Richard Stables

Richard Stables' acting journey began when he trained at one of UK's top drama schools; the Arts Educational Schools London, a three year 'Stanislavski-based' acting programme taught by teachers of the Drama Centre London. He has subsequently worked as a professional actor in film, television and theatre throughout the UK, US and Australia. An early highlight was during his third year at drama school when he played a small role in George Lucas', "Star Wars - The Phantom Menace".
Richard has starred in various award winning films and TV series such as the feature
"Wedgetail" for which he won the Founder's Choice Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role at the Queens World Film Festival in New York. He starred opposite Hugo Weaving in the Australian feature film "Healing" and he has also appeared in "Tangle" and in "The Doctor Blake Mysteries" for the ABC TV and BBC TV. Richard played the lead in the internationally award winning short film "Lily", directed by rising talent Kasimir Burgess, winning the Crystal
Bear Award for Best Short Film at Berlinale: The Berlin International Film Festival. "Lily" has also screened regularly on ABC TV.
Richard recently shot the lead in a short film "Leecher" in New York which competed
successfully in various U.S. film festivals and screens on the YouTube channel 'Omeleto'.
And in 2019 the feature film "The Leunig Fragments", again directed by Kasimir Burgess and distributed by Madman Entertainment, competed at both the Sydney International Film Festival and the Melbourne International Film Festival and then screened in cinemas across Australia in early 2020. Richard played Michael Leunig's father.
He has trained with acting legends such as Ellen Burstyn, William Esper, Scott Williams,
Elizabeth Kemp, Larry Moss, Howard Fine, Susan Batson, Anthony Meindl, Margie Habor, Catherine Clouzet (Berliner Ensemble) and Cicely Berry (Head of Voice at the Royal Shakespeare Company, London).
Richard was a founding member of Red Stitch Actors Theatre, Melbourne and has acted in theatre productions at the Belvoir St Theatre, Sydney and Forty Five Downstairs theatre,
Melbourne. He's also produced various theatre productions for three independent theatre companies in Sydney and Melbourne. Richard played the lead role in an Off-West End one man show called "Falling Man" staged at the King's Head Theatre, London directed by West-End director Hannah Chissick and another lead in an Off-Broadway production of Simon Stephens' "Harper Regan" at the Gloria Maddox Theatre, New York, directed by Broadway
director Terry Schreiber. The production was nominated for 'Best Revival of a Play' at the
2016 New York Innovative Theatre Awards, NY.
When not acting, Richard teaches acting: the Meisner and Michael Chekhov techniques, and Vedic Meditation.
