NBC’s “Brilliant Minds” is continuing to grow its cast. The medical drama has added Mandy Patinkin in a recurring role, and Steve Howey and André De Shields as guest stars, showrunner Michael Grassi announced on Sunday at the Television Critics Assn. press tour in Pasadena.
Both Howey and Patinkin will star in two episodes.
Patinkin will play an esteemed family doctor who joins the staff of Bronx General Hospital and brings his own “unconventional methods to the workplace.” According to the press release, “his affinity for house calls and long-standing patient relationships wins the respect of our lead, Dr. Wolf, and fosters a mentor-like relationship between the two men.” According to Grassi, he “really shakes up our world.”
Howey portrays a “rugged motorcycle mechanic” who comes to Dr. Wolf looking for help with a gunshot wound and is “forced to make a heartbreaking decision.” De Shields plays “an Alzheimer...

As a small-screen veteran, Zachary Quinto is no stranger to building a television persona, much like the role in Heroes that made him a household name.
The actor then went on to be a veteran of the hit horror show American Horror Story, appearing in multiple seasons starting as early as 2022, during the show's eleventh season.
Now, the TV titan is trying his hand at a medical drama, which has become its own creature in the television industry.
But if there's one thing the actor is good at, it's coming across as calm and collected, much like his character Spock from the Star Trek films.
Brilliant Minds is on NBC's fall line-up, and here is everything we know about the show so far!
What Is Brilliant Minds about?

As inspirational college sports movies go, “Heart of the Champions” doesn’t go, or row, nearly far enough off the beaten path. It’s every bit as boilerplate as its generic title might indicate, distinguished only by its focus on an underdog rowing team rather than the amateur baseball, basketball, football or hockey players usually involved in similar scenarios. There’s just so much even a fine actor like Michael Shannon can do to freshen such stale material, even when he’s given a plum role as a demanding coach who expects the impossible from his young charges. Of course, he might have been able to do more had he also been given more screen time, but, alas, we’ll never know.
The time is 1999-2000, and the place is the fictional Beeston University, an institution of higher learning that desperately needs a new coach after its rowing team finishes...

"Your are gonna learn something that can't be taught in a book or classroom." Vertical Entertainment has released an official trailer for Heart of Champions, a sports drama formerly known as Swing before this release retitle. This recently premiered at the Oldenburg Film Festival a few months ago. The film is about a trouble rowing crew. During their last year at an Ivy League college in 1999, a group of friends and crew teammates' lives are changed forever when an army vet takes over as coach of their dysfunctional rowing team. Michael Shannon stars as Coach Murphy, with a cast including Alexander Ludwig, Charles Melton, Alex MacNicoll, Ash Santos, Lilly Krug, and David James Elliott. This doesn't seem like it has anything new to offer, just another story of a team learning to play together to be better, like so many other sports movies before. And it's produced by the Winklevoss twins,...

This contemporary western about a young Texan fugitive who flees south of the border is handsomely shot but didactic
Just north of the border between the United States and Mexico, the Greer family – patriarch Bill (Frank Grillo), mom Monica (Andie MacDowell), and grown sons Lucas (Alex MacNicoll) and Jackson (Jake Allyn) – work the land as ranchers. They raise cattle, ride horses and, being red-blooded Texan types, play sports – in Jackson’s case well enough that he’s got a chance to go pro as a baseball player. They also spend the odd evening riding the range with a vigilante militia group, rounding up immigrants who may have crossed the border illegally, to “help” the border patrols. On one such night, Jackson joins his dad and big brother, even though they try to keep him out of this sort of thing so he can get out of Dodge and become a...

A nice-enough young man kills a nice boy. One is Mexican, the other white. One will be buried. The other will learn an edifying lesson about bias. Can you guess which is which? The Tex-Mex border drama “No Man’s Land” — in select theaters, on digital platforms and VOD — arrives at a time when the good intentions of white filmmakers are often not good enough to address the grievances of filmgoers of color. Filmmaking brothers Conor and Jake Allyn strive to take on — and humanize — the tensions around migration in their drama that starts off in the titular area between the Rio Grande and the Texas border and then follows its hero on a reverse migration south into Mexico.
Rending events and soulful reckoning take place for all concerned, but the movie’s most dire consequences are reserved for characters who are Mexican. That says something about the filmmaker’s ambitions...

Conor and Jake Allyn ride into AFM with “No Man’s Land,” a drama set on the border of Texas and Mexico that delves into issues about immigration and family and cultures through the straight-up chase-thriller lens. But “No Man’s Land,” directed by Conor and co-written by Jake, gives audiences a nuanced look at life along the border, while not taking sides and turning a lens on life in Mexico that’s rarely seen in a U.S. film.
In the film, Jackson (played by Jake), is a promising pitching prospect for the Yankees, but he loves life on his family ranch along the Rio Grande. His parents (Frank Grillo and Andie MacDowell) and brother Lucas (Alex MacNicoll) do everything to help him grab that life off the ranch. They are used to smugglers routing immigrants through their property, but one night, an incident turns deadly and Jackson flees for Mexico.

Exclusive: Andie MacDowell is set as a lead opposite Margaret Qualley in Maid, Netflix’s dramedy series from writer Molly Smith Metzler, John Wells Productions, Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television.
In the first on-screen pairing of the mother-daughter acting duo, MacDowell will play Qualley’s mom.
Written by Metzler, Maid is inspired by Stephanie Land’s bestselling memoir Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother’s Will to Survive. It revolves around Alex (Qualley), a single mother who turns to housekeeping to — barely — make ends meet as she battles against poverty, homelessness, and bureaucracy. Told primarily through her point of view, Maid is described as a beautiful, alive, gritty and inspiring exploration of poverty in America.
MacDowell plays Alex’s mother, Paula, a self-proclaimed artist, who is the life of every party. She is eccentric, passionate, scrappy, and unabashed about her sexuality, which attracts an endless rotation of boyfriends.

A clueless but well-intentioned teenager looking for a purpose meets a beautiful but deeply troubled twentysomething woman with a violent boyfriend, and you could be forgiven for thinking you've seen this one before. It's a well-trodden path in film noir and this film has, in particular, a great deal in common with Blue Velvet, with whole scenes that play out in very similar ways. That's not to say that there's no reason to watch it, however. Writer director Van Ditthavong certainly knows how to create atmosphere and noir was always about style over substance.
Brandon (Alex MacNicoll) is a high school student whose brother has died, whose father has left and whose mother takes out all her distress and frustration on him. He's getting through it all by devoting himself to wrestling, the only thing at which he has much talent, in the kind of forsaken small town that makes.

It’s impossible to watch Haley Lu Richardson and not see that she’s a star in the making. She just has that “it factor” about her. In a fairly short period of time, she’s established herself as someone to really watch. Richardson is rarely given starring roles, so far at least, so the new release Unpregnant is a welcome tonic to that. Coming as one of the first original releases for streamer HBO Max, it’s a lovely mix of comedy and drama, utilizing some silly elements as a delivery system for an angry message about the state of female health in America. Unsurprisingly, it’s all very well done, anchored by Richardson in a role that should only increase her profile in Hollywood. The film is a road trip comedy, with a bit of a twist, based on the novel by Ted Caplan and Jenni Hendriks. A...

For the first time in her high school career, 17-year-old valedictorian Veronica (Haley Lu Richardson) has flunked a test. That blue positive sign means she’s pregnant, and now she wants a redo — to become “Unpregnant,” in the words of director Rachel Lee Goldenberg (“Valley Girl”), who has a flair for the flip understatement. Goldenberg’s road-trip comedy, based on the novel by Jenni Hendriks and Ted Caplan, has no time for hemming and hawing. To obtain an abortion without her conservative parents’ permission, the popular blonde must make a 2,000-mile drive from Missouri to New Mexico in 48 hours, which, with Type-a aplomb, she calculates is doable if she stops only for bathroom breaks and, like, the actual procedure.
But Veronica’s plan for a speedy, super-secret abortion has one flaw: The only person able to chauffeur is her former best friend Bailey (Barbie Ferreira), a punkish screw-up who hasn...

The world really has changed. Just eight months after Eliza Hittman’s searing “Never Rarely Sometimes Always” made its debut at Sundance, becoming one of the year’s best films in the process, fledgling streamer HBO Max has already unveiled its own much more comedic take on the apparently booming “abortion road trip” subgenre. But while Rachel Lee Goldenberg’s comedy might sound like a lighter spin on Hittman’s earthy drama,

There's been a change of plans at Netflix. The streaming service previously renewed The Society TV series for a second season. Now, those plans have been cancelled due to Covid-19.
A mystery drama, The Society stars Rachel Keller, Kathryn Newton, Alex Fitzalan, Kristine Froseth, Jacques Colimon, Sean Berdy, Toby Wallace, Gideon Adlon, Olivia DeJonge, Alex MacNicoll, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Jose Julian, Salena Qureshi, Jack Mulhern, and Grace Victoria Cox. This modern retelling of Lord of the Flies centers on students from a wealthy New England enclave, who return home from a scrubbed camping trip to find everyone they left behind has vanished. While at first, they decide to take advantage of the situation, it soon becomes clear they need to establish some sort of social order, while they figure out what has happened to them and where they really are.

“The Society” will not return for a second season as planned at Netflix, while the streamer is also not moving forward with a second season of “I Am Not Okay With This,” Variety has confirmed.
“I Am Not Okay With This” had been renewed after its first season aired back in February, but its renewal had not been announced. “The Society” had been picked up for a second season last July. The team behind “I Am Not Okay With This” had already begun work on writing a second season.
According to an individual with knowledge of the decisions, both shows were well liked internally at Netflix in addition to the critical acclaim they received upon release, but the plug was pulled on both due to the uncertainty around when they could begin production due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The pandemic also leading to added budget increases for health and safety reasons.

"It's my life, it's my choice." HBO Max has released a trailer for their next big comedy movie (following An American Pickle) debuting on the new streaming service - starting in early September. It was inevitable that one day someone would make an abortion comedy, and here we go, it's already ready for release. Haley Lu Richardson stars as a 17-year-old high-school student named Veronica who finds out she's pregnant and reaches out to her ex-best friend Bailey for help. They decide to embark on a road trip for 14 hours to New Mexico to a clinic that can help her. Barbie Ferreira co-stars as Bailey, and the cast includes Sugar Lyn Beard, Breckin Meyer, Ramona Young, Alex MacNicoll, and Jeryl Prescott. This kind of seems like Booksmart mashed up with Never Rarely Sometimes Always, which is a bit unexpected, but may just work. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Rachel Lee Goldenberg's Unpregnant,...

Haley Lu Richardson in ‘Unpregnant’ Trailer Gives a Buddy Comedy Spin on Teen Abortion Drama (Video)
Though there’s already a very serious looking drama about teen abortion called “Never Rarely Sometimes Always” that opened this year, the first trailer for the new film “Unpregnant” starring Haley Lu Richardson gives a road trip, buddy comedy spin on the same story.
Richardson stars alongside Barbie Ferreira in a comedy coming to HBO Max in which Richardson plays a straight-a student and popular kids who enlists her more rebellious, former best friend (Ferreira) to get an abortion over 1,000 miles in New Mexico. Of course in this story, they end up on the run from the cops, in a stolen Trans-Am and even trying to jump aboard a moving train on their trip to get the procedure done.
“There’s an Albuquerque in Missouri? The law won’t let me get one without my parents knowing,” Richardson says in the trailer. “It’s my life, it’s my choice.

HBO Max is continuing to round out its original film programming, adding a fresh new comedy from “Valley Girl” remake filmmaker Rachel Lee Goldenberg and rising stars Haley Lu Richardson and Barbie Ferreira to its upcoming slate. “Unpregnant” puts a humorous spin on a tough, timely topic, but promises to do it with a generous dash of humor. The film’s first trailer offers a funny first look at a fresh take on the young adult novel of the same name, written by authors Jenni Hendriks (“How I Met Your Mother”) and Ted Caplan (music editor for “The Hate U Give” and “The Greatest Showman”).
The film follows Richardson’s Veronica, a Missouri teen who is shocked to discover she is pregnant, and who sets off on a road trip with her former best pal Bailey (Ferreira) in hopes of securing an abortion so that she can continue to pursue her Ivy League college dreams.

Sleeping in Plastic is an upcoming dramatic thriller from director and photographer Van Ditthavong . In the film, a local high school wrestler finds himself in a destructive relationship. That relationship begins a violent downward spiral, in a small Texas town. In July, a trailer was released for Sleeping in Plastic (found below). As well, the film stars: Addison Timlin (Odd Thomas), Corin Nemec (Rottentail), Dash Mihok, Alex Macnicoll and Nick Chinlund. Now, the film is set to have its World Premiere, in Austin, this October. Ditthavong has worked as a freelance photographer, for the Texas Monthly. His experiences in this state have led to the creation of this film's story: "it is my ode to the darker side of Texas and my answer to what happens when our definitions of love, lust, and loss all blend together." These elements lead to lots of conflict as seen in the film's trailer.

Their newfound freedom will be fun, but it will also be very dangerous. As they struggle to figure out what has happened to them and how to get home, they must establish order and form alliances if they want to survive.
