Exclusive: Ahead of the release of her debut docu-film, Munroe Bergdorf has signed with Curtis Brown.

The broadcaster, activist, model and author has signed in all areas with the UTA-owned agency’s entertainment and unscripted division.

The news comes with Olivia Cappuccini’s Love & Rage: Munroe Bergdorf due to be released next year by Universal Pictures Content Group. Confronted by her past, the doc follows Bergdorf’s journey as she begins to write the story of her life.

Bergdorf’s other broadcasting work has included MTV’s Queerpiphany, which she presented with RuPaul’s Drag Race UK star Tayce, and Spotify podcast The Way We Are.

She has also written two books, with Talk To Me set to published next year following Transitional, which came out in 2023. Bergdorf is also known for her advocacy work. Amfo is one of a number to have left Simon Cowell’s agency Ymu over the past few months. UTA-owned Curtis Brown will represent her in all areas.

The BBC has unveiled its presenter line-up for King Charles III’s Coronation next month.

Presenters revealed this morning include Huw Edwards, who will provide commentary on the Saturday May 6 proceedings, Anita Rani and Clare Balding. Rani will join the gathered crowds while Balding, the new face of the BBC’s tennis coverage, will provide commentary on the ceremonial route.

The event will take place on Saturday May 6 and involve a number of ceremonial proceedings with King Charles III and his wife Camilla, who will be crowned Queen alongside him in London.

Other presenters revealed this morning include Kirsty Young, JJ Chalmers, Sophie Raworth and radio presenters Mishal Hussain, Martha Kearney and James Naughtie.

Dry Spell Extended

ITV has commissioned a second season of the comedy-drama series “The Dry” for Itvx. It will be produced by Element Pictures (part of Fremantle), in association with Fís Eireann/Screen Ireland and ITV Studios, in partnership with RTÉ. Nancy Harris (Dates) and acclaimed director Paddy Breathnach will return to helm the second season, which will stream exclusively on Itvx next year. The first season was made available to view for free on the streamer last month. With the story picking up seven months after the end of the first, Roisin Gallagher will return as recovering alcoholic Shiv Sheridan, alongside regular cast members from the first series. London-based girl band Flo have been named the winners of the Brit Awards 2023 Rising Star prize.

Clara Amfo announced the news on her BBC Radio 1 Future Sounds show Thursday (8 December), revealing the group as the first-ever band to win the award.

The BBC has confirmed that this year’s Top of the Pops Christmas Special will still go ahead despite reports that it had been axed.

The festive special will air as usual, hosted by BBC Radio 1’s Clara Amfo and Jack Saunders.

Top of the Pops stopped being broadcast weekly in 2006, but has continued to air its festive special annually.

In a series of reports this week, it was claimed that the show will be shelved, per an article published in The Sun. The piece alleged that “BBC Scrooges” had axed the special after 57 years on TV.

A source told the publication: “[BBC] bosses felt the cost involved in creating a one-off show like this were too high to justify. Creating the studio and bringing together a string of artists to perform for just this programme required a disproportionate amount of resources.”

BBC Three returns as a broadcast channel on Feb. 1 with a renewed focus on youth.

“BBC Three was always focused on that under-35 demographic historically, and so that’s definitely a core part of our DNA,” says BBC Three controller Fiona Campbell. “The new iteration of where we’re at creatively – we’re focusing on 25s and under. That’s our creative sweet spot because it’s a very specific stage of life.”

Campbell, speaking at a media round table, added that the commissions for the channel are from across U.K. regions. Royal Family Angered by BBC Princes Doc

Members of the Royal Family are reported to be threatening to boycott the BBC over a documentary set to air tonight about Prince William and Prince Harry’s relationship with the press. According to the UK’s Daily Mail, the Royal Family has been angered by the BBC’s refusal to show them The Princes and the Press before it airs tonight and have said they may withdraw co-operation for future projects. They are concerned the documentary will feature the two princes, one of whom now lives in LA, briefing against each other, according to reports. A BBC spokesman said: “The programme is about how royal journalism is done and features a range of journalists from broadcast and the newspaper industry.” The BBC’s relationship with the Royal Family is already strained following the Martin Bashir / Princess Diana scandal that re-erupted earlier this year.

The London world premiere of “No Time to Die” will stream exclusively on Facebook, Variety can reveal.

The social media platform has secured access to the live red carpet at London’s Royal Albert Hall on Tuesday (Sept. 28), and will broadcast the event on both Facebook and through Oculus Venues, an experiential space for the Facebook-backed Oculus VR headset.

The red carpet will broadcast from 5:30 p.m. to 7:05 p.m. local time, and the show will be hosted by presenter Clara Amfo. The production will incorporate Facebook’s social video tools, such as live comments, captioning and Q&As.

Global superstar Billie Eilish will be premiering a new BBC special this weekend, that'll be hosted by Radio 1 DJ Clara Amfo. The special, titled Billie Eilish: Up Close, is set to be broadcast in support of Eilish's second studio album, Happier Than Ever, which will be released on July 30, and will even coincide with the singer's first ever appearance in the BBC Radio 1 live lounge. It all sounds pretty historic, if you ask us.

"In this 45-minute entertainment special filmed in Billie's home town of Los Angeles, BBC Radio 1 DJ Clara Amfo will talk to Billie about her latest album Happier Than Ever, her extraordinary rise to fame, looking back at her remarkable success, the effect it has had on her life and her role as an inspiration for young people all over the world," the official release confirmed.

BBC Three is set to air a comedy special celebrating mockumentary series “People Just Do Nothing.”

“Kurupting the Industry: The People Just Do Nothing Story” will follow the group of DJs and MCs behind pirate radio station Kurupt FM. Starring Allan Mustafa, Asim Chaudhry, Hugo Chegwin and Steve Stamp, the first episode of the popular series aired in 2012 on BBC iPlayer and was soon followed by five hit seasons.

The special will also feature celebrity fans including BBC DJ Clara Amfo, “The Hobbit” star Martin Freeman, rapper Dizzee Rascal and singer Craig David.

A feature based on the show, “People Just Do Nothing: Big in Japan,” is set for theatrical release on Aug. 18.

“Kurupting the Industry: The People Just Do Nothing Story” is made by Roughcut TV for BBC Three. Director of BBC comedy, Shane Allen, and BBC Three controller Fiona Campbell commissioned the special.

The 2021 Brit Awards are in full swing tonight, and there have already been some pretty wonderful moments. Ahead of the award show, Yasmin Evans, Aj Odudu, Maya Jama, and Clara Amfo interviewed stars on the red carpet, including ultimate girl band Haim.

Tailored suits, flowing hair, and overall cool girl vibes are all things that you'd expect from Haim on the red carpet, but what you wouldn't expect, is that the girls are pretty big fans of Craig David. When Yasmin told the girls that Craig would be in attendance and performing, Este had to take some time to process, hilariously walking away from the mic. Haim then proceeded to sing along to "7 Days," aka a Craig David classic, which was pretty impressive.

This past weekend, singer, songwriter and actor Leslie Odom Jr. performed “Speak Now” at the BAFTA Awards as part of its opening night ceremony. The evening was hosted by radio and TV presenter Clara Amfo in a virtual ceremony.

Speaking at the Variety Artisans Awards last week, the double Oscar nominee said he and fellow songwriter Sam Ashworth had two weeks to come up with an end song for Regina King’s directorial debut, “One Night in Miami.”

The Ee BAFTA Film Awards officially took place on 11 April 2021, just a few months ahead of the television awards ceremony, which will be held later this year. On 9 March, the nominees for each film category were announced, including the highly anticipated Rising Star award, which previously saw Top Boy star Michael Ward take the win back in 2020.

Strong contenders for this year's awards ceremony included Nomadland and coming-of-age drama Rocks both with seven nominations, followed by Minari with six total nominations. Riz Ahmed's Sound of Metal was nominated for three awards, including a nomination for Ahmed himself as best actor.

On 10 April, a number of the award winners, including casting, costume design, and British short animation, were announced in a small ceremony hosted by Clara Amfo.

It’s been a strange year, but cinema endures. The 2021 British Academy Film and Television Awards took place at the Royal Albert Hall on the 11th of April, 2021. In a first in BAFTA history, four women have been nominated in the Director category, including Nomadland director Chloe Zhao, Sarah Gavron for Rocks, and Shannon Murphy for Babyteeth. Other notable nominees include Promising Young Woman, The Trial of the Chicago 7, The Father, Saint Maud and Minari. It is a diverse line up, and a very unusual time but the red carpets are rolling out, even if they are in living rooms around the world.

Yesterday director Ang Lee was entered into the BAFTA Fellowship, and Noel Clarke was awarded the Outstanding British Contribution to cinema. This evening Edith Bowman and Dermot O’Leary hosted the awards and it was a delight to see Yun-Jung Youn’s incredible win for her role in Minari.

“Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” “Mank,” “Rocks,” “Tenet” and “Sound of Metal” were among the winners at Saturday’s BAFTA Opening Night 2021 ceremony, the first of two ceremonies at which the Ee British Academy Film Awards will be handed out.

The Opening Night ceremony handed out awards in six below-the-line and two short-film categories. In the Btl categories, “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” won for costume design and for makeup and hairstyling, “Rocks” for casting, “Mank” for production design, “Sound of Metal” for sound and “Tenet” for visual effects.

The short-film awards went to the Oscar-nominated film “The Present” as the best British short and “The Owl and the Pussycat” as the best British animated short.

The virtual ceremony was hosted by British radio and television presenter Clara Amfo and also included a performance of the Oscar-nominated song “Speak Now” by “One Night in Miami” and “Hamilton” star Leslie Odom Jr.

Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom picked up two prizes at the opening night of the 2021 Bafta Film Awards in London, which focused on the craft categories.

The US film, directed by George C. Wolfe, won both the awards for which it was nominated: costume design for the work of Ann Roth; and make-up and hair, recognising Matiki Anoff, Larry M. Cherry, Sergio Lopez-Rivera and Mia Neal.

The music drama and Netflix title is up for one more prize at the main ceremony tomorrow, for late leading actor Chadwick Boseman.

The film tells the story of Chick Donahue, who left New York in 1967 to bring beer to his childhood buddies in the Army — while they are fighting in Vietnam. Donohue took a good idea to the extreme, hitching a ride on a Merchant Marine ship, then carrying the beer through the jungle as he tried to track down his three friends. Dressed in shorts and Hawaiian shirts, he was mistaken for CIA, which made his effort a bit easier.
