storm Area 51. All of those movies were released in 2020, so it’s been a while since the last Barbie and Kendra adventure.

Charles Band’s company Full Moon just keeps on trucking here in 2024, with the company announcing another brand new venture this week. It’s titled Full Moon’s Pulp Noir, a new label of movies that are said to be “darker” and “edgier” than recent Full Moon output.
Band detailed the upcoming slate in a video posted to YouTube this week, previewing “ten fantastic films that go just a bit farther over the line into the phantasmagorical abyss.”
He teases, “This year, Full Moon will be producing 10 feature films, shot in Italy and America, and we’re offering several exciting opportunities for you to be directly involved.”
“I’ve been thinking recently about how to create a new brand of movies. Movies that are still obviously deep in the sci-fi, fantasy, mainly horror sub-genre, and do it differently than what we’ve been doing with Full Moon. So I thought...

Charles Band’s company Full Moon has been delivering wild, crazy, entertaining films for almost thirty-five years now – and on the latest episode of his YouTube series Full Moon Universe, Band has revealed that 2024 is going to be another big year for them, as they’re launching a new production label called Pulp Noir with a slate of ten films. The plan being that all ten of those movies are going to be filmed by the end of this year.
Here’s how Band explained it: “I’ve been thinking recently about how to create a new brand of movies. Movies that are still deep in the sci-fi, fantasy, mainly horror sub-genre, and do it differently than what we’ve been doing with Full Moon. So I thought it was time to make a series of features that would be darker, edgier. (There are) a lot of concepts I’ve...

After a twenty-five year wait, Full Moon was finally able to get writer/director Ted Nicolaou‘s Subspecies V: Blood Rise through production and out into the world last year – and now that the franchise is complete, Full Moon founder Charles Band has revealed that his company will be releasing a Subspecies Blu-ray box set next month… and the movies are going to be housed in a wooden coffin!
Band made the announcement in an episode of his YouTube series Full Moon Universe, and the video can be watched at the bottom of this article. The wooden coffin box set will contain Blu-ray copies of Subspecies, Bloodstone: Subspecies II, Bloodlust: Subspecies III, the Subspecies-adjacent Vampire Journals, Subspecies 4: Bloodstorm, and Subspecies V: Blood Rise, plus a CD copy of the first movie’s musical score and a glow-in-the-dark Tiny Terrors action figure of the vampire Radu.

Full Moon Features is gearing up to go into production on their “crazy, candy-colored” comedy Barbenheimer, which was inspired by the portmanteau we all saw a thousand times last summer, as movie-goers headed out for double features of Barbie and Oppenheimer. Full Moon founder Charles Band took to social media to let us know that Barbenheimer will begin filming on April 8th, aiming for a summer 2024 release.
In this post, Band tagged his wife, actress Robin Sydney, genre icon Barbara Crampton, legendary drive-in movie critic and TV host Joe Bob Briggs, and Joe Bob’s “mail girl” Darcy, a.k.a. Diana Prince. We’ll have to wait and see if that means Sydney, Crampton, Joe Bob, and Prince are all going to appear in the movie.

Full Moon founder Charles Band is one of my heroes, and another one of my heroes is drive-in critic and movie host Joe Bob Briggs. Those two legends collided last weekend, as Band’s marriage to actress Robin Sydney was officiated by Joe Bob!
The wedding took place at the historic Casa Del Mar Hotel in Santa Monica, California, on December 9th and was planned by Krystal Moreno from Krystal Klear Special Events & Hospitality Consulting. According to an article on People, the idea was to blend together some of the things Band and Sydney love the most, resulting in “a Magic Castle, old Hollywood concert feel with a touch of a circus.” Two Cirque du Soleil artists, a contortionist and a belly dancer, performed at the venue, as did magicians from the Magic Castle, a private club in Los Angeles owned by the Academy of Magical Arts. Back in August, the mad geniuses at Full Moon Features announced that they will be taking the portmanteau Barbenheimer – which we all saw a thousand times this summer, as movie-goers headed out for double features of Barbie and Oppenheimer – and turning it into a movie of its own. Now producer and Full Moon founder Charles Band has taken a moment to talk to both The Hollywood Reporter and People about Barbenheimer, describing it as a “crazy, candy-colored romp”.
Barbenheimer will be telling the story of Dr. Bambi J Barbenheimer, a brilliant scientist doll living in Dolltopia, a world of endless summers and beach parties, and her boyfriend Twink Dollman. Dr. Barbenheimer, incensed by the brutal treatment the dolls receive at the hands of human children, ventures into the real world, where she experiences humanity at its worst and, naturally, decides to build a giant nuclear bomb to take it all out.

It’s B-Movie Barbie! Survivors of this summer’s “Barbenheimer” phenomenon will get the chance to catch a feature-length film nominally inspired by the dual July premiere weekend of Greta Gerwig’s Mattel toy reimagining Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s explosive biopic Oppenheimer.
Barbenheimer, from prolific low-budget filmmaker and Puppet Master series creator Charles Band, will focus on Dr. Bambi J. Barbenheimer, a scientist doll living in Dolltopia with her boyfriend Twink Dollman, who becomes disillusioned with humans’ treatment of dolls and decides to build a giant nuclear bomb to destroy the real world. Fittingly, the synopsis reads: “They got great looks and a super attitude! Oh, and now they’ve got the bomb.”
Despite the apocalyptic stakes, Barbenheimer will actually try to add some levity to a box office that’s taken itself too seriously lately, according to Band. “It’s so silly,” the director told The Hollywood Reporter.

Film industry cynics may take one look at a newly announced low-budget comedy called Barbenheimer and a poster that uses Barbie’s iconic pink font over a picture of a nuclear explosion and features the tagline “D-Cup, A-Bomb,” and immediately assume it’s simply a shameless attempt to cash in on a very recent cultural phenomenon. And those cynics would be absolutely correct, says Charles Band, the prolific B-movie icon who has been making low-budget horror comedies since the early 1970s.
“It’s 100 percent true,” he says. “But it’s also an opportunity to have fun with the bizarre coupling of these two movies and the combination of Barbie’s vibe and the darkness of Oppenheimer. You mix that together and you have such an opportunity for dark humor.”

Producer Charles Band, founder of Full Moon, started dreaming of having the Puppet Master characters cross over with the Demonic Toys characters while he was bringing the first Demonic Toys movie into the world back in 1992 – in fact, during the behind-the-scenes Video Zone that was put together for the release of Demonic Toys, Band revealed that Full Moon was considering having the puppets and toys face off in Puppet Master 4. That didn’t happen, Puppet Master 4 ended up being something totally different, but the idea of Puppet Master vs. Demonic Toys was kept alive for over a decade. Unfortunately, Band didn’t get the chance to produce the film when it was made. He had to sell off the rights to the Sci-Fi Channel, and they made the Puppet Master vs. Demonic Toys movie that was released in 2004. But now the crossover is finally happening under the Full Moon banner…...

Aimee: The Visitor opens with a title card telling us that Aimee was not portrayed by an actor or created with digital effects. She is, they claim, the first femme fatale created using AI. The timing is ironic considering the current strikes in Hollywood were, in part, the result of studios wanting to replace writers and performers with AI. However, if this is state of the art, they don’t need to worry just yet.
Scott Keyes is a hacker. You can tell because he has his computer set up in an abandoned loft and sits shirtless in front of his monitor so engrossed in the porn he’s watching he doesn’t notice he’s not alone.
Hunter and his sister Gazelle (Faith West; Maid Droid) have stopped by with some software for him.

Greta Gerwig's "Barbie" and Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer" were meant to be counter-programming for each other. They both opened in theaters on July 21, 2023, and one can practically hear the studio executives at both Universal and Warner Bros. positing that a younger audience would be dropped off to see the PG-13-rated "Barbie" while adults would sidle into the theater next door to watch "Oppenheimer." What no one seemed to predict was that there was a great deal of overlap between the two films' intended audiences, and a grassroots campaign began to see the two pictures as the ultimate double feature. The phenomenon nicknamed Barbenheimer began. Any number of unauthorized Barbenheimer T-shirts can be purchased online, and many managed to see both films on the same weekend. Rather than siphoning money from one another, "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" buoyed each other, each one adding to the other's success. Both films are...

The Primevals stands as a heartfelt tribute to his late friend and collaborator, David Allen. Back in the 1980s, the term “home video” actually referred to movies that had been transferred to honest-to-goodness analog videocassette tape. Keen-eyed genre mavens would excitedly trawl the aisles of their local emporium, often choosing between titles based on little more than lurid cover art and advertising hype.
One of the premier purveyors of the most cherished low-budget, unabashedly lowbrow entertainments was Charles Band’s Empire Pictures, staffed by a tightly knit “band of outsiders” whose names crop up time and again across the studio’s roster of deliriously enjoyable sci-fi and horror films. As it happens, Empire was a pure product of the decade, founded in 1983 and defunct by 1989, when it made way for Band’s next (and still flourishing) endeavor: Full Moon Features. Now, the fine folks at Arrow Video have gathered together a bumper crop of Empire’s output in their lavishly produced box set Enter the Video Store: Empire of Screams.

The Castle Freak episode of Best Horror Movie You Never Saw was Written by Cody Hamman, Narrated by Jason Hewlett, Edited by Paul Bookstaber, Produced by John Fallon and Tyler Nichols, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
Stuart Gordon directed some of the best, most popular H.P. Lovecraft adaptations ever made, starting with the 1985 classic Re-Animator. A decade after making that movie, he returned to Lovecraft to tell a much darker, even nastier story. The story of a hideous man who has lived an awful life of confinement and torture. And when he escapes, a bloodbath ensues. It’s the story of a man known as the Castle Freak – and it’s The Best Horror Movie You Never Saw.
Stuart Gordon and producer Charles Band established their working relationship during the filming of Re-Animator. The project benefited from the production facilities of Band’s company Empire Pictures, and Empire was the distributor.

Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood is one of the more divisive entries of the long running franchise. Fans have always praised its depiction of Jason, with his weathered, rotted appearance and for Kane Hodder donning the mask for the very first time, but have criticized its more fantasy-based story direction and the fact that the exquisite gore sequences were so drastically cut by the MPAA that they practically neutered the movie. I think there’s some weight to these arguments, but I also think that many fans tend to criticize The New Blood for not being what they wanted it to be rather than enjoying it for what it is, partly because what it actually became is spectacularly out-of-left field and unexpected for what began as a straight-to-the-point summer camp slasher. Not even a decade after the original’s release, here comes Friday the 13th Part VII...

When the trailer for the long-awaited Full Moon production Subspecies V: Blood Rise arrived online last month, the expectation was that the movie would be available to watch on FullMoonFeatures.com by the end of February, and would then be available on Amazon Prime Video shortly after its debut. But plans have changed. During a new episode of his Full Moon Universe YouTube show, Full Moon founder Charles Band revealed that Subspecies V: Blood Rise will receive a theatrical release in thirty to forty cities, courtesy of Alamo Drafthouse, on May 15th. The theatrical screenings of Subspecies V: Blood Rise will be a one-night event, and Band is hoping to have a Full Moon representative at each theatre to do giveaways and sell merchandise. Full Moon will also be filming some kind of intro with director Ted Nicolaou and stars Anders Hove and Denice Duff to show before the movie begins.

Subject Matter, a recently-launched nonprofit organization that supports social issue documentary films and other nonprofits that work on its featured topics, announced their inaugural grantees, awarding a total of 120,000 to four feature-length documentaries and four of the films’ coinciding nonprofits. Subject Matter launched in July, spearheaded by former Tribeca Film Institute leaders Amy Hobby, David Earls, and Colleen Hammond.
The inaugural grantees were determined by a selection committee that included Subject Matter board members actor Jeffrey Wright, entrepreneur Lily Band, Picture Motion and Kinema founder Christie Marchese, documentary director and producer Ferne Pearlstein and social justice and public health grant maker Julia Greenberg, along with guest jurors filmmaker Shola Lynch and film programmer José Rodriguez.
