Matthew Bate is a multi-award winning director whose films have premiered at Sundance, SXSW, New Directors New Films, Rotterdam, HotDocs, Melbourne Film Festival and many more. Matt's feature documentary, Shut Up Little Man! An Audio Misadventure, premiered in the World Cinema Documentary competition at Sundance 2011, and was selected in the 40th New Directors/New Films at the MOMA and Lincoln Center New York. Matt's short film I Want to Dance Better at Parties took out the Dendy Award for Best Film. His 2015 feature film Sam Klemke's Time Machine premiered at Sundance 2015 and won Artistic Vision Awards at DocAviv and the Australian Writers Guild Award for Best Screenplay. Matthew's VR work Summation of Force premiered at Sundance New Frontier 2018 and won the inaugural Imagination Award at VR Festival Amsterdam. In 2020 Matthew co-created, wrote and produced the TV Comedy Series Aftertaste starring Erik Thompson and Rachel Griffiths. He is a co-director and founder of Closer Productions based in Adelaide.
