Now, the names of more cast members have been revealed. In its entertainment and services section, which includes comic book publisher Dark Horse Media, Embracer reported a 14% drop in organic growth. This decline was due to “lower activity and tough comparisons to last year” within its Middle-earth Enterprises branch, which holds the “Lord of the Rings” rights.

Middle-earth Enterprises had a “slow quarter” compared to last year, mainly due to a lack of new game releases. However, it did generate “higher film revenue than expected,” according to the company.

The PC/Console game “The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria” launched on Steam and Xbox earlier this summer and “performed slightly above management expectations.” Another release, “Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed,” saw “slower than expected” early digital sales, Embracer said.

Looking ahead, the company is optimistic about the upcoming anime “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim,” set to release in the U.S. and internationally next month.

New Line Cinema has revealed the official trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, an anime feature that returns audiences to the epic world brought to life in The Lord of the Rings trilogy based on the revered books by J.R.R. Tolkien.

More Middle-earth action awaits: Warner Bros. has released the trailer for the anime feature film “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim,” set to be released on Dec. 13.

Directed by Kenji Kamiyama, “The War of the Rohirrim” takes place 261 years before the epic events of “The Fellowship of the Ring.” Featuring Helm Hammerhand as the protagonist, the film is based on a story by J.R.R. Tolkien included in the appendices of “The Lord of the Rings.”

Brian Cox voices the iconic King of Rohan, while Miranda Otto, who starred in Peter Jackson’s film trilogy, returns to lend her voice to her original character Eowyn. In the new animated film, the king must defend his land against an army of Dunlendings, in an origin story revealing how the stronghold Helm’s Deep got its name.

Additional cast members include Gaia Wise, Luke Pasqualino, Laurence Ubong Williams and Shaune Dooley.

Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group’s Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy announced today that the Oscar-winning team behind the nearly $6 billion blockbuster Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens are reuniting to produce two new films from Tolkien’s Middle-earth for Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema.

The first of the two films, Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, will be directed by and star Andy Serkis, with Walsh and Boyens set to write the screenplay, along with Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou (Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim). New Line’s new animated movie, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, is moving from its April 12, 2024 release date to Dec. 13 next year.

The move stems from a chain-reaction of Warner Bros re-dating today, spurred by Legendary Entertainment’s Dune: Part Two going from Nov. 3 this year to March 15, 2024, which then pushed that financier and producer’s other title, Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire from that date to April 12, 2024. Dune: Part Two had to move had to shift on account of the unavailability of its cast to promote during the actors strike.

War of the Rohirrim will now face off on its new December date against Sony’s reboot of The Karate Kid.

The “10 Cloverfield Lane” filmmaker will direct an episode for Season 5 of the hit Netflix series “Stranger Things.”

Trachtenberg’s recent directing credits include “Prey,” a prequel to the “Predator” franchise from 20th Century Studios, the pilot for Amazon’s “The Boys,” and Netflix’s “Black Mirror: Playtest.”

Linda Hamilton is joining the cast of “Stranger Things” Season 5, adding yet another genre icon to the Netflix series’ ensemble for its final season. Details on the “Terminator” actress’ role in the series were not revealed, but she joins the likes of Paul Reiser (“Aliens”) and Sean Astin (“The Goonies”) in the show that’s essentially a love letter to 1980s cinema.

Season 5 of the popular sci-fi fantasy series paused development (it had not yet started production) in solidarity with the WGA writers’ strike earlier this year. Season 4 was released in two parts in 2022.
