Misan Akuya is an actor, filmmaker, and voice artist known for his versatile performances and creative direction across various mediums. Born in Columbia, Maryland, Misan's passion for storytelling began at a young age. He first appeared on stage in a school play at five years old and grew up acting in local community theatre. His first short film, Going to War, was created when he was just 11 years old, a cut-out animation that foreshadowed his later work as a multi-talented artist.
Though he stepped away from acting from 2006 to 2011 to focus on high school and competitive auto racing, after acting in a school play in his senior year of high school, Misan made a powerful return to the screen with his role as a Union soldier in Steven Spielberg's Lincoln. After that he began to study theatre at Montgomery College and participated in plays such as the Crucible and One Big Love. Since then, he has appeared in numerous films, including A Split Personality, Troop 491: The Adventures of the Muddy Lions, and Koming from Afrika. His television work includes a notable appearance on HBO's Veep, all while he pursued theater studies at Montgomery College.
In 2014, Misan moved to Los Angeles to advance his career, taking on supporting roles in projects like The Anarchist Theory and NBC's One Big Happy all the while studying film and theatre at Santa Monica College and Azusa Pacific, acting in plays as well, That same year, he began exploring his talents as a writer and director, creating two student films: the stop-motion short I'm A Vampire and the live-action drama Mastery.
Misan's passion for filmmaking continued with his third short, Elsewhere, in 2015-a live-action drama that premiered at the Maryland International Film Festival and was picked up by Shorts International TV. His stop-motion work evolved in 2016 with Spider, a self-produced and directed project where Misan voiced the only two characters. Misan also was Warren in a small production of This Is Our Youth in 2017. His love for voice acting expanded with roles in the animated web series The Monroes, and he starred as Luke in *The Calling* in 2019, an online animated series.
In 2020, Misan showcased his versatility as the host of Midnight Update, a comedy-satire YouTube show, where he displayed his wit and humor through sharp commentary on current events. Misan also released an E.P titled Serial Lain Black In 2020, touching upon the social Issues at the times as well as a solo album called What A Wonderful World in 2021.
Misan's acting training includes studying with renowned coaches Jon Rosenfeld and Stan Kirsch, whose teachings have greatly influenced his approach to on-camera work. He has also trained at Anthony Meindl's Acting Workshop, where he developed his emotional authenticity and improvisational skills.
As of 2024, Misan is actively reigniting his acting career, with a focus on voice acting and filmmaking. He is pursuing roles that challenge him creatively, including auditioning for projects like Our Flag Means Death.
A multi-instrumentalist and avid go-kart racer, Misan balances his artistic pursuits with his love for motorsports, embodying a creative and competitive spirit both on and off the track.
