Last summer, the news broke that DC Studios is moving forward with an animated Blue Beetle TV series. The show was already in development when the announcement was made, with Miguel Puga (The Casagrandes) said to have started work on the project months before.
He'll serve as showrunner, while Cristian Martinez (Women of the Movement) is writing the series. Angel Manuel Soto and Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, director and screenwriter of the 2023 movie, respectively, executive producing alongside John Ricard. Galen Vaisman, another Blue Beetle executive producer, is overseeing the series for DC Studios.
Jaime Reyes actor Xolo Maridueña is reprising his role alongside unnamed other actors who also starred in the Blue Beetle movie. However, there have been conflicting reports about whether it's a continuation or soft reboot meant to bring Jaime into the Dcu without any Dceu baggage.
Talking to The Direct at the Saturn Awards, Maridueña expressed his enthusiasm to play Blue Beetle again.

DGA president Lesli Linka Glatter, Fifth Season head Graham Taylor and producer Brad Fuller were among the many industry leaders who lost their homes in the catastrophic Los Angeles wildfires this past week.
They join a growing list of celebrities and Hollywood heavyweights who are picking up the pieces after the fires devastated swaths of the city — Billy Crystal, Anthony Hopkins and Miles Teller among them.
Below is a list of prominent producers, writers, music insiders and others who confirmed to TheWrap that they, too, experienced a total loss in the unfolding disaster:

As James Gunn and Peter Safran took over the helm at DC Studios, they helped to usher in a new day for DC Comics which has meant a lot of changes.
In looking to start a new chapter for DC Comics by creating a new shared universe that hopes to rival the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the book must close on the Dceu. With the Decu coming to an end, this has meant the end of many amazing actors’ runs within the franchise as the iconic characters they brought to life within various Dceu films.
As hard as it has been to accept the end of this era – after all the Dceu did manage to assemble some incredible performers such as Gal Gadot in the role of Wonder Woman — we must accept that to start fresh change has to be made. And change has indeed been coming with several new actors...

Xolo Maridueña is set to reprise his Blue Beetle role in an animated series from DC Studios.
The Cobra Kai actor recently teased what it means to continue telling the story of Jaime Reyes, the DC Comics superhero he played in the 2023 film.
“There’s only one Blue Beetle,” Maridueña said in an interview with Hablemos de Cine about voicing the Latino superhero in the upcoming animated series.
He continued, “I’m so excited to get to continue the story of Jaime is an honor and I just can’t wait to see where the heck he goes. It’s still so early but I just know it’s about to be the next craziest anime.”
Earlier this year, Deadline broke the news that Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios were working on an animated series based on Blue Beetle. Miguel Paga would serve as director and showrunner, and Cristian Martinez would serve as writer.

Warner Bros. has a packed schedule ahead. James Gunn is building his DC Universe from the ground up, with the first project, Creature Commandos, set to release in just under two months. Meanwhile, Matt Reeves is crafting his Batman Epic Crime Saga, with The Penguin currently airing and The Batman Part II slated for a 2026 release.
Additionally, Reeves and Gunn are collaborating on an animated film titled Dynamic Duo, which will focus on the early days of Robins Jason Todd and Dick Grayson. As of now, the project isn’t tied to either Reeves’ universe or the broader Dcu.
Another mystery project has been “unofficially” revealed through a job listing from Cartoon Network Studios, seeking animators for a new series. According to the listing, the show in development is a DC-based, anime-style action series aimed at kids.

Another brutal Stormfront is imminent as Aya Cash braces fans for Vought Rising.
Although the actress admitted they “don’t actually know yet” when The Boys spin-off will begin filming, she teased an exciting prequel to the comic book adaptation after reading the first two episodes.
“I’ve read two scripts and they’re absolutely insanely good. But that’s about all I can tell you,” Cash told ComicBook while discussing her new superhero genre satire series The Franchise, premiering Sunday on Max.
Deadline reported in July that Prime Video had ordered the spin-off of The Boys, shortly before Cash and co-star Jensen Ackles shared the news at Comic-Con.
Showrunner Paul Grellong and executive producer Eric Kripke described the prequel as “a twisted murder mystery about the origins of Vought in the 1950s, the early exploits of Soldier Boy (Ackles), and the diabolical maneuvers of a Supe known to fans...

The Boys has a new show set in Mexico lined up, and the promise of this new spinoff will inevitably hurt the stakes of the mainline series final season. Although The Boys was conceived as a parody of the sprawling cinematic universes launched by Marvel and DC, mocking those studios penchant for announcing endless sequels and spinoffs to keep their brand alive, it has ironically become popular enough to launch a sprawling cinematic universe of its own. The Boys has a few spinoffs in development as it heads into the final season.

The DC Universe's vast cinematic history has led to several heroes receiving box office success, but how do they rank against each other? DC's live-action feature film history stretches back to 1951, with Superman and the Mole-Men kickstarting the long line of movies based on superheroes in the DC world. Since then, there have been several franchises featuring DC characters, from the order of movies in the Dceu to the many different franchises featuring the brand's most popular heroes.
There is no denying that some of the more commonly featured heroes include Batman and Superman, with many highly-ranked Batman movies being released over the decades. The same can be said for Superman, with the upcoming list of Dcu movies and shows from James Gunn continuing this trend by centering around the Man of Steel. However, where DC's other heroes are concerned, box office success has ranged from lucrative to flat-out unprofitable.

Amazon Prime’s The Boys has carved out its special place in the realm of superhero storytelling by flipping the script and rewriting the conventional superhero genre. Not just that, but Eric Kripke’s show has also distinguished itself through unapologetic satire and criticism of the superhero culture, with its obvious mockery of the industry giants, namely Marvel, and DC.

Earlier this month, we learned that Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios are plotting a new Blue Beetle animated TV series. It's already in development, with Miguel Puga (The Casagrandes) said to have started work on the project earlier this year.
He'll serve as showrunner, while Cristian Martinez (Women of the Movement) is writing the series. Angel Manuel Soto and Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, director and screenwriter of the 2023 movie, respectively, are going to executive produce alongside John Ricard. Galen Vaisman, another Blue Beetle executive producer, is overseeing the series for DC Studios.
Jaime Reyes actor Xolo Maridueña is set to reprise his role alongside other actors who starred in the Blue Beetle movie. However, there are conflicting reports about whether it's a continuation of that or a soft reboot which can bring Jaime into the Dcu without any Dceu baggage.

Blue Beetle Animated Series In Development at DC Studios - Main Image
DC Studios is developing a Blue Beetle animated series that will continue the fan-favorite hero's adventure in the Dcu.
While the 2023 solo film failed to garner box office success, it received positive responses from fans and critics and they expressed hope that the hero's adventure will continue in a potential sequel.

Blue Beetle may have been the leader of one of the greatest and most heroic legacies in the history of the DC Universe, but the fan-favorite character wasn’t done much justice when it comes to his story’s live-action adaptation film from 2023.
While the story faced mixed reviews from general audiences and fans, its box office run was the most disappointing and a thoroughly forgettable one.

But it seems like the Dcu is here to make fans forget all about that. This comes after the latest reports about Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios’ next project, which is an animated series on this very character, build up on the original movie.
Since this will continue to tell the story of the iconic superhero, fans are once again demanding the involvement of Xolo Maridueña in it.

Despite mostly positive reviews, Ángel Manuel Soto’s ‘Blue Beetle’ live-action movie set an unfortunate record as the lowest-grossing Dceu movie, earning less than even the poorly received ‘Shazam: Fury of the Gods.’
Since Blue Beetle was relatively unknown to most people, the movie’s underperformance wasn’t surprising. However, James Gunn assured fans that there is still a place for both Blue Beetle and Xolo Maridueña, who played him, in the Dcu.
Deadline reports that a new animated series featuring Blue Beetle is in development, marking Jaime Reyes’ transition from the Dceu to the Dcu.
Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios are working on the series, with Miguel Puga as showrunner and director, and Cristian Martinez as the writer. Angel Manuel Soto and Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, who directed and wrote the 2023 film, will serve as executive producers alongside John Rikard. Galen Vaisman will oversee the series for DC Studios.

Despite receiving mostly positive reviews, Ángel Manuel Soto’s ‘Blue Beetle’ live-action movie managed to break one unflattering record – the movie is the lowest-grossing Dceu movie to date, not succeeding to outearn even laughably bad ‘Shazam: Fury of the Gods.’
Blue Beetle was a relatively unknown character to the masses, so it wasn’t surprising that the movie would underperform. Still, James Gunn promised that there is a place for both Blue Beetle and for Xolo Maridueña who played him in the Dcu.
Deadline reports that Blue Beetle’s solo animated series is in the works, making Jaime Reyes one of the few heroes to make a jump from Dceu to Dcu.

Deadline reveals that Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios are plotting a new Blue Beetle animated TV series. It's reportedly already in development, with Miguel Puga (The Casagrandes) said to have started work on the project earlier this year.
He'll serve as showrunner, while Cristian Martinez (Women of the Movement) is writing the series. Angel Manuel Soto and Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, director and screenwriter of the 2023 movie, respectively, are going to executive produce alongside John Ricard.
Galen Vaisman, who was also an executive producer on Blue Beetle, is overseeing the series of DC Studios.
James Gunn has already confirmed there are plans for Xolo Maridueña's Jaime Reyes in the new Dcu and this sequel "could potentially lead to a return to the big screen," says the trade's sources.
It's unclear whether that would be in another solo outing as the Blue Beetle movie made only $130.8 million worldwide on a reported $104 million - $125 million budget.

Dios mio! Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios are scuttling toward expanding the reach of Blue Beetle with a new animated series. Miguel Puga has been working on the Blue Beetle animated series since early 2024 and will act as the project’s showrunner and director, with Cristian Martinez writing the scripts.
Angel Manuel Soto and Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, the top talent behind DC’s 2023 film, return for the Blue Beetle animated series as executive producers alongside John Richard. Galen Vaisman, who helped executive produce the movie, oversees the animated adaptation. Casting for the project remains a mystery, though Deadline says DC is in contact with multiple stars from the live-action film. Although deals still need to be implemented, their response was positive.
The Blue Beetle animated series continues the story started in Soto’s live-action film. If audiences connect with the animated series, DC could continue the story in a new live-action sequel.

Jaime Reyes’ time as Blue Beetle may continue — in animated form.
Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios are developing an animated series based on the DC Comic character. The potential show would follow on the 2023 feature film, which starred Xolo Maridueña as the title character, who gains super powers after an alien Scarab fuses with his body.
Miguel Puga (Nickelodeon’s The Casagrandes) is serving as showrunner and director on the animated project, with Cristian Martinez (Good Trouble) writing. The Blue Beetle film’s writer, Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, and director, Angel Manuel Soto, are on board as executive producers, as are John Ricard and Galen Vaisman; both were EPs on the movie, and Vaisman will oversee the series project for DC Studios.
Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios declined comment.
More to come.

When Empire caught up with Eric Kripke for this month's issue of the magazine, The Boys' showrunner revealed that he'd already gotten his superviolent superhero series' ending all planned out. "Whenever that last episode occurs, I know what happens," he shared. Well now we know when exactly that last episode will occur. Taking to Twitter/X earlier today, Kripke confirmed that the battle between Karl Urban's Billy Butcher and Antony Starr's Homelander will come to "a gory, epic, moist climax" with its fifth — and now final — season. Check out the announcement below;
Kripke's announcement comes on the same week that The Boys Season 4, described by Empire's own Amon Warmann as the show's "best season yet", premieres on Prime Video UK. In this latest run of episodes from the R-rated, claret-soaked, and ever-so-sweary satire, The Boys are out to stop not only Homelander, but also Oval Office-bound head-popping super...

Get yourself a blood-spatter poncho and a glass of Stillwell’s milk because Amazon is superhero-landing with some big news for fans of The Boys. After multiple seasons of ultra-violence, false hero worship, skull-crushing sexual acts, and countless civilian lives lost, The Boys is ending with Season 5 at Amazon. The Boys showrunner, Eric Kripke, announced the fan-favorite show’s ending on Twitter, saying, “Season 4 premiere week is a good time to announce: Season 5 will be the final season!” Kripke noted in the wake of glowing reviews for Season 4 arriving online. “Always my plan, I just had to be cagey till I got the final Ok from Vought. Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax.”

The Boys is one of the most popular superhero series in the world at this moment. The twisted take on the superhero genre, adapted from the comic book of the same name, became a major hit for Amazon Prime and a series that has pushed the boundaries of what can be shown on TV in more ways than one. The series is expecting the premiere of its fourth season in June, while its first and so far only spin-off, Gen V, is in the process of filming its second season. But, there is another spin-off project planned – The Boys: Mexico (tentative title) – but based on the most recent reports, the project is still some time away before being made into a series.
Seeing how popular the franchise is, we’re not really surprised that more spin-offs are being worked on and the only bad news here is that the Latin American spin-off,...

We're now just three weeks away from the season 4 premiere of The Boys, and Prime Video has shared a new still spotlighting the reshuffled members of the "superhero" team known as The Seven.
The updated roster (it's a running joke that there's never actually seven of them) consists of original members Homelander, The Deep, A-Train, and Black Noir (with a different character under the mask), along with two new recruits.
As you might expect, these ladies turn out to be every bit as unhinged/amoral as pretty much every other Supe that's been part of the team, but one, in particular, might be the most dangerous of all: The smartest person in the world, Sister Sage (Susan Heyward).
"It's such a funny power," showrunner Eric Kripke says of the scheming Supe in a recent interview with EW. "A lot of superhero worlds have that character. Whereas most of them are usually really reedy white dudes,...

Exclusive: A longtime passion project imagined by the late Steve McQueen has been revived.
Two decades after the iconic actor’s son Chad McQueen and family friend/Warner Bros exec Lance Sloan began development on the film Yucatan, Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer has been set as the screenwriter of the project that is now in early development at Netflix, we understand. Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey remain attached as producers under their Team Downey banner.
Both Netflix and Team Downey declined to comment.
McQueen’s vision involved a story about a renegade salvage expert’s search for Mayan treasure in the Yucatan Peninsula with him taking the lead. Details regarding where Dunnet-Alcocer will take the story are under wraps. Mexican writer Dunnet-Alcocer is working fresh with McQueen’s script, which was discovered years after his 1980 death as part of a collection of notebooks he left behind in a pair of trunks.

'El Muerto' is reportedly back in development without Bad Bunny.Sony is said to have quietly resumed work on the upcoming comic book blockbuster - which follows the story of a superman luchador - but the musician and occasional WWE superstar won't be playing the masked wrestling hero.As reported by Variety, script revisions and Bad Bunny's tour dates mean the movie is in development without its former leading man. There had been delays due to the writers and actors strikes in Hollywood, which meant the film lost its place in the release calendar.Last year, Bunny - whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio - was asked about the status of the film, and described the situation as "delicate" to Vanity Fair.He added: "I don't know what to say."A publicist later told the outlet he was no longer on board with the project.

The year began, as they usually do, with so much promise. This was, after all, supposed to be the year that DC came roaring back, with Shazam! Fury of the Gods, the long-awaited The Flash, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Marvel had its own big slate. We were to be in a Shangri-La of screen superheroes. Yet in the end, it appeared the comic book movies failed audiences.
Or did they? Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, based on comics from the 1980s, is one of the top animated movies of the year. David Fincher’s stylish The Killer is based on a French graphic novel. And of course, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, is a towering achievement even beyond the medium of animation.
In other corners, movies based on toys, for the most part, are looked down upon and are considered jokes. But here, too, 2023 surprised us.

Gael García Bernal is nursing a slight cold. He thinks he may have caught a bug during a flight to Los Angeles. But he theorizes it could have also come from the Academy Museum Gala, held in the museum’s open-air atrium, which he attended two nights before I meet him for breakfast at Chateau Marmont.
“Everyone was so cold there,” Bernal says, before cracking, “I don’t know if there have been any cases of pneumonia afterwards. I had fun listening to all the speeches but it was difficult to enjoy because we were all super freezing and trying to stay warm.”
I sit down with Bernal early Tuesday morning while he enjoys a cup of coffee and a plate of huevos rancheros because he is finally — post-actors strike — able to talk about “Cassandro,” his Amazon Prime Video film about lucha libre’s most celebrated exótico. Bernal stars as the titular wrestler,...

Amazon – via its Prime Video service — just can't get enough of the superhero satire, bloody carnage and sexually inappropriate behaviour of The Boys. Not content with the original main series, college-set live-action spin-off Gen V (which was recently renewed for a second season) and animated series Diabolical, the company is now in the early stages of developing a Mexican version of the show, with :a[Blue Beetle]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/movies/reviews/blue-beetle/' }'s Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer attached to write the initial script.
Few details have been revealed about the new show adapted from Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's comic books, save that it'll be set in Mexico City.
Far more intriguing is who might be involved — while The Boys main executive producers Erik Kripke, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver would all have a credit, Variety reports that Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal are...

"The Boys" universe is continuing to expand — and now the franchise is headed to Mexico. That's right! Amazon MGM Studios is now developing another show in the ever-growing universe based on the comic books by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson titled "The Boys: Mexico." While it's still in the very early stages, the show has assembled a pretty impressive team behind the scenes to get the ball rolling.
According to Deadline, Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer is set to write and executive produce the new Mexican-set spin-off. What's more, Gabriel Luna ("Andor") and Gael García Bernal ("Werewolf by Night") are also on board as executive producers and might also appear on screen, though they wouldn't be taking on major roles. Plot details for the series currently remain under wraps but the report states that the series is expected to eventually film in Mexico, rather than in the U.S. or Canada, for example.

With season four on the way and college-set spinoff “Gen V” recently wrapped, the ultra-violent world of “The Boys“ is about to become even bigger yet. Deadline reports today that new spinoff series “The Boys: Mexico” is in the works.
The latest offshoot will hail from Blue Beetle scribe Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, with Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal set to executive produce.
No plot details have been announced as of yet, and Luna and Bernal are considering appearing in “The Boys: Mexico” in smaller roles. In other words, don’t expect them to star in the series. What is confirmed is that “The Boys: Mexico” will film in Mexico.
Considering the cameos and tie-ins to “The Boys” featured in offshoot “Gen V,” it feels safe to assume that “The Boys: Mexico” will also feature references and characters to its parent series.

The world of “The Boys” could soon be expanding to Mexico.
According to sources, Amazon is currently developing a Spanish-language spinoff of their popular dark superhero series based on the Garth Ennis/Darick Robertson comic books that would be set in Mexico City. Exact plot details remain under wraps.
Like “The Boys,” it would be produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios. Sources say that Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer is attached to write. Dunnet-Alcocer most recently wrote the screenplay for the DC film “Blue Beetle” starring Xolo Maridueña. “The Boys” creator Erik Kripke would executive produce via Kripke Enterprises along with Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and James Weaver of Point Grey Pictures, and Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty of Original Film. Sources also say that Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal would executive produce under their La Corriente del Golfo banner, though deals are still being worked out on the series.
