In what might be his biggest starring role in years since he was let go from the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise, Johnny Depp will star alongside Penélope Cruz in an action thriller for Lionsgate and director Marc Webb, the studio announced on Monday.

Depp and Cruz are teaming up on screen for what will be the fourth time in a thriller called “Day Drinker.” They previously starred together in “Blow,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” and “Murder on the Orient Express.”

“Day Drinker” follows a cruise ship bartender who meets a mysterious day drinker — only for both of them to find themselves entangled in a criminal underbelly, and connected in unexpected ways.

Lionsgate has closed a deal for Johnny Depp and Penélope Cruz to reteam for a fourth time in “Day Drinker,” the studio announced on Monday.

The film will be directed by Marc Webb (“Snow White”). Depp and Cruz previously co-starred in the features “Blow,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” and “Murder on the Orient Express.”

Sony has dated a third “Jumanji” movie, presumably in the same continuity as the Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson/Jack Black films, for Dec. 11, 2026. No casting or filmmaking details have been confirmed, beyond producers Matt Tolmach, Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia and Jake Kasdan.

This is technically the fifth “Jumanji” film, after Joe Johnston’s 1995 original film and Jon Favreau’s “Zathura” in 2005 (technically a stand-alone spinoff of the original). In 2017, the franchise was revived with “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,” which changed the original boardgame into a videogame. That was followed by “Jumanji: The Next Level.”

The two newer films — which also starred Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan and Nick Jonas — were directed by Jake Kasdan, whose action Christmas movie “Red One” hits theaters later this year. Most, if not all, of the team behind the two more recent “Jumanji” movies are expected to return.

Sacks died Tuesday of complications from lymphoma in New York while on a visit there, his wife, talent agent Annette van Duren, told The Hollywood Reporter. He was first diagnosed 22 years ago but spent several years in remission before the cancer returned.

In the 1980s, after a project involving the iconic L.A. band The Runaways never got off the ground, Sacks took the footage and incorporated it into a plot about a director working on a tight deadline to finish a movie starring Runaways member Joan Jett.

A spokesperson for the venue told Variety, “We can confirm that the Jonas Brothers’ performance had to be interrupted for several minutes due to the use of a prohibited laser pointer by the person.
