Veep‘s election fundraiser reunion has booked some special guests.
Joining the cast and writers of HBO’s iconic political comedy for a live table read event on Sunday are Veep creator Armando Iannucci, along with Larry David, Jason Alexander and Kevin Smith.
“We’re so thrilled to have Armando, the creator of Veep, joining us,” Veep‘s showrunner David Mandel tells The Hollywood Reporter. “And I am so excited to have my old boss Larry David along with Jason Alexander. It’s kind of like a mini-Seinfeld reunion stuffed inside a Veep reunion. Like a turducken.”
Of the filmmaker of such classic franchises as Jay and Silent Bob and Mallrats, Mandel adds, “Kevin Smith is the biggest Veep fan I know and his movies have always been as wonderfully foul as Veep, so it’s a perfect combination to have him as part of our table read!”

Ahead of the 2024 election, Louis-Dreyfus and the cast of Veep are reuniting for a table read of “Crate,” the pivotal episode in Season Three where Selina receives the news that the Potus baton is being passed to her.

When President Joe Biden announced he was dropping his 2024 re-election bid and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to be the Democratic presidential nominee, Veep started to see a resurgence both in Max viewership and on social media. And one of the most recirculated and memed moments in the wake of the Biden-Harris news was a scene when Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ character finds out she’s going to be president of the United States.
Since so many people have been rewatching that Veep scene, Louis-Dreyfus and the cast of the hit, Emmy-winning political comedy have now decided to reunite for a virtual table read of that episode in support of “helping Dems win up and down the ballot in Wisconsin,” the star and executive producer announced on Thursday, along with the Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler.

Earlier this month, Eric Hovde, the Wisconsin Senate candidate endorsed by Donald Trump, suggested that many senior citizens in nursing homes are not qualified to vote.
“We had nursing homes where the sheriff of Racine investigated, where you had 100% voting in nursing homes,” Hovde said of the 2020 election during an interview on the Guy Benson Show. “Well, if you’re in a nursing home, you only have five, six months life expectancy. Almost nobody in a nursing home is in a point to vote. And you have children, adult children showing up that said, who voted for my 85- or 90-year-old father or mother?”
The Wisconsin Senate Candidate’s campaign spokesman said he did not mean to imply that elderly people should not vote.
“In no manner did Eric Hovde suggest that elderly people should not vote,” Hovde spokesman Ben Voelkel said in a statement. “He was referring to specific cases in Racine Co.

Trump-endorsed Senate candidate Eric Hovde thinks people in nursing homes can’t vote on their own because — in his mind — they’re all at death’s doorstep.
During an April 5 interview on The Guy Benson Show, Hovde, a Republican running to unseat Democratic Wisconsin Sen. Tammy Baldwin, claimed that it was suspicious that some nursing homes in Wisconsin had “100-percent voting” percentages.

Wisconsin is famous for its booze. The brands Miller, Schlitz, Pabst, and Blatz were all founded in Milwaukee, a city whose baseball team is the Brewers, and which is often called the “beer capital of the world.” Across the state, bars outnumber grocery stores roughly three-to-one, for a total of about eight pubs per every 10,000 people. To say alcohol is an important industry in Wisconsin is to undersell the fact: It accounts for more than 161,000 jobs that pay out roughly $3.2 billion in wages a year and generates $2.6 billion in tax revenue,...

The House gave final passage on Thursday to legislation to ensure federal recognition of same-sex and interracial unions, clearing a final milestone in Congress before going to President Joe Biden.
The legislation passed by a vote of 258-169. One member of House Republican leadership, Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-ny) joined with 38 other GOP members in voting for the bill. Rep. Tom Emmer (R-mn), who chaired the National Republican Congressional Commitee in the most recent midterms, also voted for it, along with Rep. Liz Cheney (R-wy).
Democrats erupted in cheers as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the final tally, with some LGBTQ members, including Sean Patrick Maloney of New York and Mark Takano of California hugging their colleagues. Barney Frank, the former congressman who was one of the most prominent openly gay members, was present on the floor for the vote, chatting and shaking hands with former colleagues.

Update: The Senate passed a bill to protect same-sex and interracial marriage rights at the federal level, drawing bipartisan support for legislation likely to clear Congress and be signed by President Joe Biden.
The Supreme Court advanced marriage equality in several landmark decisions over the past 55 years, but the court’s decision in June to reverse Roe vs. Wade has raised fears that other precedents may also be in jeopardy.
“The first people I will call when this bill passes is my daughter and her wife,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said on the floor of the Senate before the final vote. After members clapped when the final roll call was announced, Schumer said, “What a great day.”

More than 100 Democrats in the House and Senate and independent Bernie Sanders have signed a letter urging the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers to negotiate a fair contract with IATSE, saying, “We are united in our belief in the importance of livable wages, sustainable benefits, and reasonable rest periods between shifts and during the workday” – three of the union’s core demands.
The letter was signed by 31 senators and 87 representatives and sent to AMPTP president Carol Lombardini.
The union’s members begin voting on strike authorization Friday in advance of what could be the last round of bargaining before a strike that would shut down film and TV productions across the country.
The politicians also reminded Lombardini that industry workers “risked their health and safety” during the pandemic, and that “the entertainment you jointly produce is helping to heal our nation.”

In its place on the Dems’ side were a week of morning and afternoon meetings followed by a primetime block from 9-11 p.m. Et each night that features marquee speeches and musical performances including from Billie Eilish, John Legend and Jennifer Hudson.
Harris and former President Barack Obama fueled Wednesday night’s program, with Harris accepting the VP nomination to make history as the first woman of color to do so.

At virtual concert for Joe Biden on Sunday, John Legend and Andra Day performed a socially distanced duet of Greatest Love Of All, a chorus and Kristin Chenoweth sang numbers with specially written campaign lyrics, and Barbra Streisand delivered eight minutes of closing remarks that were both an endorsement of the candidate and a sharp rebuke of Donald Trump.

The WGA West’s political action committee had a strong midterm election night, helping to flip the House of Representatives. Twenty-six of the 31 candidates it endorsed – all Democrats – were elected, including 18 of the 19 House candidates it backed, and nine of its 14 senatorial picks.
Most of the candidates it supported were incumbents, but the union also backed two candidates who defeated incumbent Republicans: Jackie Rosen, who unseated Nevada Sen. The guild’s Pac, which backed up its endorsements with more than $200,000 in campaign contributions, also supported winning senators Dianne Feinstein, Elizabeth Warren, Jon Tester, Tammy Baldwin, Sherrod Brown, Maria Cantwell and Amy Klobuchar along with Bernie Sanders, an independent who caucuses with the Dems. Most of the candidates it supported were incumbents, but the union also backed two candidates who defeated incumbent Republicans: Jackie Rosen, who unseated Nevada Sen. Dean Heller, and Harley Rouda, who ousted longtime Southern California Rep. Dana Rohrabacher and helped give the Democrats control of the House.

The Brett Kavanaugh Supreme Court battle has turned into one of the most contentious nominations in our nation’s history. President Trump’s nominee has been accused of past sexual assaults and of being dishonest before the Senate.
Despite testimony by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, Kavanaugh’s nomination cleared the Senate Judiciary Committee on a party-line vote on September 28th. Following an unaccountably incomplete investigation by the FBI, Kavanaugh’s nomination cleared a key procedural hurdle, setting up a final vote this weekend.

Exclusive: The WGA West’s political action committee has endorsed 12 Senate and 15 House candidates in the upcoming midterms “who support the guild’s public policy priorities.” Dianne Feinstein, Elizabeth Warren and Adam Schiff are among the recipients of Pac money, and they’re all Democrats except for Vermont’s Bernie Sanders, a Socialist who caucuses with the Dems.
All the senatorial candidates are incumbents, but four of the House candidates are challengers who the Pac says could “help flip the House” from Republican to Democratic control.
The Pac, which is seeking donations in a push to regain Democratic majorities in the House and Senate, has made some $450,000 in campaign contributions since 2009. It relies strictly on voluntary donations – guild members’ dues are not involved.
“I’m very proud of the continuing development and influence of our Pac since its founding ten years ago,” WGA West president David A. Goodman told Deadline.

Out Magazine is unveiling its annual list of the most influential members of the Lgbtq community.
Rachel Maddow topped this year’s list, with Anderson Cooper and Ellen DeGeneres taking the second and third spots respectively. The MSNBC anchor, 44, has the number one cable news show among adults, and her reporting on The Rachel Maddow Show helped her network beat rival CNN this quarter for the first time since the spring of 2014.
After reaching nearly 3 million viewers one night earlier this week, it’s easy to see why Maddow’s sphere of influence has earned her the top spot — an...

Typically, the words "Yes, Dear reunion" wouldn't get me excited but in this case we're going to get to see Mike O'Maley (along with Liza Snyder) on Raising Hope, as reported by EW. They'll play a couple that finds the sex tape Burt and Virginia lost.
IFC's getting into the animated comedy business. Out There will follow three socially awkward boys living in a small town, with a voice cast that will include Megan Mullally, Linda Cardinelli, Pamela Adlon and Fred Armisen.
In an interview with Vulture, Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan says that Casablanca provides the bar for Breaking Bad's finale, "No one gets everything they wanted. The guy doesn’t get the girl, but he has the satisfaction of knowing she wants him. And he doesn’t get her because he has to save the free world.

Good morning! I'm so happy that today is a day where I'm proud to be an American. As my friend Kat Maund said last night, "The country just got a whole lot gayer." Thank you to everyone of you who voted.
Tammy Baldwin is officially our first lesbian senator (f yeah!) but someone on Twitter thinks Lucy Lawless would be great, too.
Can I just say, Gays &Nerds are my life. “@happykt: @reallucylawless You'd make a kick ass Us lesbian senator. Just saying! Lol”

In some other super rad news, Fortune Feimster is working on her own show for ABC! It'll be a half-hour comedy called Discounted, and Fortune will star as one of two half-sisters who are running a struggling furniture store. It sounds like Roseanne meets Ellen. I'm in!

Academy Award winning actress Geena Davis joined Senator Kay Hagan (D-nc) and Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin (D- Wi) on Capitol Hill on Wednesday to introduce a bill that would support efforts to improve the image of girls and women in the media. “I am proud to join with Sen. Hagan and Rep.
