A native of New Orleans and former jazz saxophonist, Chris Welcker's journey into sound is a blend of diverse experiences. Originally diving into Jazz Studies, Chris found his true calling at the intersection of musical performance, visual arts and electronic media. This unique blend of passions paved his way into the world of commercial scoring, subsequently opening the doors to the feature film and television industry.
Chris worked his way up from Utility Sound Technician to Boom Operator on notable projects under the leadership of several top sound mixers in the industry, each role enriching his understanding and craftsmanship in sound. Mentored by the esteemed Oscar Winning Kirk Francis, Chris transitioned to a Production Sound Mixer with his debut on the Key & Peele comedy feature, "Keanu". His deep-rooted love for music then led him to work on the Mötley Crüe biopic "The Dirt" and later "Bill and Ted Face The Music", revisiting the melodies of his childhood.
His rich musical background and varied project experience culminated in his role as production sound mixer for "Daisy Jones & The Six", an Amazon Prime and Hello Sunshine Series. This project not only won Chris an Emmy for Outstanding Sound Mixing but also earned him a Cinema Audio Society Award Nomination for the series finale. His work on the series was not just a technical feat but a testament to his ability to lead a team of diverse, creative and thoughtful sound professionals.
Looking forward, Chris continues to be driven by his passion for music and technology seeking out projects that challenge him to blend his creativity with the evolving art of sound mixing. His journey, rooted in music and visual storytelling, continues to resonate through every project he touches.
