Jan Van Roey, born on 16th December 1975 in Beerse (Belgium), graduated
in 1999 as a Bachelor in Communication, specialising in Press and PR,
at PHICOM in Antwerp. During these studies his interest in the world of
moving images was sparked which resulted in employment as a researcher
and in diverse roles of a production department for Belgian television
shows.
In 2006 it was time to spread his wings. A seven week visit to India turned into a trip around the world and six years later residency in Australia. During his travels, Jan was lucky to be able to live with local communities in Asia and South America which evoked a different point of view on our Western value system.
A Diploma in Screen and Media in 2009 at the Sydney Film School gave Jan Van Roey the opportunity to develop his creative aspirations towards becoming a film maker. Only a few months after graduating, Bunya Productions employed him on the feature film Toomelah by Ivan Sen. Working with Director Ivan Sen and Producer David Jowsey was the major step forward in Jan's career. He finally found the right people to join forces with...people who could inspire him with their knowledge, insight, their passion, talent and different point of view on the dynamics in the film industry and the world around us.
Jan Van Roey worked, as right hand of Producer David Jowsey. Online Marketing and Distribution of films are also part of his slate and currently in development.
As part of the marketing strategy of their films, Bunya Productions offered Jan the opportunity to pursue his intentions to become a film maker starting with 'The Making of Satellite Boy. (February 2013)
