Up and down...and up again! The Hobbit is now close to landing a director in Lord of the Rings-experienced Peter Jackson. Deadline's Mike Fleming adds that even before Guillermo del Toro left as director, Warner Bros as well as MGM had set December, 2012 and December, 2013 as release dates which replicate the release pattern of the Lord of the Rings trilogy of films. Deadline went on to consider how this might spur on Warner Bros. to bring the Lotr trilogy to 3D as well. In truth, Hobbit in 3D as well as the previous Lotr films, would be a remarkable visual experience. I'll be first in line... Rumored cast so far are Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving, Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis, Doug Jones, Sylvester McCoy and Phil Gwilliam. Of those, Ian McCellan looks most certain to return.
