Tom Cruise, undoubtedly, continues to be one of the biggest enigmas in Hollywood. Arguably the biggest action star and one of the leading lights in Hollywood, the actor has given us some truly wonderful projects.

Yet, he remains without an Academy Award. The same has been brought to light by Léa Seydoux, star of James Bond’s Spectre and No Time to Die. Seydoux, while appearing on Konbini, expressed her admiration for Cruise’s diverse talent and lamented his lack of recognition from the Oscars.

However, after raising the Academy with the threat that he would retire from acting if Denis Villeneuve was not nominated for Best Director for Dune: Part Two, the actor may have had his bluff called, as the filmmaker was not called during this morning’s nomination announcement for the 97th Academy Awards.

With it time to show his hand, Josh Brolin has not yet revealed if he was being hyperbolic or if his time as Gurney Halleck has ended. French filmmaker Rebecca Zlotowski, who’s just wrapped filming of “Vie Privée” starring Jodie Foster in Paris, received the French Cinema Award at a jam-packed ceremony held in an ornate room of the Ministry of Culture on Jan. 16.

Zendaya was the most-watched female actor again, thanks to her roles in ‘Dune: Part 2’ and ‘Challengers.’ Dune: Part 2 was the top-rated movie of the year, with a 4.4-star rating, and its director, Denis Villeneuve, was the most-watched director.

Dune and Dune: Part Two director Denis Villeneuve has stated that he has no intention of helming any more movies in the franchise after his planned Dune: Messiah adaptation, but that doesn't mean Warner Bros. will stop making them!

According to scooper Daniel Richtman (and backed up by a report from World of Reel), the studio is planning to move forward with at least one more Dune movie and a second TV series.

HBO's Dune: Prophecy was not as acclaimed as the films, but it reportedly did pretty well from a viewership standpoint.

The first two movies were big successes, but a fourth chapter would still be somewhat surprising given the direction Frank Herbert's saga goes in after the second book. Villeneuve has shown little interest in adapting the later novels, Children of Dune and God Emperor of Dune, as he feels the story starts to become too "esoteric.

James Bond romanced dozens of Bond Girls in the 25 James Bond movies, but some Bond Girls were villainous henchwomen out to kill 007. Evil Bond Girls are as much a staple of the 007 franchise as vodka martinis, Bond's Aston Martin DB5, and the many women who were James Bond's lovers in his various films. In some cases, evil Bond Girls tried to execute James after they slept with him.

Interestingly, two versions of James Bond didn't face outright homicidal Bond Girls. Timothy Dalton's two Bond movies, The Living Daylights (1987) and License to Kill (1989), lacked Bond Girls who were dedicated to murdering 007. Daniel Craig's James Bond movies introduced several Bond Girls, including the iconic Vesper Lynd (Eva Green) in Casino Royale (2006) and the underrated Dr. Madeleine Swann (Lea Seydoux) in Spectre (2015) and No Time To Die (2021), but Craig's 007 also didn't battle malevolent Bond Girls out to end his life.

2024 has come to an end, and while this year wasn’t the greatest year for films or Hollywood after the disastrous pandemic and the Writers’ and Actors’ strike, it did see the release of some great films. From the much-anticipated sequel of the sci-fi film Dune to the superhero buddy-comedy film no one thought would ever happen, Deadpool & Wolverine. Right off the bat, everything looks alien – the color is washed out, and the black-and-white visuals are deep and disturbing. Daniel Craig may have been a controversial choice when he was first cast as 007, but several of his James Bond movies received immense critical acclaim. Craig appeared as a young and reckless James Bond in 2006's Casino Royale. Craig's first movie as 007 is often regarded as one of the best James Bond movies, and proved that he would be exceptional in the role. After Casino Royale, Craig ended up starring in four more James Bond movies.

2008's Quantum of Solace was negatively impacted by the Writers Guild of America strike, and was therefore not as well-received. However, the James Bond franchise made a comeback with 2012's Skyfall, which was heavily praised for its deeply personal story about the titular spy. After Skyfall, Craig also starred as 007 in 2015's Spectre before concluding his run as James Bond in 2021's No Time to Die.

The comedy genre underwent a lot of change in the 2010s, and the roles of villains started to shift too. As opposed to the optimistic, broad comedies that dominated the 2000s, many of the best comedy movies of the 2010s are rather dark and cynical. This change meant that a lot of comedies went without villains in the 2010s, choosing to explore anti-heroes, villain protagonists, or stories without clear man vs. man conflict.

Despite the changes in the comedy genre, there are still some great villains from the 2010s who stand out. In some cases, these villains aren't supposed to be funny, but they create tension and conflict which brings the best out of the hero. The days of Dr. Evil, White Goodman and Jacobim Mugatu faded before the 2010s, but the decade still produced a few hilarious movie villains.

We recently learned that acclaimed filmmaker Luca Guadagnino is set to helm a new adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis' controversial 1991 novel American Psycho for Lionsgate, and the project has now found its lead.

According to Variety, Austin Butler has been cast as yuppie serial killer Patrick Bateman.

The script, which was penned by Scott Z. Burns, is said to be a brand-new interpretation of the book and not a remake of the 2000 film starring Christian Bale.

The story focuses on “A wealthy New York City investment banking executive who hides his alternate psychopathic ego from his co-workers and friends as he delves deeper into his violent, hedonistic fantasies.”

The book was deemed so disturbing and graphic in its depictions of violence that it ended up being censored and even banned outright (temporarily) in multiple countries.

Deadline’s Read the Screenplay series spotlighting the year’s most talked-about scripts continues with Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures’ Dune: Part Two, the anticipated follow-up to 2021’s six-time Oscar-winning Dune. Denis Villeneuve directed from a screenplay he and Jon Spaihts wrote based on Frank Herbert’s seminal sci-fi novel.

Austin Butler is looking to get a little crazy in Luca Guadagnino’s “American Psycho” remake.

Butler, who has made his career working with auteurs such as Baz Luhrmann, Denis Villeneuve, Ari Aster, Darren Aronofsky, and Jeff Nichols, might have his Guadagnino debut with the upcoming feature. Variety reported that Butler is in talks to star as the iconic Patrick Bateman in Guadagnino’s reimagining of Bret Easton Ellis’ novel.

IndieWire has learned that there are no casting deals are in place, however.

The Lionsgate film was announced earlier this year, with Scott Z. Burns adapting the novel for the screen.

Christian Bale led the original 2000 film alongside Guadagnino’s frequent collaborator Chloë Sevigny; Mary Harron co-wrote and directed the classic feature. Guadagnino’s version will not be a remake of Harron’s but rather a new adaptation of Ellis’ book.

Dune and Dune: Part Two director Denis Villeneuve has often mentioned that he is (or was) a huge Star Wars fan, and has even suggested that George Lucas' original trilogy was an early influence on his decision to pursue a career as a filmmaker.

Despite his love for the franchise, Villeneuve has now explained why he has no interest in directing a movie set in the galaxy far, far away.

While chatting to The Town Podcast, Villeneuve said directing a Star Wars movie simply isn't "a dream of his" because "Star Wars became crystallized in its own mythology, very dogmatic, it seemed like a recipe, no more surprises."

He also feels that Return of the Jedi derailed the franchise back in 1983.

“I was the target audience. I was 10 years old. It went to my brain like a silver bullet. I became obsessed with Star Wars. I mean, The Empire Strikes Back...

Despite the first Dune movie picking up a nomination for Best Picture at the 2022 Academy Awards, Denis Villeneuve was not nominated for Best Director. Understandably, this didn't sit very well with a lot of people - including star Josh Brolin.

Brolin, who played loyal Atreides War Master Gurney Halleck in both movies, was very vocal about Villeneuve being overlooked the first time, and is even more adamant that the filmmaker should be recognized by the Academy for his work on recent sequel, Dune: Part Two.

“If he doesn’t get nominated this year, I’ll quit acting,” Brolin tells Variety. “It was a better movie than the first one. When I watched it, it felt like my brain was broken open. It’s masterful, and Denis is one of our master filmmakers. If the Academy Awards have any meaning whatsoever, they’ll recognize him.”

Omar Apollo may have made his acting debut with “Queer,” but he’s not limiting his collaborations with Luca Guadagnino at just feature films: The duo have reunited for music video “Te Maldigo,” which Apollo announced as a partnership with A24.

The song also brings Grammy-nominated Apollo back with “Queer” composers Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, who also collaborated with Guadagnino on the “Challengers” score.

The video brings audiences into the underground bar scene that “Queer” encapsulates. The video, like the feature, is set in Mexico City post-wwii. Apollo sings onstage in the short film, which debuted at midnight on November 21.

Produced by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, who composed the score for the film, “Te Maldigo” is Apollo’s first song entirely in Spanish since 2022’s “En El Olvido.” The track is the first single from Apollo’s sophomore album “God Said No,” which was released in May 2024.

Luca Guadagnino and Daniel Craig might have another novel adaptation in the works after collaborating together on “Queer.” But this rumored adaptation isn’t Burroughs; it’s actually a comic book.

According to a Deadline report, auteur Guadagnino and lead star Craig are in talks to bring DC Studios’ “Sgt. Rock” to the screen. Deadline noted that no deals have been confirmed between DC Studios, Craig, or Guadagnino. DC Studios did not respond to a request for comment.

The character of Sgt. Franklin John Rock, assumed to be played by Craig given the report, was created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert for the 1959 DC issue, “Our Army at War.” Like Craig’s “Queer” character, Rock is a WWII veteran. Rock landed his own comic book series, which ran from 1977 to 1988.

Variety cited that Justin Kuritzkes, who wrote “Challengers” and “Queer,” has a script for the DC feature.

The “Death Stranding” video game creator Kojima praised Todd Phillips’ critically panned box-office disaster sequel on X, formerly known as Twitter, saying that in the next 10 to 20 years, “Joker: Folie à Deux” could be considered a classic film.

“Over the next 10 or 20 years, this film’s reputation will likely change along with the permeation of hero movies to come. It may take some time for it to become a true ‘folie à deux,’” Kojima wrote. “But there is no doubt that everyone in the audience loved Joaquin and Gaga in this film.”

The alien invasion comedy hails from Sasquatch Sunset directors David and Nathan Zellner and will go up for sale at next month’s American Film Market.

With so many brilliant names attached to it, we can’t see the film having too many problems being snapped up and following that, production is set to get underway in the spring. The story sounds really fun: ‘taking place in the 1950s, it follows a group of alien invaders as they pretend to be a leather-clad biker gang.
