As the royal ranks thin out further, Kate Middleton remains the crown’s “best hope” for continuity, says Princess Diana’s former secretary.
Kate Middleton can carry the crown into the future
Princess Diana’s former private secretary, Patrick Jephson, alluded to Vanity Fair that Kate Middleton was the one person who could keep the monarchy afloat. Reaction to her presence at Trooping the Color proved just that, as public excitement bubbled over six months after Kensington Palace revealed she had cancer.
However, as senior royals remain spread thin, as Kate and King Charles continue to battle cancer, and Princess Anne recovers from a head injury, pressure mounts on Kate to save the family. According to Jephson, without Kate, the entire institution seems “rather flat.”

It’s not uncommon for brides and grooms to make specific requests to guests who attend their nuptials. Some members of the royal family do so as well including Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh (formerly the Countess of Wessex) who specifically told everyone attending their wedding not to wear one thing. However, some royals completely ignored them.
Read on to find out what that was and who didn’t follow the rules.
What Prince Edward and Sophie told their wedding guests not to wear
Prince Edward and Sophie tied the knot on June 19, 1999, at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle. That chapel has since become a popular spot for royal weddings as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle said “I do” there and so did Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank in 2018. It’s also where then-Prince Charles and Camilla had a marriage blessing after their civil ceremony in 2005.

Every year after Trooping the Colour, which marks the British monarch’s official birthday, members of the royal family gather on Buckingham Palace balcony to watch a flypast and wave to the crowds below. It’s a time-honored tradition and one of the biggest royal events of the year. However, the family has their fair share of awkward moments up on that balcony. Like the one between Meghan Markle and the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) back in 2018.
In his memoir Spare, Prince Harry recalled his wife being asked by her sister-in-law what she thought about her debut Trooping the Colour event, to which Meghan replied: “Colourful.” The duchess’s joke though fell flat as Harry remembered: “A yawning silence threatened to swallow us all whole.”

It’s been a rough few months for members of Britain’s royal family as they have been trying to navigate operating in a new slimmed-down monarchy with two key working royals out of commission.
In January, it was revealed that King Charles and the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) were both hospitalized. After the monarch had a routine procedure for an enlarged prostate, the Palace announced that tests determined the king had cancer and was undergoing treatment. Meanwhile, concerns were growing and there was speculation about his daughter-in-law’s health following her abdominal surgery and lengthy recovery time.
In March, Kate revealed her own cancer diagnosis and that she, too, was undergoing treatment. With two top working royals needing to take a break and shelf their engagements, other working members of the royal family have had to ramp up their duties. Royal watchers have been seeing more of Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh (formerly the Countess of Wessex) recently following the news that both King Charles and the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) were taking a break from their royal engagements as they receive treatment for cancer.
With ramped-up royal duties now, there are more eyes on the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, which is why Sophie’s apparent snub of her nephew, Prince Harry, didn’t go unnoticed during one of her recent engagements.

Britain’s royal family is in unfamiliar territory and something needs to change quickly.
Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022, her oldest son King Charles became the new head of the Firm and put into place his “slimmed-down monarchy,” meaning they’re are fewer working royals to help out with the family’s daily duties and engagements. What the king didn’t count on was both him and his daughter-in-law the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) having to undergo medical procedures and receiving treatment for cancer, which has sidelined them for months.
This has left the remaining working royals stretched pretty thin leaving some like Princess Anne to do multiple engagements a day. And aside from 41-year-old Prince William and 59-year-old Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh (formerly the Countess of Wessex), every other working royal is over the age of 60 with most deep into their 70s and 80s.

Prince William was one of several working royals along with Queen Camilla (formerly Camilla Parker Bowles), Princess Anne, Prince Edward, and the Duchess of Edinburgh who attended the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey.
But William was there without his wife the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) who is still out of commission as she recovers from abdominal surgery. And according to an expert, the Prince of Wales’ body language indicated that he is feeling the “pressure” of everything going on in his life right now.

Following a routine procedure for an enlarged prostate in January, tests concluded that King Charles III has cancer.
A statement released by the Palace on Feb. 5 read in part: “During the king’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer. His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties.”
It’s been more than a month since the monarch began his treatment and there is a tell-tale sign that things are going well with that.

The royal family has dominated the headlines so far in 2024 regarding the health of some senior royals.
It was revealed in mid-January that the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) had abdominal surgery that required a lengthy hospital stay and recovery time at home. Days after Kate’s operation, King Charles was admitted to the same London Clinic hospital and underwent a procedure for an enlarged prostate. It was announced 10 days later that tests found the monarch had cancer and he began receiving treatment.
Now down two senior royals, the family is now stretched pretty thin and feeling the effects of a slimmed-down monarchy which the king’s sister, Princess Anne, never thought was a good idea.

As everyone knows the weather can be unpredictable. And as every woman knows a gust of wind can blow through at any time including when you happen to be wearing a skirt, which could make for an embarassing Marilyn Monroe-esque moment.
Well that has happened to the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) on a few occasions in the past. And it’s the reason why she reportedly wears a lot of clothes now that actually increase static so it’s much harder for her dresses to fly up. But one instance before she adopted that fashion hack took place during a royal wedding where there were plenty of cameras on her. Thankfully she had Prince Edward’s wife Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh (formerly the Countess of Wessex) by her side to help out at that moment.

It seems no member of the royal family is safe from the numerous allegations made in Endgame. The new book by Omid Scobie has leveled several claims against just about every working royal including Duchess Sophie (formerly the Countess of Wessex).
Many believe that the content in the book came directly from Meghan Markle because Scobie has often been referred to as the duchess’s “mouthpiece.” Although he has denied that Meghan had any involvement with the book plenty of royal watchers think if the information didn’t come directly from Prince Harry’s wife, it came from someone in her camp. That’s why Sophie is reportedly “fuming mad” at the author and Meghan over what’s been said about her in Endgame.

Meghan Markle drew a lot of attention and criticism for her reenactment of a curtsy in the Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan. When speaking about the first time she met the late Queen Elizabeth II, the Duke of Sussex’s wife compared the experience to “Medieval Times” before doing an exaggerated bow and curtsy.
Many royal watchers weren’t happy with the duchess’s gesture, prompting them to express their anger via social media. It also prompted an interest in royal curtsies. Videos of various royals performing the act have been shared online. Now, one video has gone viral and is sparking debate over who did the best curtsy at their royal wedding.

Transforming The Crown star Elizabeth Debicki into Princess Diana was no easy feat. The actor spent a combined 30 hours in the makeup chair, where she changed into the Princess of Wales to film scenes for The Crown’s final season. Her spot-on look was an effort between hair, makeup, and wardrobe to achieve a stunning visual effect as season 6 of the Netflix series documents Diana’s last months. But one essential element solidified Debicki’s transformation from just looking like Diana into becoming her.
One element transformed ‘The Crown’ star Elizabeth Debicki into Princess Diana
Actor Elizabeth Debicki shares some similarities with Princess Diana. They are both blonde, tall, and slim.
However, that’s where the similarities stopped, and The Crown‘s makeup, hair, and wardrobe teams took over. Together, they worked to recreate some of Diana’s most iconic looks, including those memorialized in paparazzi photos throughout the mid to late 1990s.

Queen Elizabeth II had a unique style during her 70-plus-year reign. Her outfits were always conservative but never muted as the late monarch opted to wear loud, vibrant colors during public appearances.
Following her death, some royal watchers wondered if King Charles’ wife Queen Camilla (formerly known as Camilla Parker Bowles) would switch her style to mirror the late monarch’s. She has not, and neither has the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton). But there is one royal lady who has been seen donning some attire reminiscent of what Queen Elizabeth used to wear. Read on to find out who that is.

After Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their royal roles and moved to California, they had lots to say about some members of Britain’s most famous family. Prince William and the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) are two of the people the duke and duchess brought up during interviews, in their Netflix docuseries, and in Harry’s memoir Spare. Because of what the Sussexes said publicly and trust being broken, many royal watchers agree that the relationship between the former Fab Four is beyond repair as none of them seem open to reconciliation at this point.

It seemed like the world stopped for a moment on Sept. 8, 2022, when news broke that Queen Elizabeth II had died.
The late monarch was on the throne for more than 70 years, giving her a prominent place in history for a reign that spanned generations. Mourners from all over gathered at many royal residences to leave tributes for the queen. Several members of the royal family made their way to Balmoral Castle in Scotland following the matriarch’s death. And although the family was once known for adopting the stiff upper lip policy some were visibly upset, including Prince Edward’s wife Sophie.

Many royal watchers agree that King Charles III’s reign hasn’t been easy thus far. The king has had to face anti-monarchy protesters showing up at some of his engagements, eggs being tossed at him, a growing number of countries wanting to leave the British Commonwealth, and questions about jewels acquired centuries ago. On top of that, the royal family has dealt with more than a few shots from afar as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have brought about fresh allegations in their Netflix docuseries and in the duke’s memoir Spare.
Something the king has been able to rely on through everything is the unwavering support from several family members, particularly the women in the Firm, who have really rallied around the king since the death of his mother.

Queen Elizabeth II made her final appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony during her Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June 2022. It was reported at the time that given her age and mobility issues, the monarch wasn’t well enough to attend all of the festivities to celebrate her reign. Members of the royal family like the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh (formerly known as the Countess of Wessex) usually look so calm and graceful every time they’re out and about. But just like the rest of us, the women are only human and sometimes lose their composure in public.
That’s exactly what happened during a major event a few years back. Now, a body language expert is breaking down the moment in which the ladies looked “horrified” and what led to that incident.

There were many questions leading up to King Charles III‘s coronation including if Prince Harry would be there, how the affair would be scaled down compared to the late Queen Elizabeth II‘s, and what kind of reception the public would have to the first coronation in 70 years.
The ceremony took place at Westminster Abbey on May 6, 2023, with the Duke of Sussex in attendance. It was a much more toned-down event than Charles’ mother’s was and the king’s major fear was a non-issue. Here’s what Charles told his friend ahead of the coronation that turned out to be wrong.

From time to time, British royals get personal during appearances. Not just by posing for selfies or connecting with members of the public but by sharing their own experiences. Case in point: Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, discussing going through menopause.

While marking her becoming a patron of the Wellbeing of Women charity, Sophie opened up about her own menopause experience.
“You know in the middle of a presentation when you suddenly can’t remember what you were talking about, try being on an engagement when that happens,” she said in a May 2021 video posted to the royal family’s official YouTube channel.
“Your words just go. And you’re standing there and going, ‘Hang on, I thought I was a reasonably intelligent person, what has just happened to me?...

Working royals carry out more than 3,000 engagements annually but none work harder than one family member who doesn’t garner a ton of headlines for it and that’s Princess Anne. Now a former royal employee who worked in the royal household for decades believes that King Charles III‘s “long-suffering” sister may finally be getting the recognition she deserves.
Here’s more on that, plus how Anne puts other members of the Firm to shame with the number of engagements she completes.

Body Language Expert Claims This Is Why King Charles Did Not Look Happy at All During His Coronation
Millions of people tuned in to watch King Charles III‘s coronation on May 6. The grand ceremony was to officially crown Britain’s monarch, something that hasn’t been done in 70 years. But some were confused by the king’s expression and demeanor throughout the ceremony as they were expecting him to be a little more upbeat considering he’s waited most of his life for this moment.
Here’s what a body language expert noticed and believes is the reason Charles did not crack a smile during his coronation.

King Charles III’s coronation was a major royal family event — one that will go down in history, and one the public hasn’t been a part of since his mother was crowned 70 years earlier. The event was an all-day soiree, with the royal ceremony beginning early in the morning and the party continuing into the wee hours of the night. Plus, Sunday’s coronation concert drew people from all over the map and included headliners like Katy Perry and Lionel Richie.
However, only a few days later, a tragic accident occurred: Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh’s royal motorcade collided with an elderly woman, leaving her in critical condition.

When details emerged that Queen Elizabeth II was on her deathbed, several family members began making arrangements to rush to her bedside. That included Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who happened to be in the U.K. when they got the news that the queen was not doing well. However, the Duke of Sussex was told he was welcome at Balmoral Castle to see his grandmother but his wife was not.
Because of that, the Princess of Wales (formerly Kate Middleton) was not permitted to go either and according to a royal author, Kate has never forgotten that and “built up resentment toward Meghan” over it.

Plans and preparations are underway for King Charles III’s coronation on May 6. Some of the questions surrounding the event were about whether Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would be attending and who will be featured on the Buckingham Palace balcony with the new monarch. Well both of those questions have been answered as we now know Harry will attend the ceremony without his wife and the working royals will stand on the balcony with the king.
But for a few of those working royals, this appearance will likely mark one of the last times we’ll see them and therefore will be a final curtain call and thank you for their service.

King Charles III’s coronation is fast approaching and it’s still not known whether Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, will attend. But what we do know is we won’t see them on the famous Buckingham Palace balcony with other members of the royal family if they do choose to attend.

Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, have not yet confirmed if they will attend King Charles III’s coronation. Many royal watchers believed that Harry and Meghan’s attendance depended on whether a list of demands they had would be met. This speculation began after the Duke of Sussex said during an interview in January that a lot needed to be discussed and he hoped his family would have those talks with him before he committed to going.
While the king is said too busy to organize a meeting with his youngest son before the event on May 6, another demand the couple reportedly put forth is to be featured with their children on the Buckingham Palace balcony following the coronation ceremony. That demand too has been denied, and now Prince Harry’s biographer believes the Sussexes are “furious” they won’t be included in that big moment.

On their wedding day, Prince Edward and his bride Sophie became the Earl and Countess of Wessex. It was always thought that one day the prince would take over his late father Prince Philip‘s title, and that came to be when King Charles conferred his brother and sister-in-law as the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.
Now there is a claim that Sophie is especially happy with the title because it means that she no longer has to curtsy to Meghan Markle who previously outranked her. But is that accurate? Here’s what we know about the protocol regarding who curtsies to whom.

Prince Edward‘s wife Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh (formerly the Countess of Wessex) was often referred to as the late Queen Elizabeth II‘s favorite daughter-in-law and one of her most loyal in-laws. Sophie flew under the radar for a long time until she and her husband jumped in to help the family by picking up more engagements after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down as working royals. At the end of 2022, Sophie and Edward were the guests of honor at the annual Royal Variety Performance. But when the couple met with the entertainers backstage, one performer said he had an “awkward” encounter with the now-duchess because of her blunt comments about how he did.
