The Last of Us struck a nerve with its story of a grizzled cynic shepherding a youngster across a treacherous post-apocalyptic America. But Sweet Tooth got there first, even if it didn’t create as much of a fuss. The dark Netflix YA drama premiered in June 2021, when the Covid pandemic was still very much top of mind. In telling the story of a little boy with deer antlers and his massive, taciturn protector, the show achieved an off-kilter, dystopian sweetness that made for a winning combination. Then it went away.

Review: When the first season of Sweet Tooth premiered back in 2021, I called it the show of the summer. The epic adaptation of Jeff Lemire’s acclaimed comic book series managed to take a dark, violent, and mature comic and transform it into an all-ages adventure without sacrificing the quality of the source material. The second season of Sweet Tooth improves upon the first by expanding the characters we have met, allowing them to interact with new counterparts and locations and still keeping the adventure, intensity, and originality on display. The charming little animal-child hybrid show is back for a second season, which is sure to be an immediate success amongst fans. The series that surprised viewers across the globe during the pandemic became a super hit in days due to its chirpy little Deer Boy and the Big Man with more heart than anything else. “Sweet Tooth” was a hopeful story that didn’t feel like a burden at the time of a pandemic but rather gave people the dopamine boost they needed during the dreaded times of the lockdown. While it retains its dose of “cute and amusing,” it also manages to get deeper into the darker aspects of things without becoming overbearing or boring. But now it has the opportunity to become a bigger hit among a wider audience that wants to invest in a more emotional and perhaps bleaker atmosphere. Amongst the insanely successful satirical dramas,...

Sweet Tooth is a series created by Jim Mickle and Beth Schwartz starring Nonso Anozie and Christian Convery. Based on the comic book by Jeff Lemire.
Today, Thursday the 27th, we get the second season of this charming story that mixes a post-apocalypse scenario with Spielberg’s E.T. vibes in a truly surprising and engaging way.
We don’t know what Cormac McCarthy might think about it, but we love it.
Sweet Tooth About the Series
Emotion, adventures, and that childish charm, with a naive touch of Goonies, E.T., and all that 80s style that captivates us, but updated to match the brutal modernity of The Last of Us… All of this well done and with characters created to reach… our hearts, but to proceed to open-heart surgery with no anesthesia.
It may be that the formulas are somewhat obvious, that the series is too direct, that it lacks subtlety in the treatment…...

The sweetest little deer boy in all of the post-apocalyptic U.S. is returning to Netflix this month. "Sweet Tooth," based on the comic series of the same name by Jeff Lemire, debuted in 2021, telling an eerily topical story about humanity in the wake of a deadly pandemic. Around the same time that "The Sick" (also known as the H5G9 virus) emerged, children began to be born as human-animal hybrids. While these children were blamed for the sickness and hunted down by a citizen militia called the Last Men, Gus (Christian Convery) was hidden away from the world by his father (Will Forte), until the day his "Pubba" was killed and Gus wandered out into the world with a new guardian: former militiaman Tommy "Big Man" Jepperd (Nonso Anozie).

Sweet Tooth Season 2 Trailer: Hybrids And Humans Still Can't Get Along In Netflix's DC Comics Series
If there's anything that the recent premiere of "The Last of Us" showed us, it's that there's still plenty of juice to wring out of the post-apocalyptic genre. The HBO show took its cues from the acclaimed video game series to give us another "Lone Wolf and Cub" story about a grizzled old man and the young ward he'll stop at nothing to protect. "Sweet Tooth," on the other hand, resides at the other end of the spectrum. Focusing on a group of kids who just happen to be, well, mutant hybrids, the Netflix series is adapted from the DC Comics series written and drawn by Jeff Lemire. Season 1 bowed in 2021 to exceptionally strong reviews and even a bevy of Emmy nominations, of which it won two: for Outstanding Supporting Performance and Outstanding Sound Mixing and Sound Editing.

Sweet Tooth's story is far from over.
Netflix on Thursday announced a renewal for Sweet Tooth Season, citing what the company calls as "60 million member households" watching the show in its first four weeks.
As is the case with Netflix's arbitrary numbers, the number above means that each of those households watched at two minutes of the series.
Sweet Tooth Season 2 will consist of 8 1-hour episodes.
Jim Mickle will serve as Executive Producer, Writer, Director, and Showrunner for season 2. Mickle said of the renewal,
“It’s been equally thrilling and heartwarming to experience how people around the world have been falling in love with our deer-boy."
"We couldn’t be more excited to continue our collaboration with Netflix and keep following Gus and his friends on their extraordinary journey,” he continued.
In addition to Mickle, Team Downey’s Susan Downey, Robert Downey Jr., and Amanda Burrell, and Linda Moran will return as Executive Producers.

In the world of Sweet Tooth, a deadly virus swept through the population 10 years ago, killing the majority of people who become infected. The arrival of this virus—The Sick—coincided with the emergence of hybrids, children who are born part human and part animal. No one knows which came first, the virus or the hybrids, or if one caused the other, but naturally people react to hybrids with fear and mistrust after “The Great Crumble.”
Sweet Tooth is adapted from a comic series of the same name written and drawn by Jeff Lemire for DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint. The story follows Gus (Christian Convery), a deer-hybrid boy, who is raised in isolation deep in the Yellowstone Forests by his father, “Pubba” (Will Forte) who teaches him how to survive by staying hidden. When hybrid-hunting Last Men find them, Pubba protects Gus and their home,...

Much of the early concern around a show like “Sweet Tooth” — a fantasy adventure based on existing I.P. that targets all four quadrants while ostensibly posing as a kids’ show — is that it will either be sweet to the point of saccharine or awkwardly imbalanced in trying to please too many audiences. Kids can’t watch a show that’s too violent (and they won’t watch one that’s too complicated), while parents typically can’t stomach anything that tugs on the heartstrings so hard that their eyes roll out of their head.
Thankfully, and somewhat in spite of itself, “Sweet Tooth” manages to thread the needle. (Or thread the floss?) Based on Jeff Lemire’s DC comic books and adapted by “Hap & Leonard’s” Jim Mickle, the eight-part Netflix series follows a “hybrid deer-boy” (their words) who travels across a post-apocalyptic America in search of his mother,...

Based on the DC comic book by Jeff Lemire, “Sweet Tooth” will globally premiere on Netflix on June 4.
The eight-episode series takes place years after “The Great Crumble” changed everything. A hybrid deer-boy befriends a wandering loner and together they embark on an extraordinary adventure through the dangerous, but lush world left behind in order to find the meaning of home.
“We wanted to make a show that offers escape and adventure, where nature is reclaiming the world and in many ways it feels like a fairytale,” writer, executive producer and director Jim Mickle said. “‘Sweet Tooth’ is a new kind of dystopian story, it’s very lush and hopeful. We want people to come into this world where there’s beauty and hope and adventure. This is a sweeping story — we ride on trains, climb mountaintops, run through forests. This is a show about what makes a family, what home really means,...
