Now on its fourth year, the Santiago Film Festival’s Morbido-Sanfic Lab features an ever more diverse selection from Ibero-America.
As Morbido founder-ceo Pablo Guisa said of this year’s edition: “It has projects from multiple countries, several produced or directed by women as well as one LGBTQ-themed project and, for the first time, a documentary.” Vampire creatures abound in this crop.
Humberto Mazari, the helmer-scribe-producer behind one of the six projects, psychological thriller “The Alaska Summit” (“La Cumbre de Alaska),” is developing three comic book spinoffs which will further delve into the underworld of the summit and the creatures that guard it. “In the coming weeks we expect to consolidate the visual aesthetics with three Latin American illustrators in charge of bringing these comic books to life,” he told Variety.

When she crosses paths with a charming stranger, Tom (Sam Brittan), at the park, she feels hope for the first time in months. Tom sweeps Lilly off her feet and invites her on a romantic weekend getaway. However, things take a disturbing turn when Lily discovers that Tom has an unusual appetite for tears… and will stop at nothing to get them.

‘Invoking Yell’ – Welcome Villain Films Acquires Worldwide Rights to Black Metal Found Footage Movie
Patricio Valladares, director of Hidden in the Woods and Nightworld, is back with Invoking Yell, which has just been acquired by Welcome Villain Films (Malum).
The news was first reported by Screen Daily this afternoon. No word yet on when Welcome Villain will be releasing the film here in the States, but we’ll keep you posted.
Valladares tells the site, “This film was always meant to be an ode to the found footage films of the 90’s, but with a black metal twist. I’m a big fan of The Blair Witch Project and many other found footage films from that era, and I am also a metalhead, so the subject matter came easy to me. It is incredibly exciting to be teaming up with the amazing group at Welcome Villain to release this special film to the world. We couldn’t be happier with this partnership.”

How far would you be willing to go to become famous? This is the question a group of three twentysomething women ask themselves when they decide to form a black metal band in Chile in the late 1990s. The band calls themselves Invoking Yell and plans a trip to a remote location in the wilderness to work on their demo tape, hoping to capture electronic voice phenomenon (EVPs) to give their music a unique sound. While alone in the middle of nowhere, what starts out as playful competition among the women becomes something much darker and more dangerous, making Invoking Yell a chilling, intensely unnerving experience.
Written by Barry Keating (Killer Mermaid) and Patricio Valladares (En las Afueras De la Ciudad) and directed by Valladares, Invoking Yell is shot VHS found footage style and has an authentic 1990s feel, from denim jackets to the camera and recording equipment used by the band.

The Ghosts of Monday trailer: Julian Sands horror film is now available on Digital, Blu-ray, and DVD
Ten days have gone by since Warlock star Julian Sands went missing while hiking up Mount Baldy in Southern California. While his car has been located, the actor himself is still missing, and we’re still hoping for a positive outcome to this situation. In a bit of awkward timing, the latest movie Sands starred in was just given a Digital, Blu-ray, and DVD release today – it’s the horror movie The Ghosts of Monday, and you can pick up a copy at This Link. To help you figure out whether or not this is a movie you would like to watch, we have the trailer embedded above.
Directed by Francesco Cinquemani, The Ghosts of Monday promises to deliver an unnerving horror experience. The film centers on Mark Huberman (Vikings Valhalla) as a television director who becomes embroiled in a supernatural conspiracy after traveling to Cyprus to make a tv pilot about a haunted hotel.

The Hotel Gula, stately, luxurious and abandoned for over twenty years since the food for a party’s banquet was seasoned with rat poison leading to the painful death of everyone in attendance as well as the owner’s suicide. It’s hardly the kind of place that would need help to appear haunted.
But less than ten minutes into The Ghosts of Monday that’s exactly what Bruce the host of a ghost hunting show, is suggesting to the property’s new owners, Frank and Rosemary. This does not sit well with the show’s director Eric. And the last thing this production needs is more tension, Eric’s ex-wife, and Bruce’s daughter, Sofia is also part of the show’s crew.

The spin-off format, in which queens from around the world compete, was viewed by 350,000 people from 9pm-10pm, according to Barb data from overnights.tv. It was way ahead of reality format Eating With My Ex (70,000) from the previous slot, while the Launch Party managed just 28,000. The synopsis for Embryo only really explains a hint of the film even if it seems to give away quite a lot. It explains that the movie follows a couple who while camping are abducted by aliens and woman, Evelyn is impregnated. Since that abduction she is having cravings for human flesh.
But this isn’t the only story in Embryo, a film that is some kind of strange anthology as we see a couple of other creepy tales that all link together eventually. Not only this but it’s a mix of sub genre that all umbrella under the same horror/sci-fi link. We see found footage, news stories, a normally shot film and even snuff film-like moments and if...

*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by the film's publicity arm. Directed by: Dejan Zecevic Writers: Barry Keating, Milan Konjevic. Cast: Ken Foree, Katarina Cas, Monte Markham and Dragan Micanovic. With the Eastern Bloc defunct, more and more films are coming out of Eastern Europe nowadays. The Rift bills itself as Serbia's first science fiction film. But, the film sets itself amongst a number of genres. It is essentially a mystery. There are strong elements of action here, as well. When the dead come back to life, there will be gunfire, especially with longtime horror vet' Ken Foree (Dawn of the Dead, 1978) starring. The soundtrack is a bit overwhelming; it bounces between instrumentals, rock music and a few other styles. Meanwhile, the film's story covers existentialist themes. This viewer wondered if the film was trying to answer the question: what if Jesus wore a spacesuit? Overall,...

Exclusive: The Chilean genre specialist behind Hidden In The Woods and Downhill is preparing a body-horror film.
Embryo centres on the fallout from the Chernobyl nuclear reactor disaster and will star regular collaborator Natalie Burn from Downhill.
Valladares and writer Barry Keating anticipate a winter 2017 start in Kiev and Valladares Pictures will produce alongside Us-based 7 Heaven Productions.
The filmmaker told Screen the idea for the story originated at the UK premiere of Downhill at Frightfest when an investor approached him, Burn and Keating.
Downhill followed a champion bike rider and his girlfriend on a test ride for an exhibition performance in Chile who discover a man dying of a mysterious virus.
WTFilms handled international sales on that title, which has not yet opened in Valladares’s native Chile. No sales agent is on board Embryo.

54 Below just presented Starmites In Concert, a one-of-a-kind tribute to one of the most brave, boisterous, brazen, raucous and just plain far-out theatre experiences of the 1980s. Based on the 1989 Broadway musical of the same name with music and lyrics by Barry Keating and a book by Keating and Stuart Ross, Starmites blasts off boasting an instant earworm score packed with delectable pop gems, epic ensemble sequences, and one of the most show-stopping diva showcases of all time at its center. Like no musical before or since, Starmites is truly in a galaxy all its own.

The 2014-2015 season has been jam-packed with exciting entertainment, fabulous stars and unforgettable nights that only live theatre can provide and this week one of the oldest awards institutions held their annual star-studded celebration honoring the best, brightest and, in many cases, newest top talent to appear on the scene this year, the 2015 Theatre World Awards. Standing out out from the pack of similar events around this time of year, the Theatre World Awards is voted on by a committee of top theatre professionals and this year's show was again directed by Barry Keating and hosted by Peter Filicia. The 71st presentation of the awards - and, yes, it is older than the Tony Awards and the Drama Desk Awards - was marked by a sensational ceremony at the Lyric Theatre on Broadway, home of the rapturously received revival of On The Town, and I was lucky enough to get...

Nymph (2014)
Written by: Marko Backovic, Barry Keating, Milan Konjevic
Directed by: Milan Todorovic
Cast: Kristina Klebe (Kelly), Franco Nero (Niko), Natalie Burn (Lucy), Dragan Micanovic (Boban), Slobodan Stefanovic (Alex), Miodrag Krstovic (The Guardian), Sofija Rajovic (Yasmine)
As you can see from the very challenging names to spell in the cast, this film has an international flair. Some scenes were filmed in Montenegro and some in Serbia. As of this writing, this film is streaming on Netflix under the title “Killer Mermaid”. I tend to gravitate more towards “Nymph”, the films’ original title. It leaves a little more mystique and still lets the film hold on to that exotic flair I eluded to earlier.
If anyone remembers “She Creature”, it involved a killer mermaid as well. That’s the only other film that I know of that can be compared to this one. I liked it a lot,...

Genre actress and fan-fave Kristina Klebe sat down with us over the weekend to talk about her role in director Milan Todorović’s upcoming "murderous mermaid" flick (and more), and since she’s all sorts of awesome, you’ll read this. Mamula), a feature which revolves around two young American women who go on a Mediterranean vacation, only to uncover the watery lair of a killer mermaid hidden beneath an abandoned military fortress. “Two things attracted me to Nymph,” stated Klebe of the seemingly Thale-esque project, which was penned by Barry Keating from a story by Marko Backovic, and...
