The Austin Film Festival (Aff) is set to showcase a remarkable lineup of films at this year’s event, Variety is happy to exclusively announce the first selection of films, including the world premiere of “Ravens,” a magical realist biopic featuring recent Emmy-nominee Tadanobu Asano (“Shogun”).

Also among the highly anticipated premieres is the Texas-made thriller by Chris Beier and Daniel Wolfman centered around a washed-up Youtube star titled “The Ego Death of Queen Cecilia,” “Silent Notes,” a romantic neo-noir starring Daniel Durant (“Coda”) and the film adaptation of the Broadway play “The Piano Lesson” from Netflix starring Samuel L. Jackson and John David Washington, which just recently released a trailer. These films are part of Aff’s first wave of screenings, highlighting some of the year’s best in independent filmmaking.

Additional programming includes “Black Dog,” which received the Un Certain Regard award at Cannes this year as well as Ecuadorian horror film “Shaman.

Dia Nash steps into the starring role of Lifetime’s upcoming “ripped from the headlines” movie Sister Wife Murder. The daughter of award-winning actress Niecy Nash-Betts has continued to carve out her own place in the industry. Here she stretches her acting chops further as Chloe, who after going to church one Sunday with her mom becomes enamored with the charming pastor Caleb (Matthew Daddario). Things get intimate between the two, even after the twenty-something finds out the leader of the church has not one but two wives. The unorthodox arrangement is cloaked in secrecy with polygamy illegal. Chloe falls deeper in love with Caleb to the point she becomes the third sister wife alongside Anna (Ashley Williams) and Margo (Ashley Dulaney). Lifetime has announced two new, true-crime movies for its Ripped From the Headlines summer fare. Amish Affair is the first, premiering on July 6, followed a week later by Sister Wife Murder.

Shadowhunters costars Katherine McNamara and Dominic Sherwood reunited on the red carpet a few weeks after teasing an exciting new project with another costar!

The pair, who played Clary Fairchild and Jace Herondale on the hit TV series, joined forces at the premiere of Netflix’s Ripley on Wednesday night (April 3) in Los Angeles.

The streaming service on Friday revealed it had canceled the Marc Cherry anthology drama after two seasons, despite handing out a renewal in December 2021.

“Paramount+ has made the difficult decision not to move forward with Season 3 of Why Women Kill,” a statement from the streamer reads.

“We would like to thank our partners at CBS Studios and Imagine Television Studios, the amazing creator and showrunner Marc Cherry and the incredible writers, cast and crew for two memorable seasons.”

Gravitas Ventures has acquired the U.S. and Canadian rights to “Wild Game,” an action adventure film directed by Brock Harris and starring Creed Garnick, Charlie Barnett, Allison Paige, Matthew Daddario, Harris, Golden Garnick, Jared Bonner, Kyle Robinson, Matthew Paetz, Adrianna Leonard and Vicki Garnick. Gravitas Ventures will release “Wild Game” in select theaters and on demand on Dec. 17.

The film follows the story of a cash-strapped rancher who takes an offer to help a movie star poach elk. They finds themselves in a run-in with local authorities, triggering a series of events for a dramatic showdown.

Ella-Rae Smith (The Stranger), Jessica Alexander (A Banquet), and Matthew Daddario (Shadowhunters) are leading the pic, which comes from debut director Kate Cox. David Betton (The Banishing) penned the screenplay.

Into the Deep follows Jess (Smith), a young woman who, desperate to escape her small coastal town, meets a stranger promising a romantic escape. As the couple spend time together on his yacht, a change in circumstances results in deceit, mistrust, and violence.

Producers are Sarah Gabriel and Marc Goldberg of Signature Films, and Mark Lane, Leonora Darby, and James Harris of Tea Shop Productions (47 Meters Down), with executive producers Christian Mercuri of Capstone and David Haring of Amet Entertainment. Capstone and Amet are financing and Capstone will handle worldwide sales at the virtual AFM in November.

The new trailer shows Lana Parrilla in character, and you can tell she's loving every single beat of her wicked new role.

The cast also includes Allison Tolman, B.K. Cannon, Jordane Christie, Matthew Daddario, Veronica Falcón, and Nick Frost.

Tolman plays a housewife determined to make her way into the inner circle of society, but Parilla's character stands in her way at every turn, even pushing her to the ground in one scene.

“Trust,” a new romantic drama starring Victoria Justice and Matthew Daddario, has sold key distribution rights to Vertical Entertainment.

The boutique distributor will roll out the film in North America, the U.K. and Ireland, Variety has learned. The release is set for March 12, in select theaters and via paid video on demand. Josh Spector negotiated the deal for Vertical, with UTA Independent Film Group on behalf of the filmmakers.

Set in the glamorous art worlds of Paris and New York, Justice plays a gallery owner married to a newscaster, played by Daddario. They join previously announced series regulars Allison Tolman, Nick Frost, Lana Parrilla, B.K. Cannon, Jordane Christie, Matthew Daddario and Veronica Falcón in the series that hails from Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry, Imagine Television Studios and CBS Studios.

This season of the dark comedy features a new ensemble cast and storylines set in 1949 that will explore what it means to be beautiful, the hidden truth behind the facades people present to the world, the effects of being ignored and overlooked by society, and finally, the lengths one woman will go in order to finally belong.

Williams will play Grace, one of the beautiful, wealthy, upscale women who are Rita’s (Parilla) friends and members of the exclusive garden society.

In today’s TV news roundup, the CW announced premiere dates for upcoming dramas including “Walker” and “Batwoman” Season 2, and Bravo announced “The Real Housewives of Atlanta’s” return date.

Lana Parrilla has lined up her return to the small screen.

The veteran Once Upon a Time star has landed a role on CBS All Access anthology series Why Women Kill.

Parrilla joins the previously announced Allison Tolman, who plays the timid and awkward yet optimistic housewife Alma, and Nick Frost, who stars as Alma’s veterinarian husband Bertram.

Parrilla is set to play Rita, described as "the sardonic wife to the wealthy and evil Carlo Castillo. As she waits for her elderly husband to die, Rita runs the garden club with an iron fist and spends much of her time engaging in an affair with a younger lover."

Shadowhunters alum Matthew Daddario is also a new addition to the cast as Scooter, who is Rita's "gorgeous, sexy and not-so-bright lover."

He is described as a "charming would-be actor, Scooter is well kept by Rita but pursues a secret relationship elsewhere.

Alec has always been one to keep his emotions locked up tight.

Magnus was the first person to really break down his walls, and because of it, the audience has been able to experience a different, more vulnerable side to him.

When faced with the possibility of losing Magnus, instead of closing himself off, Alec opens himself up even more.

It's a real atonement to how much Alec has developed as a character, and how much of an impact Magnus has had on his life.

Shadowhunters is going all out for their finale. Recently, Freeform announced the TV show will air an extended series finale in May.

The super-sized “Shadowhunters” series finale just got even bigger.

Freeform announced at its annual summit on Wednesday that the TV movie capping off the supernatural drama’s three-season run will be a whopping two and a half hours long.

The movie is set to close out the network’s adaptation of the “Mortal Instruments” series on Monday, May 6 at 8 p.m.
