The NAACP and BET have announced the performers and presenters for the 53rd NAACP Image Awards.

Nine-time Grammy Award winner and recent Super Bowl halftime show headliner Mary J. Blige will perform at the live show. The ceremony will also feature Samuel L. Jackson, who will be honored with the NAACP Chairman’s Award, and New York Times editor and journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones, who will be presented with the Social Justice Impact Award. During the ceremony, members of the Mexican American Legislative Caucus, Texas House Democratic Caucus, and Texas Legislative Black Caucus will receive the Roy Wilkins Civil Rights Award, for their work protecting the freedom to vote in Texas.

Exclusive: More Tyler Perry’s House of Payne and Tyler Perry’s Assisted Living is on the way. Amid strong ratings, BET has renewed both series ahead of their upcoming season premieres, House of Payne for a ninth season and Assisted Living for a third season.

The network also announced a May 25 premiere date for House of Payne‘s eighth season and Assisted Living‘s second. They’re moving to a new night, Tuesday, from their previous Wednesday slot, beginning Tuesday, May 25 at 9 Pm and 9:30 Pm Et/Pt, respectively.

Introducing the cast of “Tyler Perry’s Assisted Living,” Tyler Perry’s latest comedy for BET.

The series stars Na’im Lynn, J. Anthony Brown, Courtney Nichole, Tayler Buck and Alex Henderson, while longtime Tyler Perry collaborators David and Tamela Mann reprise their roles as Mr. Brown and Cora.

In an exclusive behind the scenes clip, David Mann shares why he’s excited to play Mr. Brown again.

“Having Mr. Brown on a new project is kind of a breath of fresh air for me because it’s somebody new for me to fight with, some new friends,” David Mann says. “And, of course, bringing Cora along is that added bonus. … Mr. Brown was crazy before, but now that he has someone else to take him to the next crazy level, it’s gonna be fun.”

Tamela Mann adds: “Cora is the peacemaker, I’m always – even with Madea and Mr.

Tyler Perry is bringing back the multi-cam comedy series “House of Payne” at Bet.

Perry and the cabler have commissioned a new season of the series. The revival picks up five years after the conclusion of the original series. Original stars Lavan Davis, Cassi Davis Patton, Lance Gross, Demetria McKinney, China Anne McClain, Larramie “Doc” Shaw, Keshia Knight Pullam, and Allen Payne will all return.

“House of Payne” originally aired in syndication before moving to TBS for the rest of its run. It would go on to air over 250 episodes before wrapping up in 2012. The spinoff “The Paynes” aired two seasons on Own in 2018.

In addition, production is also underway on another Perry project at Bet, “Assisted Living.” In that series, Jeremy (Na’im Lynn), a patriarch of a young family with teenage children, decides to move to the backwoods of Georgia after losing his job to help his crazy grandfather.

The Paynes’ long-awaited family reunion is finally happening. Eight years after wrapping its 254-episode run on TBS, House of Payne is being revived at Bet, TVLine has learned.

What’s more, everyone from the show’s original cast — Lavan Davis, Cassi Davis Patton, Lance Gross, Demetria McKinney, China Anne McClain, Larramie “Doc” Shaw, Keshia Knight Pulliam, and Allen Payne — is expected to return in some capacity.
