Michael Oher’s real-life story’s far from the feel-good narrative you saw in The Blind Side. While the Sandra Bullock-led movie won hearts and awards, it left Oher feeling trapped in a stereotype he never asked for. Imagine watching a blockbuster about your life and realizing it paints you as someone you barely recognize! Oher had spoken out about how the movie made him look dumb, and the label stuck.

Lily Collins had one advantage when she entered the film industry with the 2009 film, The Blind Side. She shared the screen alongside one of the top actresses in the world, Sandra Bullock. Bullock went on to win her only Academy Award for her role Leigh Anne Tuohy in the film. Collins played the role of Collins Tuohy, the daughter of the Tuohys.

Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy were seen strolling around their neighbourhood in Florida over the weekend, marking the first time they’ve been seen in public since Michael Oher filed his high-profile lawsuit against his former adoptive parents.
In photos obtained and published by The Daily Mail, the Tuohys were spotted taking a walk in the Santa Rosa Beach area of Florida.
Leigh Anne wore a white t-shirt and a pink tennis skirt along with white sneakers, and a hot pink fanny pack while rocking white earbuds.
Meanwhile, Sean walked alongside her in dark blue shorts and a light blue t-shirt, as they strolled and chatted with an unknown third person.

Amid the ongoing legal drama between Michael Oher and the Tuohy family, author Michael Lewis — who wrote the book which the 2009 Oscar-nominated film “The Blind Side” was adapted from — is weighing in.
Recently, Oher — the former NFL star who was the inspiration behind the book and the film — filed legal documents in Tennessee court requesting it terminate a conservatorship after alleging Leigh Anne Tuohy and Sean Tuohy lied about adopting him and tricked him into making them his conservators shortly after he turned 18.
Oher claims the Tuohys made millions off his name while he never received a dime, after the film — starring Sandra Bullock, Quinton Aaron, Jae Head, Tim McGraw, Lily Collins and Kathy Bates — earned more than $300 million at the box office.
However, Lewis claims that, despite the film’s success, none of the real-life figures who inspired the film have gotten nearly any money from it in the 13 years since its release.

I'm So Excited (15)
(Pedro Almodóvar, 2012, Spa) Javier Cámara, Raúl Arévalo, Carlos Areces. 90 mins
Almodóvar responds to his country's economic woes with camp hysteria and Carry On humour. In many ways this airborne disaster farce – anarchic, absurdist, garishly stylish and gleefully debauched – is a return to the Spanish auteur's subversive roots. But there's a serious subtext to the silliness, and the metaphors are brought back down to earth for a satisfying landing.
The Eye Of The Storm (15)
(Fred Schepisi, 2011, Aus) Charlotte Rampling, Geoffrey Rush, Judy Davis. 119 mins
The imminent death of Rampling's matriarch throws an aristocratic family's dysfunction into relief in this Aussie drama, whose overstuffed story is redeemed by three watchable leads.

Stars: Kim Coates, Penelope Ann Miller, Joaquim de Almeida, David Eigenberg, Jae Head, Bobby Coleman, Peter Jason, Holliston Coleman, Billy Slaughter | Written by Avi Arad, Max Botkin | Directed by Sean McNamara
Originally announced way back in 2008, Robosapien has had a long gestation period and has gone through numerous re-titles (including Cody the Robosapien and Robosapien: Rebooted) since being filmed in New Orleans some 5 years ago. Helmed by longtime kids TV director Sean McNamara (Even Stevens, That’s So Raven, Bratz), the film is a family-friendly adventure film with a heart, the type of movie which rarely gets made outside of the TV movie arena these days…
The film is based (loosely) on Wow Wee’s robotic toy of the same name, and tells the story of an inventor working for Kinetech Labs who designs a robot for search and rescue missions that has the ability to mimic human actions and emotions.

Following on from his emotional teenage drama Soul Surfer, director Sean McNamara returns to a more infantile approach, as the director of successful kids’ TV shows That’s So Raven and Even Stevens now presents Robosapien, a film that is reminiscent of children’s films such as Agent Cody Banks. And yes, I have seen Agent Cody Banks.
When the multi-million dollar robot prototype Robosapien (Jae Head) is separated from his creator (David Eigenberg), he is discovered and reformed by the youngster Henry (Bobby Coleman), a lonely kid who is bullied at school. Living at home with his mother (Penelope Ann Miller) and older sister (Holliston Coleman), the trio decide to take this tremendously intelligent robot into their care, although when the organisation that funded Robosapien are wanting him returned, Henry and his new best friend may just have a fight on their hands to stay together.

Chicago – Nicholas Sparks is the Michael Bay of touchy-feely weepies. No matter how derivative or cynically calculating his stories prove to be, they never fail to rake in the dough. Several of his books have been turned into blockbusters, the best of which benefit greatly from the strength of their cast, as in “A Walk to Remember” and “The Notebook.”
Unfortunately, “The Last Song,” stars The Artist Currently Known as Hannah Montana, Miley Cyrus, who seems uncomfortable acting without a laugh track. Her initial attempt at graduating from the Mickey Mouse Club into big girl roles was admittedly doomed from the start, since this Sparks adaptation is the first co-written by the author himself, who succeeds in making his work appear even more cloying onscreen. This is the cuddliest cancer drama since “My Sister’s Keeper.”

This is the review of The Blind Side by award-winning writer, director and producer Garth Twa, in which he gives the film 1 star. The Blind Side is directed by John Lee Hancock and starring Sandra Bullock, Tim McGraw, Quinton Aaron, Jae Head, Lily Collins, Ray McKinnon, Kim Dickens, Adriane Lenox and Kathy Bates. I was in awe of this movie; stunned. Stunned that it had made it to the big screen, let alone the Oscars. It’s glossy fodder for the Trinity Broadcasting Channel, a right-wing Christian wet dream: neo-colonial buildings, no litter, no negroes, no gays, a big house, squeaky pink children with no trace of libidos, a fortune gained without guilt by blighting the minority masses with growth hormone-laced fast food, self-righteous Bush-era arrogance, and card-carrying NRA motherhood (guns don’t kill people, Avon Lady Christian moms just clean up ghettos – or, as Dirty Harry, said, ‘Nothing wrong...

Did you catch The Blind Side at the weekend? Did Sandra Bullock deserve her Oscar, or is the Academy guilty of rewarding a mushy, sugar-coated slice of sentimentality?
It's been praised in the Us as a feel good study of human nature at its most transcendent: the tale of a well-heeled southern Christian Republican mom who took in an oversized black teenager from the wrong side of the tracks and helped him turn his life around. Yet on this side of the Atlantic at least, The Blind Side has been roundly pilloried for its patronising TV-movie-esque take on what most critics suspect must have been a far more complex real-life story.
Michael Oher, the giant bear of a boy at the heart of the film, is now a successful offensive tackle for the Baltimore Ravens NFL side, and Leigh Anne Tuohy, played here by Sandra Bullock, really did adopt him...

It's always somewhat unfortunate when the best performance of an actor's career doesn't quite have the merit such a statement would infer. In the case of Sandra Bullock, The Blind Side is definitely that. She's easily at her best as the outspoken Leigh Anne Tuohy seeking to improve the life of a young man whom, before meeting Leigh Anne, was living a hard life with no aspirations of playing the game that plays such a large part in the Tuohys' lives. Leigh Anne plucks the large boy from a life of poverty, takes him in, and teaches him the value of family through both her actions and football. It may be a respectable entry in the inspirational sports film genre, and Bullock's turn as Tuohy is impressive, but more due to the lack of compelling competition – for both of them. Most inspirational sports films are awful, and most of Bullock's...

Sandra Bullock's Oscar-winner is wholly unconvincing, says Peter Bradshaw
The true-life story from which this Oscar-winning movie is taken may well be every bit as inspirational and remarkable as its fans believe it to be. But the film itself is dead from the neck up and the neck down: a Photoshopped image of reality that is bland, parochial, and stereotypically acted by a cast who have nothing like the subtlety and range of Trey Parker's puppets from Team America: World Police. Sandra Bullock got her Oscar for playing the tough-love Christian Republican wife and mother who takes in a troubled African-American teen and motivates him to greatness on the football field. Her performance is dominated by a strangely humourless glazed expression – the same with or without sunglasses – an intermittent clenched smile and a frosted blond do that looks as if it would splinter if you chipped it.

Chicago – Most critics and industry types expected “The Blind Side” with Sandra Bullock to be a modest holiday season hit but if a single one of them, including the people who made the film, told you that they knew this would be an Oscar-winning Best Picture nominee that grossed over $250 million, they are straight-up lying. “The Blind Side” shattered all expectations and Warner Brothers has quickly and somewhat lazily shuffled it off to Blu-ray and DVD.
Blu-Ray Rating: 3.0/5.0
We’ll get to the Blu-ray details but we should discuss the quality of the film itself. Unlike a lot of critic friends, I can see the charm of “The Blind Side”. It’s an old-fashioned crowd-pleaser that allows people to feel good about their fellow man. Yes, there may be difficult sections of the country, but we can all sleep better at night knowing there are people like Leigh Anne Tuohy...

With Oscar season not far behind us and the 2009 Us release date of The Blind Side all but a distant memory, UK audiences can finally get up to speed and see what all the fuss has been about! Best Actress Oscar winner Sandra Bullock knocked out rivals Meryl Streep, Helen Mirren, Carey Mulligan and Gabourey Sidibe to be crowned Best Actress in a Leading Role.
Without a doubt Bullock deserved this win and fans of feel-good Sports movies will not be disappointed with her portrayal of the charming, sassy, inspirational, bolshy and at times vulnerable white, upper-class middle-aged mum. Her performance and stunning transformation is nothing short of perfection. Some might say this is Bullock’s “Erin Brockovich” and you’ll soon see why. Far removed from her ‘Rom-Com’ days of “Speed” and “Miss Congeniality”, Bullock’s depiction of the real Leigh Anne Tuohy is hard-hitting, fiercely charming, savvy and most importantly very real.

Below you will find exactly what my votes were for the 15th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards on VH1 this Friday night. I’m a member of the Bfca, and therefore an actual, honest to god, voting member for the awards. I have 1/235th of a voice in exactly what wins. This is simply over-analyzing (a rant) the numbers of how I exactly voted. Again, this is how I voted, not the final results of the show, which won’t be known until Friday.

This Friday, the stars will gather to celebrate the best of last year at the 15th Annual Critics' Choice Awards. The MTV blog properties will be covering it, starting with a red carpet live blog from 8:30pm to 9pm Est over on Hollywood Crush. I'll be following that immediately afterwards with live blog coverage of the show here on MTV Movies Blog. We'll even have a fancy embedded player, streaming a feed directly from the show's backstage festivities onto your computer screen. It's going to be magical.
Then, on Sunday, we'll be back with more awards show coverage when the Golden Globe Awards airs. Look for a lengthier red carpet live blog, between 7pm and 9pm Est, on Hollywood Crush. Then, just like Friday, you'll want to head over to MTV Movies Blog for ongoing live blog coverage of the show as it happens. For a list of Golden Globes nominees,...

The Oscars are a secret. You never see the ballot of Meryl Streep, George Clooney or James Cameron come awards time. I’m not a fan of that. I know they don’t want to admit they have favorites, but I do. I vote for the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards as a member of the Bfca (Broadcast Film Critics Association). My ballot is below, and I think all critics should show what they consider the best, whether they vote in the Ofcs (Online Film Critics Society) or Cfca (Chicago Film Critics Society). The 15th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards airs on VH1 on Friday night.

The title of this post is indefensible, exclamatory (!) and puerile. But these movies piss me off and if they can be super obnoxious, so can I. Now, in truth, I probably never see the absolute "worst" of the movies that play in theaters since I can pick and choose my own film menu. My New Year's Resolution is to be more constructive when I criticize (I'm not giving up criticism. That's mother's milk). I'd also like to be more positive in 2010.
Thus, I retract the titular command: No negatives of the following movies and performances should be incinerated ... instead let them live on as cautionary tales to actors and filmmakers. People are watching. Try harder.
Worst Supporting Actor
I've already expressed my concerned about the "too much!" of Stanley Tucci's continually nominated performance in The Lovely Bones. I don't know what the hell Richard Gere was doing in Amelia,...

I am shocked to report that my new membership did not singlehandedly or significantly increase their taste levels, he said sarcastically. A few of the following nominations are hard to justify qualitatively speaking but you can't always get what you want. Again Oscar punditry combined with 'I just unwrapped this gift' excitement seem to have replaced careful consideration of what the year had to offer. But then it does appear as if only about 15 movies truly existed this year. In fact six movies Inglourious Basterds, Nine, Avatar, Up in the Air, The Hurt Locker, Precious and The Lovely Bones account for 48% of all the nominations. Crazy.
Am I just grumpy because they think The Lovely Bones (6 nominations) is better looking and The Blind Side (2 nominations) better acted than the exquisite Bright Star (1 nomination only)? I find those two judgment calls totally unsupportable. The abundant nominations for the garish and messy...

The Broadcast Film Critics Association likes to think of themselves as the most significant awards predicting the Oscar nominees and winners. Considering they open their categories to six nominees when need be it makes for very few surprises with any of them. So of course their noms will closely mirror the Oscars, it also makes for quite the predictable group of awards. As a matter of fact I don't think you will be surprised by a single nominee below as their selections seem more like an Oscar prediction table than an actual group trying to award what they feel are the best in the business. This may very well be what they believe the best in the business to be, but if your only value is to be an early Oscars preview what's the point?

The World War II tale "Inglourious Basterds" and the Rome-set musical "Nine," both releases from the Weinstein Co., led the list of nominees for the Broadcast Film Critics Assn.'s 15th annual Critics' Choice Movie Awards, announced early Monday, with ten nominations each.
The 3-D sci-fi film "Avatar" followed close behind with nine noms, while "The Hurt Locker" and "Up in the Air" received eight nominations each.
The awards, which will be handed out on Jan. 15 at ceremonies broadcast from the Hollywood Palladium by Vh-1, expanded this year from 17 to 25 categories, adding seven technical categories and separating its screenplay category into original and adapted slots.

Though The Blind Side may be about an underdog, it's more a family drama than a sports film. Football may course through the veins of the movie from The Rookie director John Lee Hancock, but at its heart, The Blind Side is a story about overcoming adversity and denying defeat outside the boundaries of the football field. It doesn't add anything new to the sports drama playbook, but this film from director John Lee Hancock is surprisingly effective and affecting.
Based on a true story — and Michael Lewis's nonfiction book "The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game" — the film stars Sandra Bullock as Leigh Anne Touhy, an upper-class Memphis mother who takes in struggling young teen Michael Oher (Quinton Aaron). Leigh Anne is steel in high heels; she's a Southern woman who steamrolls people around her, but she does it all with politeness and genuine concern for their well-being. When...

The Blind Side may be about a professional football player, but this isn't a football movie. It's so much more and thankfully, the accounts of Michael Oher are properly depicted in this eye-opening story. His story didn't need any Hollywood exaggerations, and every-now-and-then writer/director John Lee Hancock decided to just stick to the already dramatic story for the full 120 minutes.
We begin with meeting Michael Oher (Quinton Aaron) at the age of 17 in Memphis. He is brought over to a private Christian academy by a friend's father, who's couch he sleeps on, in hopes of getting the football coach to meet him. Instantly the coach (Ray McKinnon) pulls some strings with the strict board at the school to get Michael enrolled. Before Michael can step foot on the field, he needs to get his grades up to be eligible. As Michael tackles school life,...

The Blind Side
Directed by: John Lee Hancock
Cast: Sandra Bullock, Quinton Aaron, Tim McGraw, Kathy Bates
Running Time: 2 hr 6 mins
Rating: PG-13
Release Date: November 20, 2009
Plot: Based on Michael Lewis’ book, “The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game,” this is the true story about an extra-large, struggling teenager (Aaron) taken in by a do-gooder (Bullock) who hopes to turn his life around.
Who’S It For? It’s not a sports movie. It’s not a football movie. This is a family drama about the difficulties in raising children and helping those less fortunate. Football plays a role eventually, but not as much as everything else.
Expectations: For me, the preview looked like it was a good story about a young man who didn’t fit in, and Bullock threw herself into the mix. It did not look promising, almost like I couldn’t enjoy this without worshiping her new Southern accent.

The Blind Side is not a football movie. The Blind Side is a movie about what it means to be a family. It’s a about how families don’t always fit into nice, neat little molds and that a family can consist of any number of arrangements. It just so happens those arrangements can include a football team as well as an unlikely family that takes another human being into their care, regardless of social taboo. This is the story of Michael Oher.
Michael Oher, played by Quinton Aaron (Be Kind Rewind), is a man of few words, so I will begin by using a single word to describe The Blind Side… inspiring. The Blind Side is based on a true story, directed by John Lee Hancock (The Rookie, The Alamo) who also adapted the story for the screen from Michael Lewis’ book “The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game.

In preparing to write this review I struggled with how I wanted to approach the movie and the review. For those of you that know me, I am a Baltimore native and a first-generation fan of the Baltimore Ravens. When the Ravens drafted Michael Oher in the recent 2009 NFL Draft it was all over Espn and the NFL Network that a movie about his extraordinary young life was being filmed. From April till now I lobbied every month to be able to review this movie. When the trailer came out in September I started lobbying even harder. Eventually I was given the golden ticket to see the early screening. Why was this movie, out of all the other movies I have seen and will see, so big for me? Part of it was the civic pride of seeing one of my guys, a Baltimore Raven, have a story about him on the big screen.

Film review: The Blind Side solid film that pulls on heartstrings
The Blind Side Warner Bros. Pictures The Blind Side is an inspiring true story of beating the odds. It’s not Oscar material, but it is a solid film. You can’t argue with truth, and the movie proves a person doesn’t have to be dead or old to have a film made about his or her life that pulls on the heartstrings of the audience and leaves them asking the question: What am I doing to change someone’s life for the better? If you plan on watching the film because of the sports aspect, you will be sadly disappointed. It doesn’t follow the same vein as Remember the Titans or Miracle. The film isn’t about a team; it’s about an individual realizing his potential thanks to loving hands reaching out for him. You don’t have to know anything about (American) football to understand...

Wearing a floor-length pastel striped evening gown, Sandra Bullock walked the red carpet in New Orleans Thursday for a special premiere of her latest film, "The Blind Side."Besides promoting the sports drama, which opens in theaters nationwide on Friday, the event also served as a fundraiser for a New Orleans high school flooded by Hurricane Katrina.Since the 2005 storm, Bullock has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to Warren Easton High School, one of the city's oldest public schools, which took on 10 feet of water when the levee protection system broke during Katrina. The donations have been used for renovations, scholarships, new band uniforms and a new health clinic."We're investing in a lot of things that we think need preserving," said Bullock, who recently bought a mansion in New Orleans' historic Garden District. "I'm a great supporter of New Orleans and its architecture.

From the trailers and TV spots, it is easy to assume John Lee Hancock’s latest is yet another tale of well-off white rescuing broken black. Given Hollywood’s track record of thinly-veiled political pieces, it’s obvious where the cynicism comes from. Luckily, The Blind Side is color blind and based on a true story.
Hancock deftly sidesteps the drive to tell a typical “white guilt” story where Caucasian saves African-American and other condescending racial stereotypes. It also avoids a telegraphed playbook of allegorical material and deeper sociological meaning for a lighter, feel-good tone with mainstream, family-friendly appeal for the holidays.
Aside from any assumptions, the film is heartwarming as advertised, a dramatization of how the upper-class Tuohy family took in “Big Mike” Oher off the streets, gave him a home and an education, and introduced him to his career as a left tackle. Fair warning, this is not a pure sports movie,...

Sandra Bullock gathered her on- and off-screen families together in NYC last night for a screening of The Blind Side. Her husband Jesse James was out showing his support for both Sandra's film and her return to dark hair. Tim McGraw plays Sandra's better half in the movie, and he posed for photos with his own wife Faith Hill. Many of you didn't seem too excited about seeing the screen adaptation of Michael Lewis's novel, but Buzz will be ready with tissues when it hits theaters on Friday.
