The series, which also stars John Lithgow, Amy Brenneman and Alia Shawkat, became largely a victim of circumstance. Over its two seasons, The Old Man’s production was halted several times.

Its seven-episode first season started filming in 2019 and had three episodes left when it shut down at the start of the pandemic and later that year for star Bridges’ cancer treatment.

The Old Man launched on FX in June 2022, scoring the most-watched cable series premiere since January 2021, beating 60 other premium and basic cable dramas, comedies and limited series, while also becoming the most-watched FX series debut on Hulu in its opening weekend.

Exclusive: Filming on Season 2 of the FX drama series The Old Man, starring Jeff Bridges, is being suspended. We hear the crew of the series, produced by 20th Television, were alerted this morning of the decision to stop after today’s shoot, completing Episode 204.

According to sources, the plan had been to film through Episode 205 as five Season 2 scripts had been completed before the writers strike started on June 2. However, the last remaining script needed rewrites, so production will wrap now for the foreseeable future. It will resume sometime after the WGA work stoppage is over.

The set of the show in Santa Clarita has been picketed, causing some delays in production last Thursday. Accompanied by a producer, Bridges crossed the picket line in a van that day.

Actor Jeff Bridges shared the good news early Monday that his cancer is now in remission and his battle against Covid “is in the rearview mirror.” The Oscar-winning “Crazy Heart” star and “The Big Lebowski” icon revealed a diagnosis of lymphoma back in October 2020. The thriller series is based on the novel “Six Days of the Condor.” The first season will air on Epix in March, with Season 2 coming later in 2021.

In January, WarnerMedia shuttered AT&T Audience Network, which was home to series including “Loudermilk” and “Mr. Mercedes,” and instead turned it into a promotional network for HBO Max. Peacock picked up the first two seasons of “Mr. Mercedes” earlier this year, but has no plans to continue the the Stephen King-inspired series.

Busy Australian star Sam Worthington has signed up for the thriller CounterPlay (formerly Escape), which Blue Fox Entertainment is selling at the Efm and marks the first international feature produced by Mam Media in association with BlackOps Studios Asia.

Worthington, whose credits include the Avatar franchise and Terminator Salvation and just signed to Alphas, will play a former kidnap and hostage negotiator who comes out of retirement to help get a young man accused of drug trafficking out of the Philippines and back to Australia.

CounterPlay is scheduled to shoot in Manila in the Philippines in August.

Blue Fox Entertainment has acquired worldwide rights to the crime thriller Still Here with a cast that includes rising star Zazie Beetz from Joker and recent Sundance premiere Nine Days, Johnny Whitworth, and Maurice McRae.

The Blue Fox team will launch sales in Berlin on the Atelier 44 production about a man who enlists the help of a journalist to find his missing daughter. Afton Williamson and Larry Pine round out the key cast and Vlad Feier directs.

Fremantle is partnering with Hulu to bring the UK drama “Baghdad Central” to the United States, Fremantle announced Monday.

The latest in Hulu’s growing slate of international content, “Baghdad Central” will launch on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom and stream on Hulu in 2020.

Based on the novel by Elliott Colla, the six-part drama is set in Baghdad in 2003, after a six-month United States occupation — and the disbandment of the Iraqi army, the police and civil leadership — which leaves no one in charge and no effective rule of law.
