“Paris is always a good idea,” said Audrey Hepburn in Billy Wilder’s 1954 flick Sabrina, but let’s be real—Emily in Paris has taken that idea and turned it into a Netflix cocktail that’s part chaos, part glamour, and entirely addictive. It’s like you’ve had the most delicious glass of rosé and now you’re scrambling to catch up with all the drama, romance, and French clichés that somehow feel like a breath of fresh air.
From the moment Emily arrives in the City of Lights, she dives headfirst into a pool of glitter, lattes, love triangles, and picture-perfect disasters that are just begging to be shared on Instagram.

The creative team behind Emily in Paris is hard at work on the show’s upcoming fifth season, and it seems they have some exciting plans in place for one beloved member of the cast who was criminally underutilized in the show’s fourth season!
Deadline has reported Lucien Laviscount will be returning for Emily in Paris season 5 and not just in a guest role. Per the report, Laviscount is returning as a series regular which seems to hint we hopefully will be seeing more of British transplant Alfie in the next season.
While Alfie was a part of season 4, Lasiscount’s role in the show’s more recent season was seriously reduced which was due in part to his status shifting to recurring for season 4. The fourth season of Emily in Paris saw Emily and Alfie officially calling it quits after the fallout of the season 3 finale.

Deadline reports that he will be back as a series regular for the fifth season, though it’s not yet clear if he’ll still be a love interest for Emily or if he’s mainly there as Antoine’s business associate.

Exclusive: That looming new love triangle for Emily may become a rectangle. Fan favorite Alfie will have a larger presence in the upcoming fifth season as the actor who portrays him, Lucien Laviscount, has made a deal to rejoin the cast as a series regular, Deadline has learned.
Alfie, a sarcastic and charmingly cynical British transplant to Paris, was introduced in Season 2 of the hit Netflix romantic comedy series as a recurring character. Brit Laviscount was upped to a series regular in Season 3 as Emily (Lily Collins) found herself torn between him and her longtime crush, Gabriel (Lucas Bravo). Largely for scheduling reasons, Laviscount again became recurring in Season 4, appearing in four episodes, including the season premiere and finale.
Season 4 kicked off with Emily trying to make amends with Alfie after the bombshell at Camille and Gabriel’s ill-fated wedding. He was finally ready to forgive Emily and take her back at the masquerade ball,...

When Netflix first started releasing its own original scripted content, the streamer did so with the revolutionary concept of binge-watching. Every episode was released all at once! We didn't have to wait a week in between new episodes! We could watch at our own pace! It was great, and still is, but Netflix has introduced a new release pattern for some of its shows: the split season.
Netflix introduced the two-part release strategy for its shows long before the actors' and writers' strikes impacted the film and television industry in 2023. Money Heist released its seasons in parts, as did comedies The Ranch and Fuller House, but those instances of split seasons were nothing compared to those we're seeing now.
The decision to divide Stranger Things season 4 into two parts in the summer of 2022 seemed to ignite the idea and put it into practice in a major way.The Witcher season...

In “Freedom,” Bruno Sulak’s life unfolds in the setting of France on the edge of social upheaval in the late 1970s and early 1980s, like a tapestry made of threads of courage and charm. Sulak, a figure of both infamy and fascination, emerges as a thief and a modern-day Robin Hood, representing a paradox of infamy and civility.

When the dawn of a new year approaches and you take stock of the shows yet to be renewed or canceled, you never want to jinx these shows by predicting their fate. As an outspoken Emily in Paris fan, I don't want to put it out into the universe that the show — gulp — ends with season 5 or gets abruptly canceled, but sometimes... you have to call it like you see it.

Other shows that aren't so lucky to reach veteran status could find themselves teetering on the edge of no return, while some are sadly sitting ducks no matter how beloved.

Emily in Paris season 5 now has some major updates, including the filming start window and Lucas Bravo's potential return as Gabriel. The hit Netflix show follows Emily Cooper (Lily Collins), a Chicago marketing executive who tries to juggle her glamorous life in Paris with complicated romantic and professional challenges. Season 4 saw Emily embark on a new adventure, moving to Rome with her new beau Marcello, following her tumultuous love triangle with Gabriel and Camille (Camille Razat). However, recently, Bravo made frustrating comments about the direction of his character, questioning the possibility of returning for Emily in Paris season 5.
Now, Variety revealed that Emily in Paris is coming back to Paris for its upcoming season, although it will also film in Rome, where the titular character left off in the season 4 finale. Filming is set to begin in the first week of May next year with its usual key crew.

Netflix has submitted a total of 32 TV programs for awards consideration at the upcoming Golden Globes, and 20 for the Screen Actors Guild Awards, Gold Derby has learned exclusively.
Some of the streamer’s notable TV titles include Season 2 of “Squid Game,” the survival thriller starring Emmy and SAG winner Lee Jung-jae; popular new comedy “Nobody Wants This,” about an agnostic woman (Kristen Bell) and an unconventional rabbi (Adam Brody); and “Baby Reindeer,” the buzzy limited series that recently set the Emmys on fire, going home with six trophies. See the full list of submissions below, broken down by show.
Note that the Golden Globes have lead actor and lead actress categories that are separated by TV genres (drama/comedy/limited), but that the supporting actor and supporting actress races encapsulate all genres. On bad days when heartbreak seems to make the world too gloomy, there's nothing more comforting than binge-watching a feel-good romance TV show. The long format provides space for creators to flesh out the characters and for the narrative to be further developed, so the story is engrossing. Getting invested in one of the best romance TV shows based on books is the perfect way to deal with feeling low. The warmth of a feel-good romance show almost permeates through the screen like a stray ray of sunshine streaking in through the window on a cold winter morning.
It's not possible to exaggerate how soothing it feels to watch characters go through dramatic highs and lows as they navigate relationships, eventually finding a happy ending for themselves. With complete side characters that make the world of a show feel lived in, and the dynamics well explored, a standard show can also provide good,...

With the exception of maybe Bruno Mars, it would be nearly impossible for any artist to sustain a healthy career with one foot forever planted in the 1980s. And so it came to pass that, after a decade of playful sex comedies, capped with his era-defining “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown,” that famed flamboyant ally Pedro Almodóvar would reluctantly move into the next decade with a more focused direction. Where, oh where, will we get our goofy, uneven sex satires from now?
Enter salvation in 2024 from an unlikely source: Noémie Merlant, the French performer primarily known for her acting in the achingly somber “Portrait of a Lady on Fire,” takes the reins—with the help of her “Portrait” director Céline Sciamma as co-writer—for “The Balconettes,” a fiery ode to the silliness of Almodóvar’s formative decade, with a distinctly modern take on female autonomy beneath the crushing bulk of patriarchal violence.

Charm drips from every single frame of Melanie Laurent’s 2024 film, Freedom (or Libre in Spanish). Most of the credit for that goes to its lead star, Lucas Bravo of Emily in Paris fame. I am unfamiliar with the Netflix show, but if this movie is anything to go by, the guy is a proper movie star, having both the looks to bring the house down and acting chops to keep you glued to your seat. Laurent has mounted Freedom in a very hyper-stylized manner, that it almost feels like watching a James Bond movie from back in the day. Except Bond is the suave criminal here, and this is a true story. Bruno Sulak, on whom Freedom is based, used to be known as the ‘gentleman robber’ for always maintaining a non-violent approach. We’re going to look into the true story before discussing Freedom‘s ending.

Mélanie Laurent’s follow-up to last year’s Wingwomen sees the actress-turned-filmmaker going for the Bonnie and Clyde-style caper in Freedom, a true-crime drama inspired by Bruno Sulak. Dubbed “the gentleman robber”, he earned that nickname since he doesn’t resort to violence and killing his victims upon committing a robbery. Played by the charming Lucas Bravo, best known for his role as Gabriel in TV’s Emily in Paris, his character is first seen robbing a grocery store with the help of his friend and accomplice Drago (Steve Tientchier). His girlfriend Annie (Léa Luce Busato) is responsible for driving as she sits and waits in the getaway car.
Here, Laurent opens her movie with a sensual close-up shot of Annie as the camera rotates while focusing on her pouty red lips and beautiful face, showcasing the director’s firm grasp on magnetic visuals. There’s a buoyant energy during the opening robbery scene,...

“Freedom” is a French romantic thriller movie starring Lucas Bravo and Léa Luce Busato. It is directed by Mélanie Laurent.
The versatile Mélanie Laurent both writes and directs this enchanting film about charming and seductive thieves. Set against the backdrop of the 1980s, it draws inspiration from the life of the renowned thief Bruno Sulak, although, as noted at the beginning of the movie, it is a loose adaptation of the real events and the gang it portrays.
“Freedom” is more than just a thriller; it is, at its heart, a love story, a romantic film filled with impossible loves and poignant tragedies. The central character is a captivating, poetic, and passionate figure who, in addition, harbors ideals. This adaptation of the life of this thief, his gang, and his partner makes its way to Prime Video.

Rather than taking the obvious route with an action-heavy, fictionalized portrait of French thief Bruno Sulak’s criminal misadventures of the late 1970s and early ’80s, filmmaker Mélanie Laurent shrewdly treats “Freedom” as an introspective, tragic romance centered on one man’s purpose and passion. Her creative instincts prove correct, though flawed and not exactly all that unique given the existence of “Heat,” “Thief” and a litany of other titles that traverse similar thematic territory. While she and co-writer Christophe Deslandes hit tonal notes at an efficient pace and introduce fascinating angles connecting the three leads, their spin on true-life events, exploring the psyches behind all involved, barely scratches the surface, leaving its impact severely blunted.
When we first meet rebellious mastermind Bruno, he’s knocking over small-town supermarkets for sport with his getaway-driver girlfriend Annie (Léa Luce Busato) and burly bagman buddy Drago (Steve Tientcheu). They’ve been raking...

A new film directed by Melanie Laurent shines a light on the lesser-known story of French criminal Bruno Sulak. “Freedom” follows Laurent’s decade-long effort to bring Sulak’s narrative to the big screen. Laurent first learned of Sulak over ten years ago and was struck by how he differed from other notorious criminals of his era. Unlike contemporaries who relied on violence, Sulak avoided using weapons and maintained a long-term romantic relationship.
Laurent faced challenges securing the film due to biases in the French film industry. As a woman director presenting a smaller project, studios doubted her vision. Streaming services like Netflix and Prime Video have since created more opportunities for diverse stories. Laurent credits these platforms for embracing filmmakers like herself. “Ten years ago, major directors wanted this film but no one trusted me,” Laurent said.

Mélanie Laurent’s “Freedom” proved to be a liberating production for both the writer/director and her lead star, Lucas Bravo.
“Emily in Paris” breakout star Bravo makes his leading man debut in the Prime Video true crime film inspired by Bruno Sulak. Bravo portrays the infamous thief and con artist who masterminded jewelry-store heists without real guns in 1970s and early-’80s France. Newcomer Léa Luce Busato has her first screen role as Sulak’s getaway driver and girlfriend, Annie.
While Laurent describes “Freedom” as a French take on “Catch Me If You Can,” the filmmaker also told IndieWire the feature is truly more of a love story that is “almost like a rom-com” meets “Bonnie and Clyde.” Yet it took Laurent a decade after Philippe Jaenada’s biography “Sulak,” released in August 2014, to bring her vision to the screen.
“It had all those crazy elements for a movie.

Just when you thought he was finished dragging Emily in Paris during the press tour for his latest movie, Lucas Bravo shared another slight at the fan-favorite, Emmy Award-nominated Netflix original series that helped launch his acting career. And it's a long one.
Following the two-part release of Emily in Paris season 4, Bravo has been openly airing his grievances with the direction his character has taken. Not long after the release of the new season, which saw Emily and Gabriel get together then quickly split, that he didn't agree with the latest version of Gabriel and suggested a distance in his connection with the character.
Most recently, Bravo has been on the promotional circuit for his new movie Libre, and he's honestly answered questions about his role on Emily in Paris, which has thus cast doubt on the possibility that the actor will return for season 5. “Emily in Paris” star Lucas Bravo said he’s debating returning for the Netflix series’ upcoming fifth season after being “frustrated with the direction” his character, Gabriel, has taken.
“When you love something … you want the best version of it. I’m not going to lie, I’ve been frustrated with the direction by character is taking,” Bravo said in an interview with Indiewire while promoting his upcoming film, “Freedom.” “It makes me question if I want to be part of Season 5 […] because my contract ends at Season 4.”

Lucas Bravo is getting candid about his thoughts on the direction his Emily in Paris character, Gabriel, is going.
The actor previously told The Hollywood Reporter that he was hoping for some growth for Gabriel in season five of the Netflix series because “he made a few choices that made me kind of grow away from him. We were very much alike in season one, but now, I don’t really know. I think I feel like he needs to get his shit together.”
In a more recent conversation with IndieWire tied to his upcoming film Freedom from Mélanie Laurent, the Ticket to Paradise actor expanded on that sentiment, explaining that he isn’t very proud of the choices the “sexy chef” has been making.

Lucas Bravo, who plays fan-favorite Gabriel on Emily in Paris, opens up about his frustrations with the creative direction of the show ahead of season 5, hinting at the possibility of not returning for the next installment. The hit Netflix series, created by Darren Star, follows an ambitious marketing executive, Emily Cooper (Lily Collins), as she navigates her new life in Paris. Gabriel, a charming chef and neighbor, was Emily's love interest and, initially, a lighthearted and playful character. It seems, however, that over time the writing turned Gabriel into a melancholic, passive character, according to Bravo.
In a candid interview with IndieWire while promoting Mlanie Laurent's true-crime film, Freedom, Bravo spoke about his experience working on Emily in Paris, saying that although he feels indebted to the series for marking his breakout role, he feels that he doesn't recognize both the show or the character he first signed up to play.

Lucas Bravo is questioning if he wants to continue being part of Emily in Paris and acknowledges playing Gabriel “is not fun anymore.”

Bravo reflected that in Season 1 “there was a lot of me in [Gabriel]” but have since “made him kind of unaware of his surroundings” and “always victimizing” him. The actor also said that Gabriel is “being manipulated by everyone” which made filming the show not exciting for him.

It might be au revoir to Emily in Paris for Lucas Bravo. The 36-year-old French actor is over the “lack of communication” keeping his character, Gabriel, and Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) apart. So much, in fact, that he’s ready for acting jobs outside the Netflix original series as Gabriel and Emily’s “archaic” storyline continues.
Gabriel and Emily’s ‘lack of communication’ is dated to Lucas Bravo
Bravo didn’t hold back in an interview with French publication Le Figaro. The Emily in Paris star, who has played Gabriel since the show began in 2020, shared his frustration about Emily and Gabriel’s romance in season 4, which hit Netflix in August 2024.
“Everything is based on a lack of communication,” he told the publication (via The Independent). Remember when Gabriel ditched skiing newbie Emily on the slopes? Or when he argued with her in French as she stood by unsure of what he said?...

Lucas Bravo is questioning how much freedom he has on “Emily in Paris” – and whether or not he wants to return to the hit Netflix series for its fifth season.
Bravo told IndieWire while promoting Mélanie Laurent’s true crime film “Freedom” that while he is indebted to “Emily in Paris” for marking his breakout role as chef Gabriel, he thinks his character has been “slowly turned into guacamole.”
And the food parallels don’t stop there: According to Bravo, the Lily Collins-led show has become rife with narrative “souffles,” or a “lack of risk” with the character arcs. In turn, Bravo doesn’t recognize both the show and the character he first signed up to play.

This frothy film tells the true-crime story of the so-called polite bandit Bruno Sulak, who goes on a crime spree in 1980s France, but insists his gang never fire their guns
Fast-rising French star Lucas Bravo, best known so far for playing love interest chef Gabriel in the series Emily in Paris, plays polite armed robber Bruno Sulak in this frothy true-crime story. Set largely in a version of the 1980s where everyone avoids wearing the most heinous trends of the time (and instead rock all the chic 80s styles designers have been reviving recently such as huge feather earrings and animal print) the story apparently sticks reasonably close to the historical record as it tracks Sulak’s career.
The handsome bandit specialises at first in robbing les supermarchés in the sticks. His gang includes stalwart wingman Drago (busy character actor Steve Tientcheu) and Bruno’s girlfriend/getaway driver Annie.

As Emily in Paris fans know and have been anxiously awaiting, the hit Netflix original romantic comedy series was renewed for season 5 back in September. The renewal arrived not long after the season 4 finale, which perfectly set up the next season with Emily's new life in Rome with Marcello and her old life in Paris with Gabriel trying to get her back.
Well, Emily potentially won't have to worry about being wooed by her recent past in season 5 based on an new interview from Gabriel actor Lucas Bravo. While promoting his new movie Libre, Bravo spoke with the French publication Figaro TV Magazine and expressed his newfound disinterest in his role on Emily in Paris. Will he leave the show?
Nothing's official regarding a possible departure from the series, but the actor's latest interview paints a pretty obvious picture about where he stands with the Netflix series that helped launch his career.

Emily in Paris season 4, part 2 has viewers wondering more about the newly introduced Genevive and the actor who plays her, Thalia Besson. For the most part, Emily in Paris' cast of characters didn't change too much in the fourth outing. Aside from Genevive, Laurent G's (Arnaud Binard) daughter, Emily's new love interest, Marcello Muratori (Eugenio Franceschini), was the biggest addition to the rom-com's ensemble. Given Emily in Paris season 4, part 2's ending, it seems like both Genevive and Marcello will have even more significant roles in the show's fifth season.
In the wake of a devastating breakup with Gabriel (Lucas Bravo), Emily (Lily Collins) tries even harder to keep her personal and professional lives separate. Although that seems to work for a little while, Marcello's family business, the Umberto Muratori cashmere company, complicates things. With Sylvie's encouragement, Emily winds up pitching the Agence Grateau marketing form to the Muratori family.

With its fourth season, Emily in Paris broke two major rules the show seemed to set for itself in its first few outings. Picking where Emily in Paris season 4, part 1 ended, the second half of the fourth outing introduced the Netflix series' first real villain and moved Emily in Paris' cast of characters to a brand-new location outside the City of Light. In part 2, Emily (Lily Collins) breaks up with Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) when Camille's (Camille Razat) pregnancy complicates the trio's dynamic a bit too much. Finally, Camille reveals her pregnancy was a false positive.
