With a vast and varied resume of performance, production and touring that belies his youth, Mika Mutti is a Brazilian musician/producer based in Los Angeles. Growing up on the northeast of Brazil, Mika was musical from an early age picking up the guitar at 6 and then moving to the piano at 12. As a self taught, he developed his own language on mixing the acoustic instruments with electronic music, combining his many years of training playing traditional percussion instruments with modern digital controllers.
Considered by many one of the top producers and arrangers in Bahia, he worked by the side of Brazilian percussion master and superstar Carlinhos Brown as keyboardist, arranger and musical director. Along with Brown and Sergio Mendes he is one of the key collaborators on the Oscar nominated soundtrack for the animated feature film Rio, directed by Carlos Saldanha and received a Latin Grammy for his work on Sergio Mendes Bom Tempo album released in 2010. He has worked closely with other important Brazilian and international artists including the Heavy Metal band Scorpions (incorporating Brazilian percussion with their "acoustic" project), Manolo García, Fiorella Mannoia, Carlos Santana, John Legend, Jamie Foxx, Will I Am, Ana Carolina, Seu Jorge, Paula Toller, Milton Nascimento, Gilberto Gil, New Matogrosso, Frejat, Maria Gadú and Lenine, amongst others.
He was also the co-producer / composer / invited artist at the ending Olympics Ceremony in Rio, 2016.
Combining his many years of training with traditional percussion with a sensibility derived from growing up in the age of the computer video game, Mikael uses computer keyboards, video game controllers, "Guitar Hero" devices, iPads, samplers and digital controllers to reproduce with fidelity the most varied percussion instruments: Djembe, Berimbau, Pandeiro, Drums, Timbau, Surdo, Congas or even a complete escola de samba.
