House of Spoils follows an ambitious chef (DeBose) as she opens a restaurant on a remote estate where she battles kitchen chaos, crushing self-doubts… and a haunting presence who threatens to sabotage her at every turn.

Presented by Lisa Frankenstein, 1989 Week is dialing the clock back to the crossroads year for the genre with a full week of features that dig six feet under into the year. Today, Alex Divincenzo revisits the great slasher slump of 1989.
While horror fans often look back on the ’80s with a nostalgic glow, 1989 was not what most would consider a strong year for the genre — particularly when compared to the embarrassment of riches spawned by the rest of the decade. Not even Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, and Freddy Krueger were safe from the slasher slump.
Each franchise had its ups and downs across a cumulative 17 movies in the ’80s, but the decade came to a close with low points — creatively and financially — in all three sagas: Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan, A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child, and Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers.

This Friday, February 9th, the ’80s horror-comedy Lisa Frankenstein stomps into theaters just in time for Valentine’s Day. In anticipation, Bloody Disgusting is dialing the clock back to 1989 with a full week of features that dig six feet under into the year.
A crossroads year, 1989 saw the highs of the decade reach new lows across storied franchises, all while hinting at a future that was both wonderful and strange. Both new filmmakers and sub-genres emerged from the graves. It was dawn and dusk all at once.
Today, writer Alex Divincenzo kicks off 1989 Week by examining how movie maniacs such as Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, and Jason Voorhees were circling their own caskets. Read his essay here and stay tuned for more themed editorials and lists.
Once again, Lisa Frankenstein worms into your heart this Friday. From director Zelda Williams and writer Diablo Cody, the upcoming horror-comedy is inspired by 1980s movies including Weird Science,...

The Mean One, a highly unofficial Christmas horror movie that turns the Grinch into a slasher movie maniac, received a limited theatrical release last holiday season. THR reports today that the holiday slasher finally set a date for home release.
Steven Lamorte‘s outrageous slasher parody will finally come home to VOD on October 3 from DeskPop Entertainment.
In the audacious new parody, The Mean One (Terrifier 2‘s David Howard Thornton) is a hairy, green-skinned grump in a Santa suit, living on a mountain high above the town of Newville, despising the holiday season. Young Cindy You-Know-Who (Krystle Martin), whose parents were butchered by The Mean One twenty Christmases earlier, is returning to town to seek closure… but when the Mean One launches a new reign of terror that threatens to destroy Christmas, Cindy finds a bold new purpose – trapping and killing the monster.

John Waters raved that Smoking Causes Coughing is a “superhero movie for idiots,” and Bloody Disgusting has an exclusive clip that perfectly encapsulates the absurdist humor and violence that ensues when the Tobacco Force attempts to prepare for battle.
Written/Directed by Quentin Dupieux (Rubber, Deerskin, Mandibles), the absurdist, gory French comedy releases On Demand on June 27 from Magnolia Home Entertainment under the Magnet Label.
In the exclusive clip below, members of the plucky Tobacco Force team fumble their way through helmet removal to comically lethal results. It feels safe to assume that whoever this wacky superhero team goes up against might have the upper hand. With Dupieux behind it, we’d expect nothing less.
The “wildly inventive new comedy” follows the misadventures of a team of five superheroes known as the Tobacco Force – Benzene (Gilles Lellouche), Nicotine (Anaïs Demoustier), Methanol (Vincent Lacoste), Mercury (Jean-Pascal Zadi), and Ammonia (Oulaya Amamra...

"It's that perfect mixture of nurturing and pestering that I remember so well..." Never, ever look under the bed. You never know what might still be lurking under there... The Nurturing is a nice 7-minute horror short made by filmmaker Alex Divincenzo, also known as the creator of Broke Horror Fan. This will be followed by the restored version of the legendary cult classic Gone With the Pope by the notorious Duke Mitchell.
Closing Night: Goodnight Mommy the debut feature film by Severin Fiala and Veronika Franz, will screen at 8:30 p.m. on the 29th and is a nightmarish vision of familial dread when twin brothers believe their cosmetically altered mother is literally not the woman she used to be.

Hello, and welcome to The Best Of Number Two here at The Liberal Dead. We haven’t done any kind of theme for a long time, so I thought I would reach out to some some talented people from other sites, and see if we can put something together. I decided it would be a theme about the best second films in a franchise/series. Expect discussion about Metamorhosis: The Alien Factor, The Devil’s Rejects, C.H.U.D. II, Blade II, Sleepaway Camp II, Amityville 2, Island of the Fishmen, The Dark Knight, Final Destination 2, House II and more.
Rob Zombie is a polarizing filmmaker, to say the least. Love him or hate him, you cannot deny is his ambition. The longtime musician made his feature directorial debut with House of 1000 Corpses. Although filmed in 2000, the movie didn’t hit theaters until 2003. Corpses fell victim to many issues that first-time directors face,...

On July 4th, 2006, Dread Central opened its doors, and for nearly a decade now we've been bringing you constant horror content every day since. No holidays. No days off. We're always here, and we are always happy to do so. So it's with great pride that we wish you, our readers, a happy anniversary!
Being a writer in the web business is not easy. There are so many bumps along the way that it gets hard to remember the smoother patches. One thing that doesn't change, though, is how absolutely worth it it all is.
You guys give us a platform, and we do our best to honor that gift. We've made each other laugh, screamed over our disagreements (complete with Caps Lock On), and have learned so much from one another. Every day that we get to do this is a blessing, and in an industry where so many websites comes and go,...

It's hard to believe seven years have passed since Dread Central opened its doors on July 4th, 2006, declaring our independence from those who were holding us back, but alas... it is so. This past year has been stranger than most, but truth be told, that's how we like it.
Each year I personally take this time to acknowledge staffers past and present so please allow me my usual time to indulge myself. First, our foundation ... The Foywonder, Andrew Kasch, Buz Wallick, Scott Johnson, Mr. Dark, and Nomad. These cats have been here since Day One and helped build this nuthouse brick by brick. I don't care whether they contribute a lot or a little. The simple fact that they've stood by us so long always makes me realize how truly lucky and blessed we are. Gracias for your never-ending loyalty.
A special shout-out to the following DC soldiers that have...

While we'd hardly call anything having to do with Star Trek horror, that doesn't mean we won't take a minute to let you know that one of our favorite genre actors will be boldly going where no man has gone before!
In a recent interview with Dread Central's Alex Divincenzo for HorrorNews.net, A Nightmare on Elm Street scream queen Heather Langenkamp revealed that she has a role in J.J. Abrams' upcoming Star Trek Into Darkness. Langenkamp worked on the film's special effects alongside her husband, David LeRoy Anderson's, Afx Studio, and she also landed herself a small part.
Good on ya, Heather! You may wanna stay away from any aliens with finger knives, though. You just never know!

Six years ago Dread Central opened its doors on July 4th, declaring our independence from those who were holding us back, and the lunatics have been running the asylum ever since. The road thus far has been winding and unpredictable, and we wouldn't want it any other way.
As always, I'd like to take this time to acknowledge the folks who keep the spooky coming by the bucketful. First, our foundation ... The Foywonder, Andrew Kasch, Buz Wallick, Scott Johnson, Mr. Dark, Nomad, and Rick Trembles. These cats have been here since Day One and helped build this nuthouse brick by brick. Words alone cannot express how lucky we are to have each and every one of you. Your loyalty and support are proof positive it takes more than just blood to become family.
Then there are the cats who have been soldiering for several years - Heather Wixson, Brian Smith,...
