Is Richard Osman’s House of Games the perfect teatime quiz show? It’s certainly in contention. Silly, funny and warm, it makes very good company. The armchairs exude a sense of convivial relaxation. There are no flashing-lights podiums or tense burden of cash prizes, making it a wholly gentler experience than, say, The Chase. It keeps the same four contestants all week long, meaning that the kind of rapport other quiz shows try to manufacture in rapid-fire Q&As with the host can naturally develop. The personalities and relationships are almost as important as the rounds and questions, and it’s all done with a sense of humour – from the deliberately naff 1970s gameshow-style fondue sets and carriage clock prizes, to the enjoyable silliness behind almost every round.

The 2023 BAFTA TV Awards are here with the red carpet just kicking off in London where the British version of the Emmys will be hosted by comedians Romesh Ranganathan and Rob Beckett. Usually, this event is paired with a classically grey and gloomy British sky despite being held annually in May. Today, however, the red carpet is shining brightly in the Spring sun as those of us here in the media center at the Royal Festival Hall, where this year’s TV BAFTAs are held, swelter at our laptops.
Down on the red carpet, Michelle Visage and Clara Amfo welcome viewers and guests alike as the first stars of this year’s awards begin to trickle in here in Waterloo, just beside the London Eye. There is a real mix of stars in attendance today. There are British TV presenters including “Strictly Come Dancing” judge Motsi Mabuse as well as...

On Sunday, Helen Mirren led a special tribute to Queen Elizabeth II during the 76th annual BAFTA Awards that moved Prince William to tears.
“Cinema at its best does what Her Majesty did effortlessly – bring us together and unite us through a story. Your Majesty, you were our nation’s leading star,” the actress, who previously won a BAFTA for her portrayal of the late royal, said of the Queen, who died at the age of 96 on Sept. 8, 2022.
“BAFTAs relationship with Her Majesty was longstanding and BAFTA would not be what it is today without her loyal support,” she went on to say. “In 1953 her coronation broadcast had the world watching, from that time, she was unquestionably the nation’s leading lady. But was mysterious as a silent film star.”

The BBC has confirmed that this year’s Top of the Pops Christmas Special will still go ahead despite reports that it had been axed.
The festive special will air as usual, hosted by BBC Radio 1’s Clara Amfo and Jack Saunders.
Top of the Pops stopped being broadcast weekly in 2006, but has continued to air its festive special annually.
In a series of reports this week, it was claimed that the show will be shelved, per an article published in The Sun. The piece alleged that “BBC Scrooges” had axed the special after 57 years on TV.
A source told the publication: “[BBC] bosses felt the cost involved in creating a one-off show like this were too high to justify. Creating the studio and bringing together a string of artists to perform for just this programme required a disproportionate amount of resources.”
“It will be seen as the sad end...

The 2022 Brit Awards was a night filled with good music and fun moments at the O2 Arena in London, hosted by Mo Gilligan - with the help of Maya Jama - and held in front of an audience of nominees, presenters, and key workers.
It's be the second time the BRITs has taken place in real life since the pandemic, and we weren't disappointed with the great lineup of performances, including best new artist winner Little Simz, BRITs rising star Holly Humberstone, and best rock/alternative act Sam Fender - to name a few. The roster of live presenters was pretty great, too. Idris Elba, Celeste, Tom Daley, Mo Farrah, and Clara Amfo were among the many.

BBC Three returns as a broadcast channel on Feb. 1 with a renewed focus on youth.
“BBC Three was always focused on that under-35 demographic historically, and so that’s definitely a core part of our DNA,” says BBC Three controller Fiona Campbell. “The new iteration of where we’re at creatively – we’re focusing on 25s and under. That’s our creative sweet spot because it’s a very specific stage of life.”
Campbell, speaking at a media round table, added that the commissions for the channel are from across U.K. regions. They include “Conversations With Friends,” another coming-of-age Sally Rooney adaptation after the success of “Normal People”; “Hungry For It,” a food competition format featuring Big Zuu, Stacey Dooley and Kayla Greer; “The Drop,” a streetwear competition with Clara Amfo and Miguel; and vehicle based show “Gassed Up” hosted by Mist.

According to the UK’s Daily Mail, the Royal Family has been angered by the BBC’s refusal to show them The Princes and the Press before it airs tonight and have said they may withdraw co-operation for future projects. They are concerned the documentary will feature the two princes, one of whom now lives in LA, briefing against each other, according to reports. A BBC spokesman said: “The programme is about how royal journalism is done and features a range of journalists from broadcast and the newspaper industry.” The BBC’s relationship with the Royal Family is already strained following the Martin Bashir / Princess Diana scandal that re-erupted earlier this year.

The 2021 Brit Awards are in full swing tonight, and there have already been some pretty wonderful moments. Ahead of the award show, Yasmin Evans, Aj Odudu, Maya Jama, and Clara Amfo interviewed stars on the red carpet, including ultimate girl band Haim.
Tailored suits, flowing hair, and overall cool girl vibes are all things that you'd expect from Haim on the red carpet, but what you wouldn't expect, is that the girls are pretty big fans of Craig David. When Yasmin told the girls that Craig would be in attendance and performing, Este had to take some time to process, hilariously walking away from the mic. Haim then proceeded to sing along to "7 Days," aka a Craig David classic, which was pretty impressive.
Fans thought so too as they shared their hilarious thoughts on Twitter basically saying the things that we were all thinking.
And *this* is why we are forever obsessed with @HAIMtheband!

This past weekend, singer, songwriter and actor Leslie Odom Jr. performed “Speak Now” at the BAFTA Awards as part of its opening night ceremony. The evening was hosted by radio and TV presenter Clara Amfo in a virtual ceremony.
Speaking at the Variety Artisans Awards last week, the double Oscar nominee said he and fellow songwriter Sam Ashworth had two weeks to come up with an end song for Regina King’s directorial debut, “One Night in Miami.”
Of the Academy Award-nominated song, Odom Jr. said, “She (Regina King) showed us an early cut of her beautiful film and we went to work. We only had two weeks. If you use your time well, a week is plenty of time; there are a lot of hours in a week. It’s been a strange year, but cinema endures. The 2021 British Academy Film and Television Awards took place at the Royal Albert Hall on the 11th of April, 2021. In a first in BAFTA history, four women have been nominated in the Director category, including Nomadland director Chloe Zhao, Sarah Gavron for Rocks, and Shannon Murphy for Babyteeth. Other notable nominees include Promising Young Woman, The Trial of the Chicago 7, The Father, Saint Maud and Minari. It is a diverse line up, and a very unusual time but the red carpets are rolling out, even if they are in living rooms around the world.
Yesterday director Ang Lee was entered into the BAFTA Fellowship, and Noel Clarke was awarded the Outstanding British Contribution to cinema. This evening Edith Bowman and Dermot O’Leary hosted the awards and it was a delight to see Yun-Jung Youn’s incredible win for her role in Minari.

The unconventional 74th BAFTAs held its first of two ceremonies tonight, with eight awards handed out in the craft categories, plus the Outstanding Contribution to Cinema prize. Scroll down for the list of winners. The main awards take place tomorrow (April 11).
Host Clara Amfo opened proceedings by paying tribute to the late Prince Philip, who died yesterday at the age of 99. The Duke of Edinburgh was BAFTA’s first president 60 years ago, beginning a line of Royal patronage which continues with his son Prince William, who had been scheduled to make an appearance during the awards tonight and tomorrow but has pulled out after yesterday’s news.
Rocks was the first winner this eve, with Lucy Pardee scooping the award for Casting. The UK indie movie was nominated for a leading seven BAFTAs this year, joint most with Nomadland, which is a hot favorite for the Best Film prize tomorrow.

Zac Efron and Russell Crowe are currently in negotiations to star in ‘Green Book’ filmmaker Peter Farrelly’s ‘The Greatest Beer Run Ever’ at Apple Studios.
The casting bods on the project are also eyeing Bill Murray for a supporting role.
The film tells the story of Chick Donahue, who left New York in 1967 to bring beer to his childhood buddies in the Army — while they are fighting in Vietnam. Donohue took a good idea to the extreme, hitching a ride on a Merchant Marine ship, then carrying the beer through the jungle as he tried to track down his three friends. Dressed in shorts and Hawaiian shirts, he was mistaken for CIA, which made his effort a bit easier.
Efron would take on the lead role of Donahue.
